#1. I had a bad feeling about the final result of this game the second they showed Bettman's ugly mug in the seats. #2. Outside of everything else, not taking advantage of that 5 min PP cost us the game. #3. Anyone else notice that nearly every time Fillpula carried the puck into the offensive zone, he went up the sideboards, failed to skate/muscle (hahaha right) his way through the D, and ended up reversing back up the boards in the exact same spot? Most ineffective. #4. Corry Perry is a giant piece of shit, and I'm pretty sure even his own mother would agree with me. #5. We've proved over and over again in this series that we can elevate our game and dictate the pace, it's time to leave it all out on the ice for these last two games. LGRW!

@moorecha GIFS are spectacular IMO, the best part of the replay over and over and over. I could watch these all day.

Ditto on everything said above about Selanne. Worst part was the punch to the back of DeKeyser's head after he laid a clean check on him. Wow, talk about a spoiled little brat. He apparently thinks that because he's an old man with impressive career stats that young kids like DeKeyser have no right to play him physical, but his whiny, arrogant 'can't let go of that Jofa helmet' ass is dead wrong. Hope to see continued physicality in general, but especially a big hit on Temmu.

I said the exact same thing about Franzen last night during that lazy play. The sad part is that being a net-front presence is only a small part of what we know Franzen can do and what we expect out of him, yet he can't even be bothered to provide that. Other than the nice set-up to White and what looked to be a legitimate burst of sustained effort in the latter stages of the Columbo game, Mule's looked the same as he did last year: like he's Babcock's bratty, wayward teenage son whose only at these games because his Dad is making him.

2 years, 3 months ago on Wings Should Offer Weber A Contract Like Noone's Ever Seen: $12M+ | July
an oxymoron though, because real thugs can't be managed
@xDaNGLeSx13x @austikyl @moorecha Sorry, let me re-phrase. They DID eat generic bran-flakes until they signed those hefty contracts. Now they can afford the name brand sh-t.
You know who else tried to do whatever it took to win? Nixon. F---king Nixon. Red Wings fans, and this blog in particular, have always taken pride in the class of our organization, and it dismays me to see the true colors of some Wings fans coming out this off-season. Be it the hissy fit that so many threw when Parise and Suter didn't sign, the senseless trashing of a great hockey market like Minnesota (again, on this blog) or the short-sighted questioning of Ken Holland and Mike Babcock: it all points to a devaluing of the characteristics of the Winged-Wheel we're all supposed to cherish.
Doing whatever it takes to win means putting together a team of individuals that have chemistry, skill, dedication, loyalty, and great work ethic. It DOES NOT mean rampantly signing the latest and greatest overpaid and over-hyped free agent available, or using thug management tactics to put ourselves in better position. Anything it takes huh? Perhaps Kenny should get back on Redbird 1, fly to Minnesota, and poison Zach and Ryan's bran flakes, because IF WE CAN'T HAVE THEM, THEN NO ONE CAN!!
The next person I see writing trashy, brainless, bandwagoneer comments like many I've seen this summer can have a Blackhakw's jersey on me, provided you turn in your Winged Wheel first.
I just don't see KH trying this. IMO it's a classless move. And what if he does sign for one year at some ridiculous amount like 12 mil? How do you think that would make a guy like Hank, due to make about 5 million less dollars than that this upcoming year, feel, especially considering the fact that Weber was public enemy number one for the Wings this past spring? Between their lack of offense and their repeated inability to take their franchise to the next level, Nashville seems fully capable of sinking their own ship without any low blows from us. To sign a guy like Weber for that much cash sends the wrong message to the locker room and would serve as a gesture of disrespect to the real cornerstone players of our franchise.
@magnum9 Risk taking.......sure. Such as, he takes the risk of not covering his man in hopes that the puck will miraculously not end up in the back of his net. I grant you that maybe a full camp with the Wings will help him step his game up, but I wasn't impressed in his first go-around, and I was downright angry every time he was on the ice during his second.
2 years, 3 months ago on The Price Is Right: Quincey Edition | July
@Reddy Quincy is a liability with and without the puck, so I would say it helps greatly. Find a free agent veteran to plug the hole that Quincy would leave for a year and look towards next off-season for an upgrade.
Wow. Please force this clown off the squad. It was a mistake to give him a second chance with the Organ-I-zation and it would be a mistake to give him a spot in the d rotation next season. Brendan Smith shows great promise and needs game experience to develop into an NHL talent.
@ThroatShot Yeah, I understand our acquisition of Quincy meant he would be phased into that 2nd unit spot, but him being out with the groin meant Hudler was back at the point, and for me it was a bit of a painful reminder of how much our PP has suffered this season with a forward on the point, as it has been with Happy for a good chunk of the season. I hope Quincy can step it up and be smart on the points out there. Our D, and especially White as I said before, seem indecisive and panicky handling the puck on the PP (the exception of course being Lidstrom and Kronwall most of the time). They force bad shots at the net that lead to quick clears for the opposition. I love everything about Ian White except for his point play.
2 years, 8 months ago on Red Wings vs Blue Jackets Recap 2.28.2012 | February
This is nowhere near the cause of the lackluster PP, but does anyone else shake their head in disbelief at the fact that Hudler is still manning the point on the second unit? I have NEVER been a fan of teams doing this, it seems more prevalent in the Leastern Conference with the like of Ovechkin and Stamkos camping out around the circles, but that has never been and should never be the way the Red Wing powerplay operates. Start working Quincy in when he comes back for sure, b/c we need someone who can make good decisions, take effective, 2nd chance creating shots, and not expose them selves to an odd-man situation. This someone is not Hudler. I also love every part of Ian White's game except his point play in the offensive zone, especially on the powerplay. I feel that he takes bad shots, and doesn't wait for the rest of the guys to get in position before he fires one off, and when he does, it's almost always blocked going the other way or gets quickly cleared off the rebound. The PP is where we miss Rafalski the most.
In unrelated news, Johnny Toes (yes I said Toes) is injured and will be sitting out this weekends festivities in Ottawa. How much do you want to bet that Gary & Co will not give him a one game suspension like they did to TPH and Pavel in 09? You guys should do a post on this and see how much Hawk/Bettman hate we can get going, lol.
2 years, 9 months ago on Parise Watch Update | January
Oh man, the look on Pavel's face during that interview....pure confusion. I love it that every time Keats sits down with him, he asks him these complicated questions containing large words and english phrases that probabaly get lost in translation. When Keats asked him if he liked feeding his teammates, Pavel was probably thinking in his head, "Shiny bald man has talking crazy things! I have never over to my home my teammates for eating." Or something like that.
2 years, 9 months ago on Sabres vs Red Wings Recap 1.16.2012 | January
@thebiglachovsky I'm with you all the way man. Ever since the league doled out those pathetic 1 game suspensions to Pav and TPH for missing the 09 ASG I have been in favor of the Wings boycotting the stupid thing every year. Yes, the recognition is nice and all, but anyone who knows anything about hockey knows that players like Howard, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Lidstrom are world-class, so it's not necessary for Gary's dog and pony show to validate that fact.
Same with the Lions and Stafford getting passed up on the Pro-Bowl when he becomes only the 4th QB in NFL history to throw for over 5000 yards in a season. Who cares? I'm all for Detroit sports teams saying "to hell with the games, we'll just worry about the ones that count, thank you."

We can't keep ignoring the fact that the real question here is not why he's allowed to announce Hawks games on NBC, but rather why anyone ever gave him a gig as a colorman in the first place. People, the man's catch-phrase is "active stick," a fancy little term he uses to bestow meaningless praise upon players who (GASP!) use their sticks to make a play. If he ever becomes too much, hit mute and substitute Ken and Paul, or go ahead....take a drink every time he takes that beautiful piece of diction out for a spin. Chances are you'll quickly realize that the three-ring shit-circus that is the NBC broadcast team is far too pathetic of an entity to waste your hatred on. Save it instead for the team we just downed in OT on their home ice, that team that has dropped four straight, the team that will soon be eating our dust in the central division standings. As for "Edzo" and his boys, they may be babbling, biased idiots but they don't have a hand in the outcome of the game, while the guys in the Winged Wheel always do. NBC deserves nothing but our laughter. LGRW

"I want his players Ref! Make Mike give me his players! It's not fair!"
2 years, 9 months ago on Red Wings vs Amateurs Recap 1.8.2012 | January
This is a simple issue. If Cole gets himself lower and drives into Abby's chest, then it's a perfectly legal hit. However, his shoulder makes direct and initial contact with the head which is illegal and exactly what the league need to exorcise from the game. Abby definitely should have been skating with his head up, and it is not, in most cases, a dirty play to put a hit on a guy who doesn't see it coming. However, it is the responsibility of the player delivering the check to avoid the opposing player's head, be it up OR down.
Bottom line: shoulder pads need to get ALOT smaller and players need to be re-trained on how to properly deliver body checks with the emphasis on the BODY and not on the head.

Nice recap. You did well to stay away from letting the non-call overshadow the fact that the Wings did not have a crisp, controlled-looking shift where the passes were connecting until the "3rd" line's barrage that resulted in another Miller-Time tip in. I was actually surprised to see us leading the shot total after two periods. Nonetheless the non-call did suck out all the confidence Detroit gleaned from the late second period tally. I thought we controlled play in the 3rd, especially late, but we just never seemed to be able to get a solid look set up to slip one by LOOOOOOUUU who, while managing to avoid letting a weak one slip by, didn't have to make any spectacular saves. I'll give him the one on Helm, but it just seemed like the boys were having trouble setting it up in the offensive zone all night long. The no-call was complete BS. If I'm the ref I probably get Howard for roughing or what have you, but I match it with a goaltender interference minor for Hansen. That's the only call that makes sense there. I guess Kronwall's position at impact can be debated, but I'm with Ken Daniels, who said the replay shows his left skate still on the ice at impact, with his entire frame rising up a few inches immediate;y after contact. A great hit that Burrows, like so many other players in the new NHL do in response to a clean hit that sits them down, reacted poorly and shamefully to. As Mickey says, "You kids out there you gotta keep your head up on the ice!" Or something like that.
