@G4Cube these were the ones I was looking at. I realize the others are not yet shipping. They have both told me it would be soon. I am willing to wait. Let's hope their version of soon is not a year.
What other raids were you looking at?

I would double check with Avid. As there requirements , and prices changed recently. But Squeeze is a very good compressor if your coming from FCP

It normally comes bundled with Sorenson Squeeze.
@Vfxbryan It is very well laid out and simple to read.

Thats great. Just an FYI if you go to 10.8.3 there are new drivers for Nvidia cards that need to be installed or you will be in the boat again. Best of luck!
1 year, 8 months ago on Updating My MacPro to a Nvidia GTX570
It's hard for me to tell, as I am not on 10.8.2. Maybe installation of Premier went bad. It just does not make sense that all the other programs function, and PP fails. That may be the place to start, since all your other applications function.
I am amazed you got it working with 10.8.2. There was some rumours of the card not playing well with 10.8.2. That error could mean anything. Was your OS upgrade a clean install or an upgrade? I find upgrade usually come with some driver issues.
@AntonioRuiRibeiro I am pretty sure it does. It currently works with my CS5 / and CS6. But you can always double check with Adobe supported cards for 5.5 .
@KevinCotton thank you.

@KevinCotton I am currently using the Cosair H90. It works well. You just need to make sure you have a place to mount it in your case, as the fan is 140mm
@KevinCotton no I did not. There was just enough room. I now switched to a water cooled fan. So there is even more room now.
@mark p thanks ! That seems like a more logical order. I will keep that in mind
@videoguys @Tej Babra thank you !
@bkmvincent it is weird that it does not line up.
X79 should run a little cooler too ? Loosing Thunderbolt is not that big of a deal as USB 3.0 is pretty much everywhere now. I just wanted Thunderbolt, as I got spoiled working with it already.
1 year, 9 months ago on Building a PC Part 1
@bkmvincent @Tej Babra I agree with you. It's not really a tool-less case. Installing the graphics card support bracket was bit difficult. But then again my MacPro is not tool-less either.
I have not had any issues with my drives aligning up. You may have one that was built on a Friday. ;)
I really do like this case.
Thank you !
The Corsair Obsidian was my original choice, however I could not pass up the sale price on the HAFX, it was nearly half the price of the Corsair on my day of purchase. I like how the HAFX has 2 hot swappable bays, directly in front of the machine, making it super easy to swap out drives. Not as convent as the Corsair, but still effecitive.
I have also run OSX on it, but on a old mechanical drive I had sitting around. I plan on grabbing another SSD soon.
Opps I forgot to mention the ram... 32GB G.Skill Trident X.
@Richard Brady that is very strange. Considering Windows 8 is built on Windows 7.
GoPros record onto QuickTime H.264. Do you have QuickTime installed on your PC ?

@CormacFarrell on my stock GTX570 there are 2 sockets for the 6pins. they both have to be plugged into the motherboard to gain enough power. If you have separate PSU, then that's good too. But both plugs have to be plugged into a psu to get the correct voltage.
Let me know hot it goes.
1 year, 10 months ago on Updating My MacPro to a Nvidia GTX570
@CormacFarrell No. I had the 6pin to mini 6pin. As mine is a 3.1 MacPro Tower. So the physical ports themselves are 6pin only, with no adapters. I just used the cable shown in the article above.
Maybe you need something like this ?

@JmacHS you can run your display off the GT120, as long as you have the available slots. I am running one of my displays of my ATI card. Leaving all the heavy cuda lifting to my 570

That's a good piece of advise. But you never know when walking into an suite what has been left behind.

Thank You Luke! Sorry abut the late reply. I was not notified about your comment, hopefully that has now been corrected. Any brand of the 570 should do. The drivers are the latest versions available from Nivida for OSX. I am not sure sure if it will work on 4.1 towers. I have seen people have some trouble with it on Creative Cow.

Those are some great tips. Especially, your approach to the trailer as it's own film. That is a great way to look at it. I think countless revisions can get a little frustrating, but as you say... it really is a fun gig if you can get it.
@GWithers Like Bruce said, it does work well with multi-cam scenarios. test it out in the trail version if you would like to. It really sppeds up multi-cam workflows. I believe they also have a tutorial for your type of project.
Take a look at this video tutorial here

2 years, 9 months ago on BlackMagic Design UltraStudio 3D Review
@Bernardus I have not used Epic footage in this manner. So I am not entirely sure why this was happening. It seemed a little strange to me. Thus, I actually asked this question to a BlackMagic Design Rep on PostChat tonight. Here is their response to your questions.
1. BMD_Joshua Response : " Most likely reason for this is that the cameras are not frame synced. The UltraStudio 3D (and by relation the Decklink HD Extreme 3D+) have extremely tight tolerances. If they are out a little bit, it will only show the one (link A) video. So best solution is to get those cameras genlocked and framesynced and give it a go."
2. BMD_Joshua Response : "Several reasons. All of SDI products feature 3GB SDI which can be used for Dual Link over 1 SDI. But we have the Channel A and B for traditional Dual Link signals as well. It also serves as discreet right eye/left eye for 3D captures. "
I hope this helps answers your questions.
@Bernardus Hey, I am not sure what you are asking. You can't see both cameras in the same timeline? You can only see 1 line as in 1 field? IS this footage interlaced?
If you would like to join us for PostChat. We will be discussing all BlackMagic Products tonight. Plus we have a special guest from BlackMagic Design Support team to answer all your tech questions. Many Editors will also be on hand to provide feedback. It may prove useful.

@clueluzz I used Avid's fast import. What that does is re-wrap the codec to an MXF file, as opposed to transcoding all the footage. This only took a few seconds, as opposed to minutes.
2 years, 10 months ago on Avid Media Composer 6 Review
@kushanku1976 I find that AMA has improved. It may have to do with the new 64 bit system. Avid can now tap into even more cores and ram. It worked really well bringing in AVCHD files.
My ProRes files imported to same standards. So My ProRes HQ went in as HQ. If you wanted to you could convert them to something else such as DNxHD.
I am using Livefyre and so far I think it's very good. Their tech support has been outstanding ! That alone makes them a great choice for me.

These are designed for taking video, but they do have still frame capabilities. You can often take a frame grab off either camera.
