Is there any chance of Ray Allen signing with the Thunder?

If so, what would his role be? Would Brooks overplay him? (Stupid question - of course he would).

But assuming, he could come in and play 15-20 minutes a night he could be great. I would probably start him at the 2 actually.

@Butterfingers I like the New Orleans roster if they can stay healthy...

Holiday, Gordon, Asik, Davis and Evans is a quality starting 5.

They have two good shooters coming off the bench in Fredette and Anderson...

Probably lacking a bit in wing defensive, but Asik and Davis are quality bigs and can match up with anyone in the NBA down low.

Their biggest question mark will be injuries without a doubt... but they have the quality to make a push

@L0rv @FallenOSIRIS @Butterfingers My guess is probably:

1. Thunder, 2. Spurs, 3. Clips, 4. Golden State, 5. Dallas, 6. Memphis, 7. Houston, 8. Portland

I do think Phoenix and New Orleans are in with a shout.

Is it wow crazy crazy to stipulate that the Houston Rockets may miss out on the playoffs this year?

I would say the following teams are ahead of them no matter what:

Thunder, Spurs and Clippers - so that means a high of 4.

I think the following teams are probably ahead of them:

Memphis, Dallas, Golden State - so that means a likely high of 7

The following teams will probably be fighting for a playoff spot and could be just as good or better than Houston based on numerous factor:

New Orleans, Portland, Phoenix

In conclusion... I think Houston's ceiling is 4... they're likely to finish somewhere between 4-7 but could easily fall to 9th or lower....

@areayewhy @Dominator @Butterfingers Similar on the defensive end yes...he's not a bad defender by any means. He's very active....just can' t protect the rim. He runs the floor better than Collision and scores more..

@Butterfingers Don't forget their starting center... Varejao... he offers next to no rim protection... all he can do is take charges and defend the pick and roll

@L0rv @Dominator @Butterfingers I'm not sure why they're even being compared to the Clippers... Clippers were an average defense who ended up with the 3rd best record in the West and who lost in the 2nd round

Love is a top 10... border line top 8 players... he's completely unproven (as is Irving) in playoffs and big games.

@L0rv @Dominator @Butterfingers Can Waiters defend? As it is they have average at best defenders in Irving, Love, Varejao with an elite defender in Lebron.

So the Cavs starting 5:

PG Irving, SG Waiters, C Varejao, PF Love, SF James

Bench Rotation: Haywood, Miller, Thompson, James Jones (some other scrubs)

Pretty scary offensively, they do seem pretty light at back-up PG and Center rotation (particularly considering Irving and Varejao injury history).

It looks like they're going to give up a lot of points though. Teams with good bigs (Noah and Gasol / David West and Hibbert  /  Gortat and Nene) could really exploit them

Everyone seems to be overlooking the Cavs complete lack of rim protection...

Their centers: Varejao (extremely injury prone... who can pass well, an excellent pick and roll player, takes a bunch of charges but can't guard the rim at all). Haywood (35 years old...)

Love can't defend,  Irving is a pretty bad defender.... seems like there are some considerable weakness that teams should be able to exploit

I'm a little disappointed. He would be a big upgrade over Hash and offer another dynamic offensively.

The biggest roster question going into the season is what to do with the 15th spot...

Keep it open

Pick up option on Hash

Sign 2nd round PG Semaj Christon

Sign FA

In my opinion resigning Hash has little to no value (but is most likely unfortunately).

Keeping it open is smart to allow flexibility

Signing Semaj has the most upside potential

Signing a FA is good in theory if we can get the right one.. but Brooks will probably overplay if he's a veteran so it may be detrimental to Lamb etc getting minutes.

I do see a (small) possibility of trading Perk to a team who are well under the salary cap or even involving him in a 3 team trade (Maybe in the Cavs/Minnesota trade - we could take K-Mart back).

@JordanEraJazz @Dominator a second round pick and future first is worth it... the chances of KD leaving are greater if the team doesn't get better around him. I'm not saying he will leave or he's even likely to leave. But the front office have to show him they're willing to do what's necessary to improve the roster to give them the best chance resign KD.

@JordanEraJazz @Dominator Interesting.... I've just been reading up on some trade rules:

  • Teams below the salary cap may trade without regard to salary, as long as they don't end up more than $100,000 above the cap following a trade.
  • Teams above the cap (or teams below the cap but would end up more than $100,000 over the cap following a trade) cannot acquire more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary they trade away. Under the 2011 CBA, teams that remain below the luxury tax threshold even after the trade can acquire the lesser of 150% plus $100,000, or 100% plus $5 million, of the salary they trade away.[6] There is no lower limit—teams may divest themselves of as much salary as they wish (or can convince another team to take on) in a trade.
  • If teams acquire a player in a trade, they are allowed to trade that player straight-up for another individual player immediately. However, if teams wish to package that player with another and make a trade, they must wait 60 days before doing so.

How to improve the title chances and improve the roster this season:

1. Roster changes:

  • Sign Tibor Pleiss (3 years 10 mil sounds about right)
  • Sign Shawn Marion to a 1 yr deal
  • Don't resign Thabeet
  • Trade Perk..... On a side note (how the hell did the Lin to Lakers trade work from a financial perspective? Surely there is a 3 team trade we could get in on to offload Perk? If not, there are a handful of bad teams next year with minimal salary commitments who would take Perk for a few future assets.

"The Los Angeles Lakers have made a trade with the Houston Rockets, acquiring guard Jeremy Lin as well as a future first round draft pick and a second round draft pick in 2015 (acquired by Houston in an earlier deal with the L.A. Clippers) in exchange for the rights to Sergei Lishchuk, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak." ......... How do the salaries match up here??

2. Keep 14 players on the roster.... allow flexibility going into the season to add a piece as necessary

3. Make the playoffs the priority. Lower KD's and Westbrooks minutes to the 34-36 min range and make sure everyone gets 2-3 games off at the end of the season

4. Experiment a little with line-ups and rotations before Christmas. But by the All-Star break play start a "Play-off" style line-up (we know that a SG that can't shoot is not going to work in the playoffs for example).

5. Crunch Time line-up (assuming above player movements):

Russ, Reggie, Adams, Ibaka, KD

Main Rotation players (in no particular order): Plies, Collison, Marion, Morrow, Lamb (PJ3, Roberson and Mcgary would be in the rotation in the regular season but I can see them being phased out come playoff time).

@Lost Ones Only when looking at the trade retrospectively. Harden's numbers and consideration as an all-world level SG is greatly elevated AFTER the trade. In addition, the young players we acquired as a result of the trade are only just beginning to show what they're capable of....

Plus the two seasons after the trade we've been hit by injury so the question of "can the thunder get to the finals without harden?" is yet to be answered.... the year with K-Mart was statistically the best ever for the Thunder - just got derailed by Russ's injury.

Pliess is close to signing in the NBA - according to Hoopshype

So, lets assume Thibor Pleiss signs in the NBA. Do the Thunder make him an offer or would they risk losing him to another team?

Would the team benefit from not resigning Thabeet and making Pliess the 14th guy on the roster? What would be an ideal big man rotation with: Perk/Adams/Pliess/Mcgary/Ibaka/Collison ?

My biggest reservation would probably be a loss in minutes for Mcgary and Adams. In an ideal world Perk's minutes would go down to 0-5 and Pliess would get the 15-20 minutes from there
