Thus far Bonner and Diaw have refused to use their big body to become better rebounders. Therefore Baynes and Pendergraph should get the opportunity to see how physical they can be in the paint. Duncan needed rebounding help last year and will need it even more this year. Leonard will probably end up being the best rebounder after Duncan.
1 year ago on Five things to watch this season
Simply put, Spurs front line kept them from winning the championship last year and the Spurs Front Line will keep them from making back to the finals if they don't improve their toughness down low!
I think Leonard will get into the lane more to create more scoring opportunity and get fouled, but I think the main thing for the Spurs to get back to the finals is Diaw and Baynes becoming better rebounders and becoming a little bit better scorers.
If Baynes and Diaw can become better rebounders the Spurs can possibly make it back to the finals if Leonard steps up and Tony stays healthy.
1 year ago on Aron Baynes: I'm doing whatever I can to get better
Talk about Kawhi's break-out year, this could be Cory's and Danny's breakout year! Spurs should be quite a force if these guys keep improving, Diaw steps up his game and Tony stays healthy!
1 year ago on Joseph, Canada advance to Phase 2 in FIBA Americas with win over Uruguay
Still, John, you don't start a guy all season, have the best record in the league with that guy starting and not let him play in the play0ffs 3 years straight. That's just wrong and Pop knows it!
Blair earned at least two full playoff games to show what he could do without being yanked at the drop of hat!
1 year ago on DeJuan Blair feels Spurs didn't believe in him
Blair may never get his confidence back and have a season with two 20/20 games in his rookie season, a feat unheard of by a Rookie, primarily because of Pop's poor communication with him!
You don't start a guy three years and have tremendous success by having the best or 2nd best record in the league each year Blair starts and then take him out during the playoffs against the Thunder of all teams which he has dominated his whole career. Pop's communication with Blair was horrible; it was the worst I've ever seen Pop handle a game changing player!
Maybe RC and Pop want teams to be really fired up and motivated to play them, but with Tim, Manu, and Tony getting older I would not want all that extra motivation. But Pop and RC have been such great basketball minds for so long it may not matter. Should be interesting though!
1 year, 1 month ago on DeJuan Blair takes swipe at Spurs during press conference
I think the Spurs are just asking for trouble by no trading Blair out of their conference. You already got an angry Howard and maybe Stephen Jackson in Houston, a mad Grizzly team in Memphis, and now an angry Blair in Dallas. You better believe this conference will be coming at the spurs like its a championship game each time.
Lakers might trade Howard to Spurs with what's happening over there!
1 year, 7 months ago on Josh Smith takes a whirl on the trade machine
It's time for RC/Pop to be aggressive at the Trade deadline. The window is closing for Tim, Manu, and maybe Tony to get another championship.
It's been a long time since the Spurs had someone who could defend the paint like Josh Smith. I think I would give up Tiago, Jackson, Mills, and a 1st round pick this year and next year for Josh Smith. Parker has needed a a post defender for five years now and RC/Pop have not been aggressive enough.
No way I'm giving up Leonard though! No way the Spurs make it through the WC playoffs without a post defender or a better post scorer. This team is not built for the playoffs with Duncan our best post scorer and post defender aging!
The way Pop treats Blair will affect the mental psyche' of the whole team! Be careful!
1 year, 10 months ago on Blair tweets feelings on not playing in season opener
Pop, should either play him, trade him, or waive him. How does Blair start off in Pop's doghouse! Wow! Blair's young legs should not need any saving for back-to-backs!
Actually, Diaw and Jackson do some things that make Bonner easier to move, but Matty is a locker room favorite and a big that can spread the floor.
2 years ago on Spurs still neglecting 'biggest' issue
Since Diaw does some of things Bonner did and also plays defense, I would probably look to move Bonner before Blair, plus Bonner is owed more money than Blair.
Bonner for DJ White might work
I think probably the best move worth the risk at this point is to try to trade Bonner for Epke Udoh! L like Tyrus Thomas, but the money vs the risk I don't like. Spurs need Udoh and Bucks need Bonner, so I think it work well for both teams!
@jaws3 All good points "jaws3" - Good to see some insightful comments!
I think the Spurs are looking for an potential all-star at center or keep the front line they have. The Spurs were grooming Ian Mahini for several years to help relieve Tim and help Parker for years, but it didn't work out. Now unless the Spurs get very fortunate in the draft or find a foreign steal, then they have to wait until they get more cap space to go after the Center they really want. By that time it may be to late to help Tim or Tony!
Most may not see it, but Leonard and Blair are potentially the best post players on the Spurs right now, when it comes to making big plays. The energy and youth of Green, Leonard, and Blair, mixed with Tony and Tim was exciting to watch last year. With Neal, Manu, and Splitter energizing bench play and adding Diaw, Jax, and Mills the Spurs won some 24 games straight. Still wonder why Pop abandoned this exciting rotation last year!
But still the Spurs biggest concern is their "Post Play" in the 4th quarter, in the playoffs! Maybe Blatche if he gets his head on straight can help.
2 years ago on Spurs' Green says Thunder the favorite over Lakers, would like to play for Team U.S.A.
Diaw and Splitter are good post players in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd quarters, but will probably not make big plays consistently in the 4th quarter especially in the playoffs!
Green, Leonard, Neal, and Blair will all be better, but how do the Spurs improve over last year when their "Post Play" is getting worse. Timmy will not have the year he had last year. Unless Pop trust Leonard and Blair to work in the Post in the 4th quarter Spurs will not improve over last year
What I don't understand is why can't the Owners split their share or the BRI 60/40 with the small market teams getting 60% and th the big market teams getting 40%. Can someone explain the Owner "Revenue Sharing Plan".?
It seems that if the Owners get the system overhaul that they want and come up with an equitable "Revenue Sharing Plan" they could bulge on the 50/50 BRI split with the players to a 51/49 split. It's ridiculous intelligent individuals can't come to some agreement.
2 years, 11 months ago on League expected to shelve more games | October
I don't know a lot of the details, but the amnesty idea of being able to get rid of bad contract should help each team make money if other decisions the Owners make are sound and let more players play where they want to play. As far the BRI, I think as revenues increase for Owners, it's only fair that revenues increase somewhat for players.
