A couple of ponts that may be pertinent. There may be a legal requirement that a change has to be completed by a certified letter. Second, many Vandy fans have been wondering for months now if the OSU game would be played. Apparently OSU fans have been talking about who would take the place of the Vandy game for a while now too so I don't hint this was a surprise at all. I also believe both schools are close to naming the relacements so they must have known about this for a while now. So while I absolutely agree changing isnt great, and I did like the NU games to be continued, I do think these two schools are being overly dramatic. As to changing, well I can see why Vandy needs to do this while we grow the program. This year we have the third toughest schedule according to Sagrin (sp?) so we don't need to continue that until we get the better recruits for a few more years. Getting to bowls will get us those recruits. As to Franklin's demeanor, haven't you noticed a big change from last year? Did you watch Muschamp and Franklin during that game. Franklin looks pretty cool and calm to me.

Rosewall is one of my top three favs along with Edberg and Federer. One thing that they all had was amazing movement. Rosewall was the original graceful, smooth, and seemingly effortless mover on the court. He has never ever gotten his due, especially as it pertains to longevity. Thanks for this article. You made me happy.

Excellent write up. I do think the Vandy fans are still onboard. Georgia was fantastic in all aspects of the game and probably could win the SEC and a NC. Thought the Vandy guys pulled it together after obviously being nervous at the start. They never gave up and did put some drives together. It's a long road to build a program but we are on our way. Also want to say that I haven't heard of any problems at the game during TV timeouts so want to compliment the UGA players for their sportsmanship this year. Just wish the "phantom" roughing the kicker penalty hadn't been called but at least our guys kept playing hard. SOV would have stopped trying. Wish UGA luck and hope they wish us the game.

I know this is too late for anyone to read but just to close the loop on this story. Clay Travis (a UT fan) who hosts the show where CJF made this comments has addressed that this was a part of the joke part of the radio show and went with other funny things. http://outkickthecoverage.com/all-that-and-a-bag-of-mail-when-do-you-become-a-dirty-old-man.php Go about a third of the way down this column. The older I get, the more I realize that about 65% of the stuff we all get worked up about is: a misquote, an incomplete or out of context statement, a lie, etc. this goes for sports, religion, and politics. We all need to relax and have a sense of humor.

I actually took his comments an entirely different way. Because coaching is such an intensive profession, you have to make sure the entire family can buy into the time and sacrifices needed. Plus Franklins whole thing is family at the worksite. He wants to make sure the wife is a strong, friendly type that will be a full partner in the process. The wives may end up being surrogate moms to some of these young. I admit I do get riled up sometimes about sexist stuff, but I really didn't read it that way at all. (if you recall someone's wife surely cost her husband some jobs last year)

Why is the headline written as it is? Gives a completely different slant to Fed's comments than what he actually said (that was extremely complimentary to Novak).

All the hoopla/analysis/outrage was about the Franklin-Grantham thing but no one - not UGA or VU fans or press  - ever discussed what I think the problem really was about.  And I don't think it was a player mouthing off at Franklin after the game. While I thought the refs did a good job of calling penalties on both UGA and VU where appropriate, they completely missed the stuff that was going on during the TV timeouts and breaks. fwiw, I don't even know if refs can call stuff like that, but I think if they can call teams for over the top celebration (which in most cases is no big deal), then they really should be able to call such unprovoked behavior.  There could have been a team storming the field to fight which would have turned into a horrible horrible situation. At the time, I was quietly begging Richt to make this stop, but I realize now that no one on the UGA side could have seen what was going on; not the coaches and not the UGA fans or Vandy fans on that side of the field. So I don't blame Richt or Grantham for not calling the player to stop; they didn't know. The only folks would have been the UGA coaches upstairs but they were obviously working hard and didn't see what was happening. Since this was during TV timeouts, no one watching would have seen it either. I know that folks are wondering why on earth I am so worked up about this but I was sitting right where this was going on and in 40 years of going to football games, I have never ever seen anything remotely like it .( during TV breaks starting in the 3rd qtr. a player was going to Vandy sideline. highlights:  grabbing his private parts, bending over,  pointing, mickey mouse ears and laughing hysterically. repeat - yes this was not a one time incident) Wouldhe have done this to Bama or LSU? doubtful. I am just amazed that the Vandy players on the sidelines had the presence of mind not to step on the field.  Look players say junk to each other all the time, but this was the first time I have ever seen such behavior. To Vandy. To me. To my daughter. And I had just voted UGA/Richt as the program that respected us the most.

fwiw, the Georgia family sitting in front of me was not pleased at what they saw either. UGA is my second favorite team and we plan on moving to Athens in a few years, but it is a shame that one kid's behavior has affected how I feel about the program. I am sure that when richt reviewed the tape (do they see between plays?) he was able to have a teaching moment with the player in question. I sure wasn't pleased with Franklin or Grantham's little meeting, but I'm worried that the UGA folks think that Franklin was angry for no reason.  If they are starting to get folks worked up now, I fear for the game this year. I hope it is an exciting, clean and close game. I hope the Richt and Franklin get the players fired up but emphsize no poor sportsmanship. I do wish Richt would acknowledge to the press and fans, that there really was some bad player behavior that won't be repeated. If VAndy doesn't win the East this year then I hope it is Georgia.

Thanks for mentioning the contributions of Vandy's previous coach, Bobby Johnson. He really started the uptick in types of players that went to Vandy. He was the right man for the job, as Franklin is now.

@John at MrSEC Wow. As part of the "All" you replied to, I went back and reread my comment. Can't seem to find anything anti-Tebow in it. If Tebow was the star his freshman year as you state, does that still in anyway justify UF fans treating Leak with the hatred that they did? Should teams hate every players on thier team who isn't the star? I guess all your children were superstars; my child was not. Coaches and teammates saying horrible things (and not in a whisper)  on the sidelines everytime she went in. She never acknowledged what they said, bless her heart, but she kept working hard. I don't know why people decide who to pick on and then gang up on that one person with fury.  All this was happening during the Leak year so that is why I was particularly aware of how people were treating him. As a parent it is HORRIBLE to hear this as you sit in the stands every week. I can't imagine what Chris' parents were feeling. So even if Leak was simply average, he deserved the MVP simply for grace under fire.

Interesting and you are right about the contribution of Tebow in the leadership of the Florida team but I guess my impressions lead to me a slightly different take on it.  Bascially (from my highly unscientific observations from watching them play onTV over the years!)  I think Meyer simply got worn out as the years went on to maybe "phoning it in" as a coach. Without a doubt some of the players he recruited might have taken advantage of the situation to act up. We all know about the retiring/nonretiring/retiring sequence of events but he might have just been getting tired as opposed to being a bad coach. It happens to lots of us folks in regular jobs, much less high pressure like SEC coaching. So if he is re-energized for coaching, he might do well at OSU. Also it seems like there are a lot of other teams that have had trouble with behavior and drugs in the past several years, so it might not be coach specific.

Since you brought up the Tebow years as 2006-2009, I'd like to comment on something unrelated to your article but that has troubled me for a long time.  Btw, I am completely neutral to UF; actually I thought Meyer was the coach that was most respectful of Vandy next to Richt. As a mom, I'm usually looking at things from a maternal standpoint so while I want my team to win, I also want all the players and their parents on other teams to have a good collegiate experience.  They all have dreams of success! One of the things that has driven me nuts is the complete deletion of Chris Leak from history.  If ever there was a guy to have the ultimate senior year football 'hollywood movie" experience, it was him. Great QB, excellent student, and Paul Newman-type handsome. I think he even broke some of Danny Wuerfel's (sp?) records. Yet his senior year must have been living hell for him and his parents. Billboards calling for him to be benched and fans all against him. And yet he hung tough and won the SEC in 2006 and the NC. People get so obsessed with only one winner or hero to the exclusion of other worthy athletes or students.  Wouldn't  two great stories be better than just one? Tebow has benefitted from an outpouring of public support/prayers/and love. If half those people also did the same for other folks like Chris,  maybe they would get the benefit of the doubt by the pros too? Tebow has handled all his fame extremely well thus far, is a hardworker  and can inspire his teammates to play better than they are.  So many are inspired by Tebow, but I tell you Chris Leak getting the MVP of the 2007 NC game after all he went through made me happy. I like thinking there are so many more heros than the media/marketing folks let us know about. So come on, give Leak the leadership mantle for 2006-7. He deserved it.  thx.

Everyone seems fixated on the sex part of this but I don't think that is the problem for UA.  Since he didn't lie to the NCAA (Pearl) and the coach is popular and winning, I can see the UA  not pursuing the "conduct clause" without too much damage.  The problem for UA is the hiring of person he was having sex with. Using taxpaper money no less.  Say the AD can settle this with the girl and her fiance (poor guy), there are STILL a lot of problems left for UA.  I imagine the majority of the folks looking the other way on this one issue, would march to shut down the federal government, if some fed gave 55K to hire his/her girlfriend/boyfriend!

1) what about any past firings for sexual harrassment?  All of those folks will now sue UA if they keep Petrino. and

2) what about future cases of sexual harrassment? Anyone fired will sue, but if they aren't fired the victim can sue ( and probably to a whole new level of compensation: millions not hundreds of thousands)

This really is mind-boggling how Petrino has left the university exposed legally and financially. I don't think keeping Petrino will affect thier recruiting too much, however, the level of ridicule from other schools when they play will be extremely intense.  UA will be a massive joke with Petrino onboard. This also does not help the reputation of the SEC if they keep him.

I have never had an opinion one way or the other for UA or their coach, but I truely feel for the AD right now.  He, and the university, can't get out of this unscathed no matter what they do.  I do think that this AD will do a thorough job and I hope he doesn't lose his job for this.

I actually thought this was a very nice thing for Murray to say. I am wondering if some of the players realize that the move to slower courts in most events is hurting many players. Regardless, given that I thought Murray hated Fed, this was nice of him.

Certainly there are too many bowl games. The more they add bowls, the less I watch. Plus so many schools lose money on this now. Supposedly Texas and Va Tech didn't even sell their allotments. Other schools end up giving the bowls millions to cover income that didn't materialize. So I should agree with this move, but I admit to some self interest here. My Dores went to the Liberty Bowl and we bought all the tickets and had well over 32,000 fans at the game (fwiw, that was the most unbelievable scene I have ever witnessed). Vandy nation has awoken and we all knew that with two more bowl likely schools joining the SEC, we had to show up with fans and money. Listening to the liberty bowl execs afterwards, they were absolutely gushing with Vandy's support. So I admit I am concerned that the timing of going to 7 wins could adversely affect us just as we are moving forward. Hopefully, we will be getting 7 or more wins regularly now, but I am concerned that we would get penalized just as we went 'all in' for the bowl experience. Additionally this will lock in recruiting for the big schools that can say they went to a bowl. The big get bigger. Oh well, Go Dores!
