that's laughable - the second part.
You think Mirza and Taylor are assets? Come on now. Losing Bojan hurts but Lowry IS an asset...a developed asset...an asset ready to help. Bojan for Lowry is fair. I know he's a FA but aren't we supposed to win now? If it happens I'll understand it.
9 months, 1 week ago on Nets Trade Rumors: Nets Heating Up In Pursuit of Kyle Lowry
I still like Mirza but the team is quite deep for him to get regular PT. Change of scenery will help him. Tyshawn Taylor is a spare piece who we wont miss. Bojan, that's the tough one BUT he might come over and he might not, who knows. He wants to but that can change, no?
I've liked Lowry for a while and would be great on the 2nd unit with Pierce and Blatche. Plus if it helps with the cap next season then that's a plus. BTW, can the Nets sign and trade Lowry or are they grounded for spending too much?
Also, carrying 4 PGs is quite much but I dont see Livingston resigning with the team and with the possibilities that Lowry can walk away next season, I'd sign Kendall Marshall who I prefered over Taylor anyway. Dont ask him to score eventhough he's improved his shot/confidence. He can lead a unit.
Yup. I think I mentioned it the day the trade was announced. Thought they'd push Deron-Pierce-Joe-KG-Brook as "the best starting lineup in the league" when it's just too much star power. So yeah, at the time I thought Joe or Pierce should come off the bench and with a mix of Blatche-Mirza-AK47-Livingston-Plumlee they'd have a good mix for the second unit.
With what happened last night, Pierce and Blatche can look to score, Livingston can look to create/distribute and eventually Plumlee and AK can rebound and defend. Much more balanced approach.
Starting shouldnt be important, it's being on the court at the end of games. Hope the staff sells this idea on Pierce and he's up for it. Abandoning it would be a mistake.
9 months, 1 week ago on Should Paul Pierce come off the bench?
@slapdoghoops @A.R. @M I K E Heart was broken a looooong time ago - I'm way past that. If we win - I might get arrested. If we lose to the Heat? Nothing to be ashamed about. If we lose to the Bulls or Pacers in a competitive series? Sure, I'll be pissed, sad, mad, angry but it wont take long to get over that. I dont TRUST Billy King long term eventhough he's done a hell of a job building what he has right now so to me it's a win-win situation. If he stays past these next 2 years it means we won the damn thing. If we lose then he's gone. I'm excited for these next 2 years and then I'm excited about the (very quick) rebuild.
Only chance I'll have my heart broken this season is if we lose to the Knicks - THAT would be something to be ashamed about. Bad move after bad move after bad move. (other than Melo of course...but remind me, which team ended up better after the trade, Nuggets, right? )
1 year, 1 month ago on WOJ: Nets sign Alan Anderson
@slapdoghoops @M I K E Oh boy, that sounds like a ridiculously uninformed opinion. Yikes.
You're a fan of which team, slapdoghoops?
@WynnDuffy @A.R. It's more than okay, sir. Why you'd want a guy who has played for us and shown nothing or West who tends to make bad decisions on and off the court is a head scratcher
@WynnDuffy As opposed to what? Him not playing? Who cares, it was widely speculated that Nets wouldnt use their 15th roster spot, getting Anderson is a great get. Some people wanted him when it was thought that AK wouldnt sign in Brooklyn - to get both? That's even more depth for a team with an already above average bench.
Damion had his chances, too injury prone and didnt prove much when he did get on the court. Saw him in the Orlando Summer League where he shouldve dominated and...nothing.
I'm not EXCITED for the signing because at the end of the day we're talking about Alan Anderson but it's a very very solid way to fill that last spot.
@JonCBK Yup. Precisely what I said a couple of messages below ;)
Kinda getting tired of people talking about him going from 10 million to 3. Should compare what he got to what he got offered but the media is LAZY so nobody will do the work and find out what else he was offered. But like I said - playing FOR a FRIEND (Proky) and playing WITH a FRIEND (Deron) are legit reasons enough to move from Minnesotta so Brooklyn instead of San Antonio (who couldnt come up with a sign and trade deal, its not like Kirilenko rejected them, they couldnt come up with a sign and trade with Minny)
1 year, 2 months ago on Woj: League suspicious of AK signing
I'll add to it - I'd understand the feeling had Kirilenko signed cheap for us LAST season when he came back from Europe. It just wasnt the intention to sign cheap with us, it just happened because nobody would get close to what he made last season (bad advice? bad decision obviously) and if the most he could make was the mid level from the Spurs (5 million-ish?), if that was his best offer then going from 5 mil to 3 mil to play FOR your FRIEND (Proky) and WITH your FRIEND (Deron) then that's a gamble you take based on you and your family being comfrotable in a new city. Pure jealousy. Pure shock.
Yeah, it's just the American owners being in shock. They probably laughed when they traded for Deron because they were sure he'd leave. Then they laughed when Billy traded for the worst contract in the NBA (Joe), then probably laughed because they thought Brook wasnt worth the $$$ and laughed and Hump being paid 12 million per year....and then...KG, PP, JET, AK47!! They're shitting their pants because people WANT to play in Brooklyn (duh) for an owner who will spend and spend over the cap (duh).
Did Proky and Andrei have a side agreement? Who knows but it clearly wasnt plan A since that was Korver and it wasnt Plan A for Kirilenko since he talked to the Cavs and tried a sign and trade with the Spurs. I'd lean on the side of it just being the best option for both at the time.
It's a 1 year deal with a player option for the next so yeah he took a 7 million hit and not a 7 million hit PER season since there's no doubt he opts out even if its to resign with the nets for some type of raise (not 10 million per but still, he's opting out unless we win this year).
He's not as old as Ray Allen but he made the same decision and took the same money to (hopefully) win a title. LETS GO!!
1 year, 2 months ago on What’s in a $7-million discount?
@JonCBK @A.R. @NetsAreFinallyScorching I know.
1 year, 2 months ago on NETS SIGN ANDREI KIRILENKO
@NetsAreFinallyScorching Kirilenko, always. If not then just go zone.
Anyway, I had the same thought about starting AK at the 3 and sending Joe or Pierce to lead the 2nd unit. Hopefully it happens and Pierce/Joe understand (and they probably do)) that it doesnt matter if you start the game or not, it's if you're in the lineup with 5 minutes left in the game.
@WynnDuffy @Swagnificent that's gonna change real fast if it's true.
Wanted Korver way back when we drafted him but knew it'd be difficult to sign him now with what we had to offer. We move on. I keep hearing Bellinelli and Delfino but I think those 2 would be the most expensive for the role we're looking for. I'd try for Barnes or Francisco Garcia. Signing them as cheap as possible would allow us to bring over Bojan before he gets a big offer in Europe next year. So might want one or the other (Vet vs Bojan) but we need the insurance of the vet in case Bojan needs an adjustment period. If Bojan starts hot that vet can go to the end of the bench.
Point is, Korver was the only shooter Id sacrifice bringing over Bojan for. Now he's out of the picture so the plan should be Bojan + a cheap vet.
1 year, 2 months ago on Nets out of the running for Kyle Korver?
Yep. This is awesome. I celebrated when we drafted him 10 years ago (or however long it was) cause that's who I wanted with the pick...and then 5 minutes later we sell him. Gonna be pretty stoked if this happens.
1 year, 2 months ago on Deron Williams wants Kyle Korver in Brooklyn, report says it’s “in the bag”
@Iam3dhomer whoops lol it was the excitement, that was right after the announcement lol...
maybe Plumlee can grow a little fro too, but i doubt it
1 year, 2 months ago on BREAKING: Kevin Garnett will waive his no-trade clause, clearing Nets & Celtics blockbuster trade
@foclpnt If you're a HEAT fan you're probably just that and know nothing about Wallace sucking balls and being overpaid and having the longest contract of all the players in the trade. The others were spare pieces. The picks will be in the 20s.
The Nets turned Evans into Garnett. Bogans into Terry. Wallace into Pierce. Humphries into Plumlee. What's not to like? The team has a short 1-2 year window with KG and Pierce but everyone involved knows that. When they retire....we spend some more! Proky dont care!
Deron - Tyshawn
Joe - Terry
Pierce - Bogdanovic
KG - Blatche
Brook - Lopez
+ Mirza, another PG, another SG or MarShon. Why not??!?! :-)
@WynnDuffy You were right. If that happens then I'm on the other side of the fence now.
1 year, 2 months ago on Report: Nets, Celtics talking Pierce/Garnett blockbuster
@WynnDuffy @aerichner DUH but HOW, come up with something that makes sense, use the salaries to backup your idea. Make it work.
Have fun - http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm
@WynnDuffy and how in the hell would they do that?
@WynnDuffy @aerichner Im quite aware. It depends on the year as first rounders have been purchased for 3 mil before. It's been widely speculated that this year many teams are looking to get out of the first round, some might sell the picks, some might deal for future picks. Owners are CHEAP and there are always teams looking for that $$$$.
I'm on board. We can gripe about their age, about being douchebags, whatever. However I do want Garnett on this team for that intensity and leadership. Pierce I can deal with if he's the key to KG waiving his no-trade clause.
To whoever is worried about losing 3 first round picks, we all know 3 million cash can buy you one and Billy is always willing to buy picks so this is the least of my worries right now. It also doesnt affect our future cap (makes it better, actually). We were already slated to stay out of FA until after the 2015/2016 season and this doesnt change those plans. Shedding Gerald's 3 remaining years gives us some breathing room (unless Billy unexpectedly extends both PP and KG which would obviously change my opinion on the trade)
@VegasC29 Agree again. Missmanagement. Not sure if it was Billy or if Avery lobbied for having them with the main roster or for practice or whatever. They shouldve used the NBDL team more often. Why have one?
Anyway, we'll see with Marshon. One thing about Billy I like, he's very very active.
1 year, 2 months ago on Report: Nets willing to trade MarShon Brooks for late first-round pick
@VegasC29 Agree with you. But he's just a guy without a role. Marshon doesnt have as big of an attitude at all. But with 15 roster spots (13 active), he just didnt get better from year 1 to year 2. Im fine if he stays on the team because he IS talented but Im just saying, Im not gonna cry over MarShon Brooks. If he gets dealt for a 1st, cool.
@WynnDuffy @Max Weisberg @scorched_earth Brooks is a scorer that doesnt move around well without the ball. Needs the ball in his hands. I dont want the ball in MarShon's hands because he doesnt make good decisions.
I'm gonna love seeing Ricky Rubio's reactions when he makes a sick pass to MarShon and MarShon just stops everything and goes ISO.
But seriously, get me Reggie Bullock shooting corner 3s. Get me Shane Larkin as a change of pace 2nd unit PG (who can shoot the 3 better than MarShon and Tyshawn). Get me Dieng or Whithey to backup/play alongside Brook. Get me Tim Hardaway Jr.
@scorched_earth @Max Weisberg he must be one of your favorite Nets. The NBA is litered with guys like MarShon. Talented guys without a role...and he's stubborn to boot.
Late 1st round pick? Gee, where was MarShon drafted? They'd go even if they deal him for a late 1st, good value (while he still has any). Nothing wrong with cutting the chord, atleast we're not Charlotte (Kidd-Gilchrist) or the Kings (Thomas Robinson) who are dealing their top 5 picks after just a year. That's ridiculous.
I can definitely let go of Marshon. For all the talent in the world he possesses, he doesnt GET IT. Reminds me too much about fans reacting to Terrence Williams being dealt. Talented young guy who couldnt find his niche in the league. If we can still get a 1st for him, do it. You gotta know when to cut the chord.
Nets just won 49 games this season, what the hell did he bring to the table? Fresh legs? You'll get a new pair of fresh legs in the draft. He's just not a fit.
Yes, the Nets were called stupid by fans for dealing TWill away, I suspect the same thing will happen, and fans will be wrong again.
@calling all toasters Indeed.
I'm not worried about not having HC experience. My main worry was off the court stuff. I'm all for him being a players coach but I hope he can detach himself from being one of the guys.
1 year, 3 months ago on NETS HIRE JASON KIDD AS HEAD COACH
LOVE the out of the box thinking and with top assistants coming over I think we'll be in good hands. I want Grgurich the most but Frank would help. Hadn't heard about Bob Thate but again sounds like a good idea. I like it. Very excited for these next 3 years.
Temper expectations tho - this will be a perennial playoff team. The championship might not come but like I said before, it's harder to achieve in the NBA than any of the other major sports. Less parity. This should be fun anyway, didnt think they had the balls to try this out.
Even without coaching experience, we now have a better HC than the Knicks do.
@WynnDuffy @M I K E @Mopo I'm very excited if Kidd can get both Lawrence Frank AND Tim Grgurich on the staff. I had heard both names but thought it was more either/or - if he gets both, awesome staff for the Kidd
1 year, 3 months ago on Jason Kidd: A risk… worth taking
@M I K EAgreed ...plus, Mike Woodson or Jason Kidd? Clearly the Nets beat the Knicks on that one. It's a splash only because of the timing and time between his retirement and first HC interview.
I'd have 0 problems with this. His DUI's and whatnot worry me a bit but with regards to him being ready, forget that, I'm all for this out of the box thinking and I'd applaud the Nets for it.
Are we supposed to let someone else give him a shot, see him succeed and then TRY to get him to be our coach? What do Lionel Hollins, Brian Shaw, Ettore Messina, Jason Kidd have in common? They've never coached in or won an NBA title while being an NBA head coach. Van Gundy hasnt won one either, nor has George Karl (and they havent been a part of one in quite some time).
I'm all for seeing what Jason can do with the team (or Shaw if he ends up with the job). All we have to do is temper expectations. We'll be a playoff team for sure. Will we win a championship in 3 years? It isn't likely but that doesnt mean he was a bad coach, maybe he gets canned for it (after all, that's what happened to Hollins/Karl/VDN) but doesn mean he was unsuccessful.
Of the 4 major sports, the NBA is the one with the least parity and is harder to win a championship.
God I hope he goes to the Clippers. I still prefer Shaw or JVG. Hollins has come off as super stubborn these past 2 days.
1 year, 3 months ago on Report: Nets formally request interview with Lionel Hollins
@silentkman @smonroe Cool, my main focus wasnt Reed, thought it was clear that it was Levitre.
I dont think Reed will be expensive like others think so if that's the case, no problem with adding him to go cause some turnovers.
1 year, 7 months ago on Possible Safety Targets in Free Agency: Ed Reed or Others?
Best thing to happen to the Colts is the Bills franchising Byrd, opening the door for Andy Levitre to leave. We add him as a Guard to the O-Line and you go cheaper/short term with Ed Reed at Safety.

What we dont know is if Grigson tried to get Jean-Baptiste as an UDFA and missed out to the Ravens so he signed Anunoby instead. I'll assume that this was the case and I'm very happy with the move since I wanted them to draft him.

perfect use of the roster spot - young guy, some upside, big, if he can focus on just shooting instead of trying to live up to where he was drafted, we might get a great return on investment

2 years, 1 month ago on 14th man: Filling out the roster
Since I dont think Delfino will sign for the vets minimum, the best player that could is Josh Howard and he's supposedly considering the Nets. That'd be a good signing.
I know he said this before we had all this talent but:
“If I were him, I would stay," Tracy McGrady said of Magic center Dwight Howard. “Where’s he going to go? Why do you want to go to New Jersey, go to Brooklyn? Look at their team."
That's still fresh in my mind, Tracy. Stay away.
I feel like Shelden makes sense in a limited role but also Kenyon...he's perfect just for his trash talking. I can imagine him already getting in Melo/Amare's face and them backing down like some scared little puppy. He can go block a shot or slam down a dunk. While his energy might sometimes be negative (hothead) I think he has a role on this team.
or Al Thornton...
2 years, 1 month ago on Andrei Kirilenko Chooses $20 Million Over Veteran's Minimum, Signs With Minnesota Timberwolves
@jtshoopsblog The point of the article isnt that the Nets dont *need* a backup C for Brook, it's that the Nets already have a backup C in Hump. It'd be a small lineup with Hump at C but Crash, Mirza and Evans can cover the PF minutes (+ Kirilenko if he really signs which isnt likely). Avery also already said Mirza will get minutes at the 4 & 5.
The point is that giving Brook's minutes if he's out to one of the garbage players available isnt really the best option since you can give minutes to Hump at the 5.
I wouldnt mind signing some of the bigs mentioned to play 6-8 minutes a game if it's Darko or Oden or signing a young big to develop like Jerome Jordan or Whiteside who are both young. But the point is that if Brook is out, Hump should be in. If Hump is out, there's Mirza. If both are out, we brought the bad luck with us from Jersey.
2 years, 1 month ago on The Nets don't need a backup center
Haddadi might be worse than Petro. Seriously.
Oden? Sure why not. If you really want a BIG big then go for potential. Milicic would be next on my list from the ones that are realistic (Robin Lopez isnt a realistic option).
I understand the post is about NOT needing any of the guys I mentioned - which is well written and makes a good point - but lets be realistic, odds are Billy will sign a "7 footer".
Is Jeff Foote worth a spot? I could only catch limited minutes of him in the summer league but didnt look awesome to me...thoughts? anyone?
2 years, 2 months ago on The Nets don't need a backup center
Good good. Obvious move taking advantage of his Bird rights. Also, while he's being overpaid, it's not a long term deal so it's a win-win for both player and team.
Now, Nazr Mohammed, really? Heh.

@Vin I like Randolph too...but if we were still the same old decrepit non-playoff Nets. Talented kid but he just doesnt have the motor/bball IQ. He's bounced around the league for a reason. Someone else will give him a chance but his career path is looking eerily similar to Gerald Green's: bounce around the league based on your potential, out of the league, prove yourself in NBDL, someone gives him a chance.
Stack wont get significant minutes and is probably more of a coach than a player at this point anyway. "Veteran presence".
Still wondering who we end up as the backup center. Gotta be someone who can play decent minutes so we dont run Brook into the ground, right?
and the Nets have arguably the best (healthy) player from all the teams you mentioned (Sixers, Wiz, Celtics, Bulls) in Deron. They added Joe Johnson. They'll have Gerald Wallace for more than 15 games. They'll have Brook Lopez for more than 5 games. They might bring back their double-double machine in Hump. They have Mirza and Marshon on the bench. Just signed the backup that started for the Bulls when "they played well without Rose" and added toughness and rebounding help inside with Reggie Evans.
