Aldon may smash the Sack record and they will have to give it to him but he is definitely the product of being on a great D.

@bgoldberg @joemcmackin ultimately if you don't like someone, you don't hire them. But to flat out call anyone a "loser" because they can't recall anything they learned in college makes you look like an arrogant douche. But then again being an arrogant douche usually makes for good blogging
1 year, 9 months ago on Losers exist. Don’t hire them
Disagree with you about the college questions. Many 18 year olds have no idea what they want to do and what they want to study in college. Most that don't know what they want to do probably don't want to go and want to drop out but their parents will kill them. I do agree with the other 3 questions though. Now if the person you interviewed had bad answers for all those questions then not hiring him makes sense.
I think you have a pretty good point. I don't pay much attention to the nba during football season but the storylines have mainly been about like you said, New York teams and harden. You could also throw the lakers in as well. Lebron just needs one of those 50 pt games for every to start talking about him again.

They are definitely going to need to do some work on the offensive line in the off season.

I think 20 attempts makes sense. I would wonder if there are qbs out there that had similar situations though that would also be there if it was 15 attempts

It's totally unbelievable what dickey did this year. I am an sf giants fan and dickey still might be my favorite major leaguer. I love guys who figure out ways to use 100% of their ability to be successful.

Wow, good point. The lacrosse people must be up in arms especially since they are the revenue generator. I haven't looked into it but this must be happening with a lot of the small sports and all the conference moves.

Pretty interesting when you compare this situation out west where the clippers are looking much better than the lakers. La and New York are bandwagon cities so it would be interesting to see both the clippers and the nets dominating their foes for once.
1 year, 9 months ago on Whose the Best Team in New York?
Its easy to say RG3 is better right now but if you look at Cam's numbers up until this point in his rookie they are just as good as RG3. It will be interesting what happens to RG3 once teams get a year of film to study his tendencies and work at defending him better because the extra year of experience has helped defenses a lot more than Cam Newton
1 year, 9 months ago on Cam vs. RG3
You are pretty much spot on. Plain old bad coaching is killing this team of course in combination with Cam Newton coming back to reality and being a below average QB

One other thought is that Hurricane Sandy totally threw this team off especially Eli as he had to live in a hotel for a while. Maybe that killed his routine.
1 year, 9 months ago on The ebbs and flows of an NFL season
Some thoughts that come to mind is that Coughlin is only a big game coach and his style only works well when his teams backs are against the wall. I am also wondering if Eli is hiding an injury. The guy hasn't had 3 games in a row without a TD pass since his rookie season.
If big ben wants to have a long career, he will need to change his ways an study the way Peyton Manning takes hits and gets rid of the ball quickly. It's the only way a QB can last night. Defensive Lineman and Linebackers are getting bigger and stonger every year.

"we moved from the 27th payroll to the 29th payroll in the league…Yipeee!!!" Love that line. Classic. You could say movie night was the turning point in the season. That was a great read!

Its probably tough for these guys to learn how to hit differently but not based on history they just need to make the responsible decision and lead with the shoulder for their own sake.

Good point regarding the drops and the already high completion percentage. It could be much higher and some of those drops have probably cost the redskins losses.

It amazes me everyday that their search has never improved. Improving search would be by far the single easiest way for them to increase revenue per user. The even crazier thing they did is releasing sponsored search before they got the user experience right. There should be no ads in search until they get the UI right and a large majority of their users are using it.

I just don't understand where you are going to find a group of tech investors that won't see a payoff from their investment for a long time. How long is this new group of people going to have to hold there investment to get a payoff? 15-20 years? The model right now is invest in as many companies as possible with as little money as possible. I don't see investors locking up $50 billion worth of capital in Facebook on a different market with no one to sell it to anytime soon. In 15-20 years facebook could not exist. That is a big reason why their stock is going down. There is a huge risk in investing in a company that has only been around for 8 years and can be potentially erased by something better that comes along.

These are good reasons to just eliminate territories completely which we have done at my company. If a sales person hasn't called on an account for 6 months that means that account is open and fair game. For us it makes prospecting much easier as finding new leads is pretty research intensive and now 1 out of 2 accounts I find, I can reach out to instead of 1 out of 10. It is also easy for us to say we should be calling on an account where we have some sort of of relationship.

@gcj @pemullen "whereby prospect needs are carefully and painstakingly researched, and your 'pitch is tailored to those needs in a manner that matches the capabilities of your solution to the needs of the prospect" That sounds right out of 2000 sales books. Needs are important but selling today in complex environments is more about challenging execs and showing them something they need that they didn't realize and teaching them something new. It shows your intelligence in their space and will give you an edge over the competition because all the competition does is address your current needs. I agree that all meetings are not pitches but everything that comes out of your mouth is a reflection of you and your company and even if you are in a discovery meeting and you don't ask the right questions you are done.
Listening is important but high performers challenge with new ideas and data.
2 years, 1 month ago on Missed Opportunity in the Golden Age of Sales
@gcj @EJ The good thing about sales is a certain skill set can be taught. Most companies don't do a very good job of training and empowering their employees with proper ideas and data to send out to their prospects. This is why you find sales teams with only a few high performers and the rest are struggling. The high performers understand it but their managers and VPs don't. Of course low activity sales people are always going to struggle but its pretty easy to spot low activity sales people.
Great post Chris. Really like the late night email theory especially for high level executives. It totally makes sense why it works. I love "be brief and realize you'll get to pitch tomorrow" I think sometimes as a salesperson you try not to bother your prospect too much but as long as you feel you are sending them insights that may help them, it is probably OK.
@rubberpoultry Whatever competition he creates, he will get back in 10 fold by having his company featured on Pando
Here is a way to break into sports. It won't be easy but it will work. Go find 20 people who want to buy season tickets for the team you want to work for. Write down their names and addresses. Hunt down the director of sales for that team. Email him and say you have 20 season ticket orders waiting and you want 10 minutes of his time. Put together a sales presentation on how you would sell tickets for that team to a large company. Give the presentation and present the orders. He/she will have no choice but to hire you. This will obviously only work for teams that don't sell out.
