speculation on who that "uniformed member" was? Who in the clubhouse speaks that way? hannah82 English Sox Fan

I think he did his wife a favor. She is far too beautiful to be with a troglodite like that. Madraider Tex19 invisiblefan Nikki in Denver

I like that your saying - I'll have to use that one! Gonzo might have something to say about the second one though - I recall him saying that baseball always came 2nd to God. So, yeah, he must have been a bitch to listen to on Sundays. invisiblefan Tex19

I will scream like Charlie Kelly if they let McDonald ride the bench next season. He's had his 15 minutes in the big time - and he belongs in Pawtucket.

I honestly could not tell the difference between Wheeler, Jenks and Albers this season - they seemed like the same ineffective fat guy, and at least one of them was always on the DL. Actually, are we sure they weren't actually the same person?Sharpie VJ in Stuttgart

ya know, when I started reading all of Gonzo's Bible-thumping interviews, I just had a bad feeling that would not go over well in the clubhouse with anyone besides Saltalamacchia. Especially when he started talking about finding teammates to attend Bible study with. Uh, Adrian...you do realize this is BOSTON, right? Was he really that unaware of who he was signing with? whatever Globe photog who took that deserves an award - two uncertainties at the end of a long dark hallway, looking at an empty ballpark - the boss in his suit, the coach in his uniform. A really fitting picture for the end of the season. :-( God, I look back now at how hopeful I was when they announced the Gonzo and Crawford signings. I was like, this year is gonna be so AWESOME. I was in every Yankee fans face with joy about the upcoming season. I could have never pictured it would come to this. DaleSams

Interesting - I'd love to talk to you more about it offline. I am pursuing a graduate degree in criminal justice next fall. Tex19 invisiblefan Madraider

Gross - as much as I am in favor of pulling a "beyond scared straight" on him as I think he was a bully in that clubhouse, nobody wants to see the "candy" that comes out of Lackey - seeing his mouth-breathing grossness ever five days was enough, thanks. He looks like he smells bad and farts a lot. Tex19 Madraider

I honestly believe it was a trickle-down effect from Lackey. According to all the reports, the drinking started two years ago - which was right when they acquired Lackey. Beckett's been a vocal admirer of his. Beckett, in turn, influences both Lester and Buchholz as Lester at least has been vocal about looking up to Beckett. And I think Lackey just an egomaniacal bully who encouraged it all. I think we all know Beckett has a huge asshole side to him, but before Lackey arrived, others were able to reign it in more - like Mike Lowell. Lowell was a humble guy who the others looked up to and who came with Beckett from Florida - Beckett wrote the intro to his biography and I think they had a big brother/little brother thing going on. And when Lowell left Lackey sucked up the power like a vacuum. I think you take Lackey out of the equation and you have a whole different clubhouse. Which really makes me feel even worse for Carl Crawford - think about it. The pitchers are off being a Texas terror and telling the position players to suck their left nut, the Hispanic players (Ortiz, Scutaro, A-Gon) are probably hanging out together, Ellsbury/Lowrie are a twosome, along maybe with Pedroia, who the pitchers probably see as Tito's pet. In my opinion, Ells does not like Crawford and this season was all about proving he was more valuable than a $20 million redundancy. So who's got Carl's back when Lackey's showing him up? I can't think of a single ally beyond maybe Ortiz for him in that clubhouse. I would bet that that played a role in his poor performance this year - it must have been a lonely year for him. hannah82 English Sox Fan
