Founder of bWEST - a marketing services firm helping companies leverage social media to grow their business. Co-founder of Social Media Camp @SocMediaCamp
I have to admit that I was skeptical of BNI at first not knowing anything about it. I share Woody Allen's philosophy about clubs so there was that too. I've been a member now for 4 years and genuinely look forward to my Wednesday morning BNI meeting.
Sure it's been good for my business' bottom line but I've gained even more value from the relationships and friendships I've developed in those 4 years. We mentor each other with our complimentary business services / knowledge and provide moral support when necessary.
My advice to anyone getting started is to give it time, get involved and subscribe to the givers gain philosophy. It works!

Jay, that is one thorough, informative and useful post - thank you! On the downside, having read your post I've concluded that unlike Buzz and Wave I am going to need to spend the time to learn and use G+ which I was trying to avoid.... :-)

ginidietrich Darn - keep me on your list for next time.
Yeah, we're giving 1 copy to the first 200 people the register for Social Media Camp in Victoria http://www.socialmediacamp.ca and the other 175 will be used as gifts, door prizes, raffles etc. So I don't really need another one... :)
