@OKC035 I don't hate that...

Dante Cunningham is not horrific... could do a job starting at SF and playing 15 mins a night. Let Reggie stay with the second unit.

@RRRWHOAAAA for atleast a few weeks we'll have 11 active players:

PGs Russ, Reggie, Telfair

C: Adams, Perk

PF: Ibaka, Collison, Thomas

Wings: Lamb, PJ3, Roberson

@tygablood To be competitive Reggie is going to have to start and him and Russ are going to have play around 40 mins a night....

A bench of Lamb, Jones, Collision, Perk and Telfair is not too hot

@propsizzle @McLasch @Dominator Right - I was just saying he's the only FA avaialable worth signing. And if we don't get him is it worth exploring someone on a 10 day contract.

Hell - Eric Maynor is available.

Does signing someone to a couple of 10 day contracts make sense going into the season? I believe you can sign someone on 3 consecutive 10 day contracts without making any long term commitment.

I'd like to see them get Ray Allen, but Brooks would overplay him, but it would be nice to have an additional practice body and insurance policy.

@_justin @Dominator @Julius F Wrek They were primarily basing it on the blow out last night in NO I believe.

They acknowledged that Westbrook and Perkins were out - but not sure if they checked beyond that.

@TaoMaas @Dominator If he's focusing on offense like he will be the first 6-8 weeks I think his rebounds (and probably fouls) will go down a little.

With Durant back he'll concentrate a lot more on defensive assignments.

@Julius F Wrek @Dominator Basically that they don't see how the Thunder can compete without Durant.

They said Jones and Lambs have shown flashes but can't fill the void (true), said Adams is an unknown and not ready for NBA minutes (bit crazy), Ibaka isn't a scorer (technically true - but certainly capable) and made no mention of Reggie or Morrow or Mcgrady etc

@okcjim @Dominator When talking about the Thunder you need to take into account Brooks.

There is a big difference to what they should do and what they will do.

The same with roster additions... from the outside.... signing a veteran like Butler or Ray Allen  or Fisher sounds great (play them minimal minutes situationally and help coach up the young guys). However, in reality, they're overplayed to the detriment of the team and freeze young guys out of the rotation.

@okcjim Should be - of course!

@L0rv @Joo_ivey @Dominator Thunder win totals the last 4 seasons:

55, 47 (translates to 64 wins in an 82 game season), 60 and 59.

With a healthy westbrook to start the season, they should make it to 58.

So the over/under on win totals are out:

A few things jump out at me:Thunder and Spurs (57.5 and 56.5) should get over that total pretty easily. Mavericks (49.5) seem low. Heat (43.5) seem low...
Cavs look be a little high (58.5), as do the Rockets (49.5)

If so, what would his role be? Would Brooks overplay him? (Stupid question - of course he would).

But assuming, he could come in and play 15-20 minutes a night he could be great. I would probably start him at the 2 actually.

@Butterfingers I like the New Orleans roster if they can stay healthy...

Holiday, Gordon, Asik, Davis and Evans is a quality starting 5.

They have two good shooters coming off the bench in Fredette and Anderson...

Probably lacking a bit in wing defensive, but Asik and Davis are quality bigs and can match up with anyone in the NBA down low.

Their biggest question mark will be injuries without a doubt... but they have the quality to make a push

@L0rv @FallenOSIRIS @Butterfingers My guess is probably:

I do think Phoenix and New Orleans are in with a shout.

Is it wow crazy crazy to stipulate that the Houston Rockets may miss out on the playoffs this year?

I would say the following teams are ahead of them no matter what:

Thunder, Spurs and Clippers - so that means a high of 4.

I think the following teams are probably ahead of them:

Memphis, Dallas, Golden State - so that means a likely high of 7

The following teams will probably be fighting for a playoff spot and could be just as good or better than Houston based on numerous factor:

New Orleans, Portland, Phoenix

In conclusion... I think Houston's ceiling is 4... they're likely to finish somewhere between 4-7 but could easily fall to 9th or lower....

@Butterfingers Don't forget their starting center... Varejao... he offers next to no rim protection... all he can do is take charges and defend the pick and roll

@DanielLawler Love is not a top 5 player.... In no particular order the following players are ahead of him: Lebron, Durant, Westbrook, Paul, D Rose, Parker, Howard...

Love is a top 10... border line top 8 players... he's completely unproven (as is Irving) in playoffs and big games.

@L0rv @Dominator @Butterfingers Can Waiters defend? As it is they have average at best defenders in Irving, Love, Varejao with an elite defender in Lebron.

So the Cavs starting 5:

PG Irving, SG Waiters, C Varejao, PF Love, SF James

Bench Rotation: Haywood, Miller, Thompson, James Jones (some other scrubs)

Pretty scary offensively, they do seem pretty light at back-up PG and Center rotation (particularly considering Irving and Varejao injury history).

It looks like they're going to give up a lot of points though. Teams with good bigs (Noah and Gasol / David West and Hibbert  /  Gortat and Nene) could really exploit them

Everyone seems to be overlooking the Cavs complete lack of rim protection...

Their centers: Varejao (extremely injury prone... who can pass well, an excellent pick and roll player, takes a bunch of charges but can't guard the rim at all). Haywood (35 years old...)

Love can't defend,  Irving is a pretty bad defender.... seems like there are some considerable weakness that teams should be able to exploit

I'm a little disappointed. He would be a big upgrade over Hash and offer another dynamic offensively.

2 months, 3 weeks ago on Pleiss to sign with FCB, NBA move possible next year

The biggest roster question going into the season is what to do with the 15th spot...

Keep it open

Pick up option on Hash

Sign 2nd round PG Semaj Christon

Sign FA

In my opinion resigning Hash has little to no value (but is most likely unfortunately).

Keeping it open is smart to allow flexibility

Signing Semaj has the most upside potential

Signing a FA is good in theory if we can get the right one.. but Brooks will probably overplay if he's a veteran so it may be detrimental to Lamb etc getting minutes.

I do see a (small) possibility of trading Perk to a team who are well under the salary cap or even involving him in a 3 team trade (Maybe in the Cavs/Minnesota trade - we could take K-Mart back).
