ESPN's NBA coverage needs to take a page out of their CBB coverage. If only TNT could broadcast the NBA Finals and ESPN could broadcast March Madness.

Now that Rachel Nichols' CNN show is canceled I'd love to see her on Real Sports. Time Warner does own both Turner Sports and HBO Sports, so it could work out.

I don't watch CNN and I certainly don't look to CNN for my sports coverage. I think I had maybe heard about this show once,  but I never remembered to watch it. I think CNN did a bad job promoting the show TBH.

Still disappointed Amy Lawrence is not involved with this. She's really capable and deserving of a bigger role.

Pretty much this. Instead of jumping into things head first this (if they're smart enough) will give them time to develop the network, so when they do start bidding they'll have everything in place to have great coverage.

Well this is the worst thing possible. ESPN has had terrible coverage ever since they acquired the rights from NBC (other than Breen/JVG and Tirico/Brown). Its a shame Marv Albert, the voice of the NBA, will likely never call the NBA finals again. I wish ESPN would put as much effort into their NBA analysts as they do NFL or CBB. Doug Collins is really their only good NBA studio analyst.

This is an incredibly petty move by the NFL. They stepped in it pretty badly and are surprised when a Network called them on it.

I think you need to fix your list. It currently reads as such.

t12. Minnesota (Minneapolis-St. Paul market) - 30.9

112. San Diego - 30.7

What I really find interesting is despite the game being broadcast on CBS, NFL Network still garnered a 1.7 rating. That's only .6 down from ESPN's CFB game. As a sports fan it saddens me that they can still dominate the ratings even with a no chance in hell blowout. There can't possibly be that many Falcons fans.

@panderson1988 As far as basketball goes I'd disagree. I'd much rather listen to Marv Albert, Kevin Harlan, or Mike Breen than any of the local teams. The only exception would be if Jon Barry was the analyst. He's the worst.

@whatupay4sports I totally agree. That is why I always felt it was just as important for them to improve their original programing and journalism. I like what ESPN is currently doing with shows like Sports Reporters, PTI, Around the Horn, and Highly Questionable. I think FS1 should bring on a couple of established sports writers who are more comfortable, and frankly better than the current panel (I actually like Andy Roddick, but that's beside the point) at talking about multiple sports.

Number 10 is what's wrong with sports. Big markets have way too much power. Either fix the schedule or give ESPN/TNT the ability to flex games or flex more games if they already can.

@MattGalvin If those are the possible options then I don't see the show improving anytime soon. I mean they were already desperate when they put Simmons on the show. I see them hiring a new analyst to replace Simmons.  Besides Battier made it clear that he joined as a CBB analyst and he'd be the only candidate on that list I'd actually want to give the spot to.

@Phive The NBA may not leave ESPN, but I wouldn't be surprised if they offered FS1/Fox a new package of say Monday, Saturday, or some mix of the two. I could also see one of ESPN/ABC's 3 days going to either TNT or FS1/Fox.

@jbrinks @stuie299 I could also see them going with Doris Burke (I wouldn't mind that), but it would probably require her to stop calling CBB games and I actually really enjoy her in that dual role.

I don't watch Numbers Never Lie so I don't really care if Hill leaves. Now I actually hope Steele leaves. That would mean a replacement for her on NBA Countdown. Hopefully they'd choose Michelle Beadle to replace her. If they're gonna force Bill Simmons on us Beadle did a great job of interacting with him, and not letting him get too annoying when she would fill in. Steele just doesn't have any chemistry with the current NBA Countdown analysts.

@jpk0721 @stuie299 I know. Its just unless its "your team" it doesn't make any sense to want to watch a bad Cowboys or Giants team, or a bad Lakers or Knicks team. If my teams not playing I just want to watch the most competitive game possible and it doesn't make sense that other people don't feel the same way.

@jpk0721 @panderson1988 I guess the real problem (and not just with NFL but sports in general) is why some fans are willing to watch bad games just because certain teams are playing instead of better closer matchups with other teams. It just sucks for us sports fans who want to watch good games regardless of who is playing.

@ShawnDiIorio @MattScheerer Your sarcasm is misguided. If Gus Johnson is going to be Fox's lead soccer announcer he needs practice broadcasting more games. Fox doesn't get MLS games until next year, so the only way Gus Johnson can broadcast more games is if he goes to Europe.

The good thing about it only being a one year contract is that it will be just enough games to open the average fans eyes as to how bad TNF is and then we can try to get rid of it the following year.
