What's with all the negative nellies putting down the writer? He's right
about one thing, they put it in print as a possibliity while the others were all looking a pie in the sky optoin without any research.
Ha, I can assure you if my struggling, but much beloved Hogs can pull of a win against Kentucky, there will be a similar scene in my living room. Summlin needs to loosen up a bti, not to say he should go all John L. though.
I've been a Hog fan my whole life and I'm 51 so I have had my share of disappointments, but I've also had some nice highs too. It's easy to be a bandwagon fan of whatever team is hot, but that's not my gig. I was born a Hog, I'll die a Hog. I'll be at the Rutgers game cheering on "my team". I do not expect instant success for a new coach, but I would agree that I expect instant hope. We patiently waited through Bobby Petrino's rebuilding, now we can wait through another one, hopefully one a bit more defensive minded.
I got news for you, people laugh at us now, but who gives a F***? I don't.
I'm not a fan of Les Miles by any stretch of the imagination, but a coach can't "control" his players. He can preach what players need to do, but ulitmately the players has to make the right decision. This happens at all schools. My MHO.
Good article.
A&M
I must be doing something wrong, I can't find any article, just the picture of the A&S soccer team. Is that (the joke) the article?
If someone is trying to deceive and cover up, they can do an anwful good job if they are smart. Jeff Long did not know BP was dating Dorrel and anyone in the Arkansas media who things they are going to find some consipiricy involving Long, well good luck. And as far as another schoool asking Long "How could Petrino have carried out a secret afair on your watch?" is just plain silly. That's why they are secret affairs until they become public, its people secretly cheating and lying. If BP's wife did not know, I surely doubt Jeff Long knew.
I do laugh a what Dodds, Wojciechowski, and the other pundits say. They would both swap jobs in a heartbeat if the conditions and money were right and could care less if it was their current employer who gave them their first break. I do feel bad for Weber State and their kids. It is what it is.
We will not suck. I'm not concerned about that at this point. I reverse the right to reverse myself is we do suck though. ha ha.
Thanks for taking the high road on this one.
I don't believe for one second that AD Long reached out to Petey. Long is not going to look for someone who just had NCAA problems. Plus the absurdity that Ark can beat $7M. KFSM probably got their inside scoop from the drunk guy at Hooters who was trying to impress the girls with his knowledge of all things Razorback. I do concur with your assessment that if we stay interim, Coach Horton makes the most sense.
I'll give AD Long a pass on this one. If someone wants to have a secret affair, they can hide it in most cases (until there is a motorcycle wreck). I suspect AD Long regrets making the exception for the hiring process to be shortened. I also suspect no one under him will get that benefit of the doubt again. He didnt' have any reason to doubt that BP was being forthright with him when he indicated he needed the job filled right away, and frankly AD Long probably gave him a professional courtesy due to how well UA was doing in football, revenue, donations, etc. Those things happen, to the best of us....we simply get burned once in a while for being too trusting.
I don't blame Mr. SEC for the article or consider John to be beating the horse, at least not on the Long angle. Besides, its a slow time of year and something has to be written about. No one would reason web sites if there weren't new articles. Now, if we get more article about Petrino stories that have the same old stuff we've read a million times, that will be beating the proverbial horse.
I agree 100% with your comment about the internet making every sensitive. I'm guilty myself and need to get better. I also agree that many readers peruse articles and make comments because of what they "thought" they saw. I'm guilty myself. I had to apologize to Sojo a few days agao when I had misinterpreted, no actually mis-read, his statement. If you recall it was the same article you did the same thing to me. Claiming I referred to "your Tennessee" when clearly I had hit the reply and commented to Sojo (who is a TN fan). We all do it, but I am trying to be more careful. I agree that most articles should just be read and move on. I'm not a high voume poster and need to become even less so. Thanks!
@sojourner OK, sorry for the error Sojo, you are correct. I was reading too fast at lunch time. (apparently like Mr. SEC was since I got chastised for something I didn't say to him) However, I stick by my statement they will never be an Iowa State and since you seem to know your stuff, maybe you should reconsider that statement. I wasn't trying to poke you in the eye pal, sorry if it came off that way.
Mr. Sec John, I wasn't adressing the article, I was responding to @sojourner???
As I Hog fan, and resident of Nebraska, I've watched Pelini over the last few years and can tell you we Arkies do not want him. He is a screamer, and an overly volatile person that he's going to do something stupid someday. We had that with Petrino, and don't need another national fiasco. Besides, he likes being in the Big 10 where is is originally from. He's really a defense coach, not a good head coach. While I am not a Husker fan per se, you are definately wrong about Nebraska. These fans are as committed to their team (support, financially, etc.) as much as the best schools in the nation. They travel better than most. Yes, they have to recruit from other states, but so does Arkansas, your Tennessee, and many other schools. They will never be an Iowa State I assure you of that. A Montana or Utah State? Sorry, but that just shows a lack of knowledge. Personally, I want Garrick McGee.
Long would never do that. An existing interim is better than that. Besides, I'm sure Payton wouldn't be interested anyway.
Please No! He is a Bobby Petrino prototype.
