I just wish Bob Valvano got more love. They're still sticking him with a shitty time slot.

Very tough sell and frankly just doesn't make sense...like at all. Combat sports are all accounted for. Fox won't let go of the UFC, Haymon just signed a big deal with NBC, and HBO/Showtime have deals with Mayweather and Pacquiao. Beyond that what are people really wanting to watch in the world of combat sports? Bellator?!?! Though doesn't viacom own that outright?

@Kryten2X4B1 @stuie299 Yes, and I'm saying only a complete idiot wouldn't recognize the difference between an actual emergency and a trailer/commercial. In the trailer the tones were very choppy, plus the editing style was a dead give away. In the unfortunate event of a real emergency it would be the tones uninterrupted. No background noise, and consistent. Anyone with any amount of common sense should be able to figure out the difference between the two.

They shouldn't be fined. If you as a person can't tell the difference between a movie trailer and a real emergency you should have 24/7 supervision so that you don't do anything else stupid and potentially dangerous.

I'm a Bears fan so not every other team hates Bill Belichick. In fact, much like Gregg Popovich (I happen to be a Suns fan...don't ask) I respect the hell out of him.

@davidperson035 @bkoo The Sixers???? o_0

As someone who lives in Central PA I can say that the Sixers have a horrible fan base and should not be included with the other 3 teams. People generally watch football, baseball, or hockey. They couldn't care less about Basketball be it the Sixers, Wizards, Knicks, Nets or any CBB teams. Even from 08-12 when the Sixers made the playoffs 4 out of 5 seasons they didn't give 2 shits. Even the AHL Hershey Bears get more love than the Sixers.

That's not to say Pennsylvanians are bad sports fans. They go absolutely crazy for the Steelers/Eagles, Penguins/Flyers,Phillies, or Penn State football.

@BeBreezyMan @simondelmonte I agree that Silver is still highly valuable to ABC/ESPN but they have to show some commitment first. He needs a better delivery platform within ABC's news division and to be incorporated more into ESPN.

@Andy_Salcedo @stuie299 @GoalieLax @simondelmonte I don't think 538 will leave. I think it was a good idea that just never caught on. If Silver leaves I think they just shut down the site. 538 really should have done more Sports Science type stuff except with a Statistical bent or should have been incorporated more into Numbers Never Lie (instead of changing the name to His & Hers).

Alternatively I think Those kind of statistics would be great for a show like The Starters on NBATV and CNN who loves their graphics could definitely make use of Silver.

@GoalieLax @simondelmonte Yeah the ESPN move made little sense to me. I thought this might be a sign of ABC expanding their news division but that never happened.  I would expect him to go somewhere like NBC or Turner who have both a sport and cable news presence instead of just staying invisible.

Fox and beIN Sports will bid but I don't see them being a serious contenders. So really it all comes down to ESPN and NBC. ESPN will throw everything they got at this meaning NBC will have to pay an arm and a leg to retain. Though I'd have to imagine NBC will do whatever it takes to retain these rights.

So basically they're turning into an ESPN clone. John Feinstein was a huge loss IMO, and their replacements aren't any better. DA is ok, but they have better talent on their roster. They should have added Amy Lawrence (she's seriously underrated) to their daytime lineup, but at least she's on 5 times a week now. If not her Jody McDonald or John Kincade would have also been better replacements. I also still can not believe people like Jim Rome as much as they do. Never cared much for that egotistical jackass.

Well this is disappointing. I'm Looking specifically at who TNT replaces Steve Kerr with and the Hill/Anthony combo might have potential. The Barkley/Miller combo doesn't make sense at all. I much prefer Barkley as a studio analyst, and pairing him with Miller seems more like a mismatch. Then ESPN out of nowhere has Ruocco and Barry calling a game. Jon Barry is bad enough, but pairing him with a bad play by play announcer makes it practically insufferable. Also wish NBATV would invest in some decent announcers/analysts to call games. I mean its one thing for League Pass to simulcast the local broadcast but its so annoying to have to hear homers call nationally televised games.

Pretty much this. Instead of jumping into things head first this (if they're smart enough) will give them time to develop the network, so when they do start bidding they'll have everything in place to have great coverage.

Well this is the worst thing possible. ESPN has had terrible coverage ever since they acquired the rights from NBC (other than Breen/JVG and Tirico/Brown). Its a shame Marv Albert, the voice of the NBA, will likely never call the NBA finals again. I wish ESPN would put as much effort into their NBA analysts as they do NFL or CBB. Doug Collins is really their only good NBA studio analyst.

What I really find interesting is despite the game being broadcast on CBS, NFL Network still garnered a 1.7 rating. That's only .6 down from ESPN's CFB game. As a sports fan it saddens me that they can still dominate the ratings even with a no chance in hell blowout. There can't possibly be that many Falcons fans.

@whatupay4sports I totally agree. That is why I always felt it was just as important for them to improve their original programing and journalism. I like what ESPN is currently doing with shows like Sports Reporters, PTI, Around the Horn, and Highly Questionable. I think FS1 should bring on a couple of established sports writers who are more comfortable, and frankly better than the current panel (I actually like Andy Roddick, but that's beside the point) at talking about multiple sports.
