This just in: ESPN names Britt McHenry the new host of First Take.

@cszczebak Well if she's just representing the "ESPN image" I think they're gonna give her a morning show to mouth off on.

@TroyCoverdale @BeBreezyMan Yes, I always wondered why they chose TBS over TNT. All things basketball aside TNT is in almost all cases ahead of TBS/TrueTV in the channel lineup. Also ESPN's family of channels are in most cases placed next to each other where TNT/TBS/TrueTV can sometimes be spread out. Now expanding on ESPN's hype machine, I think the fact that they're a 24/7 sports network is really what makes that hype machine so successful. People who will be watching the Megacast will usually tune in for other programing on ESPN and that allows for the commercials to be more effective.

Might want to change that title. I thought you were going to tell us who the announcers were for the team stream channels, and not just which team was which channel.
2 weeks, 4 days ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/your-final-four-announcing-schedule-including-teamcast-channels.html
If youtube Apple, Yahoo, Google, or Netflix do win the rights who will be apart of the broadcast team or will they partner with ESPN/Fox/CBS to produce it? I could see ESPN winning the rights and streaming the game through WatchESPN or FOX and Fox Sports Go.

@CUbsfan @stuie299 @eslrush I never expected them to change it, but just because they won't change it doesn't mean I have to like it.

So we're talking about the ghost of Jim Valvano and you can't even mention all the free throws LSU missed. *ominous echoing voice* FOR SHAME.

@eslrush I completely agree, even on the first and second day the games are too staggered. I love being able to watch every game but staggering the games like that take a lot of the excitement out of it.

I more concerned about Banks playing King than I am about Giamatti playing Riggs.

@NahyapKaslin @brianderoy Seeing as CBS only broadcasts games on Saturdays and Sundays its definitely feasible. Plus it just makes a lot of sense anyways if you look at the amount of games Harlan and Eagle call in the regular season vs Nantz.

@Th1rstQuench3r That doesn't matter. Stop bringing it up.
1 month, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/franchise-player-sports-network.html
1. ACC2. Big 123. Big 10
After that it really doesn't matter. It just becomes a keeping tabs on kinda thing in case UK, Villanova, or Arizona doesn't win. That's also why I put AAC 4th. There's a little bit of intrigue from not having a dominant front runner.

@ShawnDiIorio @stuie299 Eh, to me he seems replaceable, but to each his own I guess.
@Th1rstQuench3r @stuie299 While White and Emrick are both top tier talents in their respective sports I had to go with White because there are two other networks ( ESPN, Fox/FS1, and three if you count beIN) that broadcast soccer. All of them would love to hire white given the chance. As far as NHL goes NBC/NBCSN has an exclusive contract through 2021. That's six years vs only 1 more year of guaranteed EPL on NBC. If NBC is serious about retaining EPL rights its imperative that they keep White. Also given the lengthy contract NBC still has with the NHL I just don't see Emrick leaving any time soon. Also what does Collinsworth working mostly on NBC and not NBCSN have to do with anything?
Unquestionably the best highlight is seeing Sager's suits once again.
1 month, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/best-highlights-craig-sagers-return-sidelines.html
Using the franchise tag on Doc Emrick seems like a bit of a waste when NBC is the only channel with NHL rights. I would have used it on Arlo White or Chris Collinsworth. Those are two people that other networks would be willing to do anything to acquire.
Also I would have been tempted to use the franchise tag on Mike Tirico for ESPN. With all the different properties ESPN has Tirico is as versatile as they come. He can fill in for any announcer in almost any sport. He's also great in studio.
1 month, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/big-changes-2015-ncaa-tournament-announcers-cbsturner.html
Ian Eagle and Dan Gottlieb? Surely Eagle deserves better than this. Also Dan Boner is too good of a color commentator to be stuck in a 3 man booth. Lastly lets hope They're smart enough to put EJ with Charles and Kenny. Greg Gumbel is too serious and straightforward. He just has terrible chemistry with them often not knowing how to handle their off the cuff/joking/conversational style remarks.
So who cares? Anyone that actually liked Vitale liked him as a personality, and not as a color commentator. Its about time Dan Shulman the best CBB announcer at ESPN works with the best color commentator at ESPN. Honestly I'm surprised you keep acting like this is such a big deal.

@Big Bob Marley It would make a lot of sense for CBS to acquire Turner Broadcasting. It would finally give them a cable news outlet, and a cable outlet for reruns. Also adding the NBA and MLB to CBSSN would finally give them enough quality sports properties to get better carriage from cable companies. HBO would probably have to be sold off separately seeing as they already have Showtime. That wouldn't be too hard as I'm sure Fox, Walt Disney, Netflix, and Amazon would all like to get their hands on it.As for Warner Bros IDK.

@ScottMcCulloch @stuie299 @Phive Have you seen FS1's talent pool. Its so small that her getting a tv show means nothing.

Pasch and Walton make for a great odd couple pairing.
1 month, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/bill-walton-breaks-ucla-washington-terms-real-fight-bears-huskies.html
@tylerw204 @RHS76 Yeah, but that's more of a so bad he's funny which in turn makes him good kinda thing. No one would outright say Bill Walton is a good color commentator without meaning it ironically.
@Matt_Zemek @stuie299 @bradleyfan23 Oversight on my part. Though I still agree with bradleyfan23 that they desperately need someone in studio with Charles and Kenny who actually knows CBB. If they do decide to use Kellogg as a color commentator do you have any idea how the Studio teams will shape up? Do you think there is any possibility that Kellogg stays in studio and they use a different color commentator?
1 month, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/predicting-cbsturner-announcing-teams-ncaa-tournament.html
@meangene96 This is only about the amount of homes with ESPN. It has absolutely nothing to do with who actually watches the channel or not. On a less important note none of them are announcers as they do not call games. The only exception being Berman who calls the second game of the Monday Night Football doubleheader they always have at the start of the season.
1 month, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/espnespn2-lost-almost-c-since-2010-gives.html
@Matt_Zemek @stuie299 @bradleyfan23 Keywords are "Final Four announcing team" It says they will work the Big 10 semi-finals and finals but it doesn't say anything about them working early rounds together.
@bradleyfan23 Was just going to post something to that effect.
@jschil @sportsrapport Good question. Plus I'm sure they would want to keep him for when they inevitably bid on EPL rights.
1 month, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/win-katie-nolanian-darke-trade.html
Fox would have won by a landslide. Fox would have been getting a top tier announcer. ESPN would have been getting a talking head of which they already have plenty. I'm surprised ESPN would be willing to trade Darke for such an overrated talent like Nolan. Hell Fox should have taken the Nolan for Darke trade straight up the second that became a possibility.
Its actually rather obvious. Fox and NBCSN can offset cord cutters by being added to smaller less expensive packages that ESPN is most likely already on. ESPN has a lot less room for expansion.
I'm confused as to why this is even a channel in the first place. Were they just completely unaware that the Golf Channel exists.

Wait so this is gonna be a film film, and not just a documentary?!?! That seems completely unnecessary.

@AdamBartel I don't really think you tried looking that hard. As per Broadcasting & CableAs current rights holders, ESPN and Turner had an exclusive negotiating window that wasn't set to lift until the middle of next year; Fox had made it clear they wanted to grab NBA rights if they became available. With two years left on the league’s current deals, it could have looked at an even bigger payday if it had held off renewing and instead putting the rights out to the highest bidder.http://www.broadcastingcable.com/news/programming/nba-signs-new-tv-deals-espn-turner/134587
Sports Business Daily also mentions it in this article.
So does Awful Announcing in this article.
Maybe now ESPN and TNT will realize simply being a big market team isn't enough to warrant a national tv spot. Way to go fans for finally deciding not to watch a big market team.
2 months ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015-articles/lakers-nuggets-set-new-season-low-tnt.html
@AdamBartel Actually Fox didn't even have the chance to bid, because the NBA opened up a special early bidding period to ESPN and Turner. I'm sure if the NBA did open it up to outside bids they would have been pleasantly surprised by how much money Fox would have been willing to spend.
@bizzarr1000 So true.
@bizzarr1000 That's like a month in TV rights deals. Most of these leagues and conferences are wrapped up for so long that everything is pretty much in place. After the B1G there won't be a lot for Fox to try and acquire.
2 months ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/will-big-east-tv-ratings-scare-big-ten-away-fox-sports-1.html
February 15th, really? Good thing its airing twice because otherwise he'd be competing directly with SNL's 40th anniversary special...and I don't think that would be good for growing Grantland's brand.
2 months ago on Conversation @ http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/espnabc-will-air-grantland-oscars-preview-series.html
Simply put there should not be a world cup in Qatar. Extending Fox's rights deal doesn't change that fact. Its a half hearted peace offering that only minimally satiates one of the parties involved.
