@BayernTim Yelp, if it is not winning because the other team has injuries, now Mizzou will win only because Auburn was emotionally flat.  It does not matter that Mizzou's game was a must win to get to Atlanta the week before also.  Remember Mizzou  doesn't win, the other team loses.

A few other nuggets:

1) Mizzou may have a season like Miss.St., where they start the year winning due to a soft schedule, but get a lot of losses once conference play starts(John in Athlon's preseason's prediction)

2) The last coach to try that was Mark Richt and the Dawgs didn't do so well( John's comment on Pinkle eliminating 2-a-days and keeping the team healthy during preseason)

3) Mizzou getting to Atlanta is tough,...very tough(beating OL Miss & A&M, Auburn is a title contender(John's reasoning for not ranking Mizzou as a title -contender, but he ranked Auburn even though they had to play the number 1 team.

4) OL Miss offense is hot!  They're averaging 40 pts in last 4 games, (Did not mention 3 of those games were against Idaho, Troy & Arky)

@mb6783  No hate.  Missouri fans understand John(MrSec) does not know much about Missouri.  Heck he thought Missouri City was in Missouri and not Texas.  We also understand that the SEC old guard is rooting against Mizzou.  They believe that Mizzou's early success takes away from the conference image(how could an outsider be so successful if the SEC is strong?).  It does not but the SEC old-guard is so insecure, that they are now crediting injuries to the teams that Mizzou beat.

What about injuries to Mizzou last year?...Did not matter we were told we lacked depth....Where's the SEC depth?  Heck Mizzou starts 4 2-stars on defense & 1 4-star.  Georgia & Fla has 4-stars on the bench.  Proof that the star-system does not matter.   At some point John will be correct......Mizzou will lose & the old guard will feel comfortable.  In the meantime John keep losing credibility.

If Slive falls for the paycheck and not ownership then he is not as smart as I thought.   Short-term thinkers take a check(see Texas).  People with vision own(see Big10 & PAC 12) .   Yes the Big10 struggled early, but now they have a cash cow, as will the PAC12.

Although the released footage is new to the public, the AD & Prez in November saw Rice kick a player in the fanny.  If their judgment & the  tape did  not tell them  that Rice had a problem then they lack the ability to see the big picture.   This makes Jeff  Long look even stronger, by firing a successful and popular coachhese guys hid behind a loser, as the AD said to "protect Rugers University".     That's not leaership

Defend Mike Rice & his AD if you want, but these were not isolated incidences.  In fact ESPN released more footage today and in one he puts his foot right up a kid's fanny, while in anoter he takes the dummy and uses it to hit another kid.  How could the AD & prez not fire this guy on the spot?

Looking at this from another perspective, while in college my fraternity was suspended for "hazing another student.  The school administrators reviewed the documents and concluded that for hazing one student the chapter should be suspended for 4 years.  Mike Rice hazed 10-14 students and was suspended for 3 games and continued to collect over a $ $million in cash from a state supported university, after his superiors review.  Do you want these individuals making decisions regarding students, and potential liability?

"Guess a lot of people were delusional".........That happens all the time.  Most folks have the herd mentality, even if it means being wrong.   Pressey is the only player on the team, with 5 transfers and Bowers(out last season) comprise the 8-man rotation.  No other team other than UK can say the same.  The conference underachieved, but  Mizzou did their part.

1 year, 6 months ago on There’s No Room For Crying Across The SEC Today

MrSec........News flash!!!   Mizzou made the tournament.  If anyone(including you) predicted a team that returned 1 player from last years's entire roster to be a top 10 team, they were delusional.  Even UK's champions & Final Four returned 3-4 role players to supplement the 1 & Dones.  Mizzou is in,(although playing Louisville in Lexington insures an early exit).

 SEC basketball has 3 issues:

1) the Horrible losses in November & December.  The coaches need to prepare their teams just as the other major conferences to beat the early season cupcakes.  In the SEC it appears folks are still celebrating football

2) Officiating......the inconsistent officiating hurts the teams and chances to make tournaments.  The home team has a decided advantage not because teams cant play on the road, but because the officials call 2 different games, one for the vistors and one favoring the home team.  This exist across the board throughout the SEC.

3) In conference Schedule- It lacks rhyme or reason.  If football can be broken into 2 leagues then why can't basketball.  At least have thedivisions play round robin against each other.

Franklin will be fine.  Those who question his toughness forget how he was injured in the spring practice ...He jumped into a pile to recover a fumble.  Not very smart, but it illustrated the kind of player he was.  In addition the previous year he took players head on.  Franklin never should have played last year.   He could not throw until June, but even during fall practice he could not throw on consecutive days.  Pinkel knew coming into a stronger league that he needed Franklin because the guy behind him was not ready.  He wanted Franklin to take the pain-killer and Franklin made the right choice.  The problem was theOC kept running an empty backfied and teams were teeing off on Franklin, or the OC would run Franklin up the middle.  Pinkel and his staff did not coach very well last year.

Pinkel would love to start Mauck, but he knows Mauck is not better than Franklin. Hecould also by time by telling the alums I started a freshman at qb if therecorddoes not improve.    Mizzou fans foundation for Mauck is his high school record & Johnny Football's success as a redshirt freshman....How often does that happen.  Mauck is no Johnny Football.

John, your comment on Mizzou not getting Warmack goes to the weakness with the overall  rating system.  Mizzou recruited Abbington a 4 star running back, but missed on Elliott another 4 star running back this year.   Warmack selected K-State because they recruited him as a rb, while Mizzou recruited him as a db.  Warmack is 5.8 185 and Mizzou is moving away from the small running back(Abbington is 6.2 215) & Markel Smith a commit for next year at rb is 6.2 220).    What Mizzou did learn is that in the SEC the bigger back has a better chance than the smaller back that can run wild in the Big12 due to the lack of defensive tackles in the league(not a dt in Big12 is expected to go in top 3-4 rounds in draft).   In addition Mizzou has two 5.8 185-190 rbs on the squad(Hansborough a Soph, & Josey a Jr.).   You are correct in stating that Mizzou needs to shore up the borders, but this does not apply to this kid.

Frank has ALWAYS thrown his players under the bus.  As a Mizzou grad I followed Frank Martin at K-State and after each loss he would blame the players, and at times even drop names or plays(you knew which player) that led to his defeat.  His act will wear thin because behind all of his tough talk is the fact that he can not coach basketball.  Look for players to be thrown under the bus in the future.

I agree that there are not any guarantees involved, howvever the ACC's instability  benefits the SEC.  The SEC wants Carolina & Va. Tech ideally To capture the Carolina, Va. & DC market.  Slive is willing to take Duke if Carolina mandates.  However if UNC & Duke go to the Big10, then Slive still has NC.St to fall on for the Carolina market. NCST is the 2nd most popular school in the state behind UNC(Duke fans are Durham only in state).  So at worst the SEC gets NCST & Va.Tech which provides Carolina, Va, & DC markets.

Mike Slive has illustrated that he can go on the offensive & be defensive in one move. Why would Mike Slive sign a Bowl agreement with a league that was on life -support at the time of the agreement?   Why would Slive not work out an agreement with a conference(ACC) in larger tv-markets than the Big12(Texas & 4 small states)?

Signing the Bowl deal with the Big12 gave LONG-TERM legitimacy to the Big 12 as the 4th major conference, while dooming the ACC.  Legitimizing the Big12 was done to accelerate the demise of the ACC so that the SEC could expand into North Carolina & Virginia.  If the ACC remained strong then the odds of the SEC moving into those states diminish.   That in my opinion was the most astute move in this game of realignment.

Tman it would be too simplistic to attribute gains or losses on the stock to Lin.  You need to look at the movement in the market as a whole(S&P 500), what variables were involved at the time Lin started his run eliminate the firstfew games because you would be assuming that the market  anticipated this unknown to takeoff, so the any stock increases in his first game were attributed toother variables).   Was the market coming off a selloff when he started.

What was going on in the market when Lin signed with Houston & was the Hedge Fund guys using their inside information that the Feds are aware of to sell the market down,(was the market selling off).  Finally assuming Lin's signing with Houston cost MSG over $100 mill is too great of a reach for even Peaceman.......well maybe not if he predicts JR Smith's endorsements are about to take off.

Lin's handlers short-sigthness compares with Hasim "Rockman" Rahman (remember him) decision to sign with Don King because King brought a $1mill in cash in a suitcase during a visit. There were other offers on the table to make Rockman bigger money long-term.  However, Rockman was blinded by the IMMEDIATE money signed with King for 1 big fight and was outa-sight-outa-mind soonafter.  Did Lin's folks get blinded by the sure money?

As an Independent  I am not influenced by a sound-bite or headlines.  Loyalty toward Lin, or his distractors will not influence me.  I have rached my position based on what is best for the Nation as a whole, (Knicks'Nation).  I will not allow one issue to determine my vote, be it a woman's right,or breaking down John Walls'ankle,(a feat accomplished by many).  However some issues carry more weight than others (same-sex $hyt, and the Miami Heat game).  As an Independent my goal to stay objective.

The Independent opinion is that the Knicks mad the right decision.   Lin has maxed out on his potential.  The league or other points will attack him and he lacks the "mental" makeup to be successful in the NBA. He lacks the physicality, and the ability to go left.  The Knicks would be wise to invest in a young point guard that jus needs to be coached up.

Let me clarify.  The point guard is to help the team get easy baskets via, steals, run-outs etc.  I continue to advocate a pass-first point.  No double talk here. My major point was young legs, a youngin.  Look at Rhondo.  He gets the Cs easy baskets by breaking down defense, steals, or geting out and running. The Knicks as currently constructed are ntathletic, or should I say tht they lack quickness.   J-Kidd will get out and run, but he looks like an elderly personon the highway in the far left lane refusing to get to the right.

He slows everyoe down.

Regarding Melo and who tells him to shoot less to make the team better.  That comes from the coach or within.  Ex. IT was averaging 24 -25 pts a game before Chuck Daley took over.  They were losers.  Daley told him that he neede to score less, and wait until crunch time to take over.  Look at IT's scoring numbers and you will see that he sacrificed to win.  Does Melo have IT in him?

Also I would let JR Smith go.  He's one dimesional and does not performwell against the top teams.

J-Kidd?  10 Years to late!!.  This is a move of desperation.  He's done.  he Net have move forward (Brooklyn), resigned Wiliams to run the point, and the Knicks have moved backwards o signing a guy that is doing is retirement tour.  This ranks up there with some of Isiah's best/worst, or Donnie signing Duhon to start.

Linsanity put the Knicks in a bind as hey attempted to serve two masters(basketball & marketing).  Never has a player cotributed so much in one aspect  while offering so little on the court.  This is the negative side of Globalization and Branding. You take losses to expand your product with the emphasis on the numbers and not your product.

The Lakers now have the Knicks' issues.  The Lakers have a star (Kobe) that needs the ball in his hands to be effective, and a point guard that needs to domiate the ball.   Kobe does not move without the ball, & has never played with a point guard that dominates the ball.  Kobe will make Carmelo look like Shawn Marion.   In addition Bynum needs touches inside so the middle willbe clogged.  We know what Chadler being in the mddle has done to Amare's game.   Mike Brown unlike Alvin Gentry will not run D'Antoni's system.  Young Buss ccould be in over his head.

Also Nash only plays one-side of the ball, offense.  Westbrook, Paul  others will dminat him on ofdominate him on offense.

Peaceman, lok for more Linsanity in the Garden.
