@MaxwellHowe @Jay31 No matter what you think of Kessel, when other players around the league see the treatment received by a guy who is an elite goal scorer, their perception of Toronto is much more negative. We should be concerned with TO becoming a less appealing destination as more of this goes on.

You'd think Toronto should easily be one of the top NHL destinations, but I don't think that's the case today.

Holzer on the top pairing? Guess the tank is officially on.

Reading the latest 30 thoughts, it's not great seeing even more confirmation of the negative perception of our media by other NHL players.. "12. Another player opinion happily shared: “You guys in Toronto are ridiculous with Phil Kessel.”

@BoneChompski Well said man. It's all about the value. In a cap world you wanna make sure you're extracting as much value as possible from your contracts.

e.g. I'm not a huge fan of JVRs defensive play this year, and think he's a 30 goal scorer only due to playing with Kessel, but I keep him because at the end of the day his contract is still great value for that.

@Savo43 @Jay31 @hometeem Agreed completely. Kids been putting up some insane points. Teams didn't wanna pick Giroux his draft year either due to size. Marner's posting better draft year results than Giroux did too.

But I wouldn't mind if we took any of the other guys. They're all solid C prospects.

@hometeem @Savo43 @Jay31 I think that changes this year. I'm thinking we're gonna walk away with one of Strome/Marner/Zacha/Rantanen

@Savo43 @Jay31 I think we'll be pleasantly surprised at the results from this year eventually, as long as we provide them with enough picks to use

Shanahan has to acquire as many draft picks as he can, I think our new scouting team could do a lot with something like 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders in this draft. One first rounder of our own, one from dealing Franson. One second rounder from Santorelli, 2nd and young roster player for Lupul.

Having 4 picks in the top 60 would be an improvement on what we tend to have most years. In this draft especially. It's a crapshoot, having more picks just ups your chances at lucking out and finding the studs.

@WB_222 @Jay31 You may not even have to keep ROR at C for too long, depending on who you draft this year. If we somehow got a guy like Strome, I see him being a guy who won't need too long to develop for example.

This year ROR's CF Rel is 3.6. Team is 3.6% better with him on the ice than off  (46.5% on vs. 43.1% off)

Of Regulars, Landeskog, Mackinnon, Johnson, Barrie  are better in this category. (Landeskog especially, team is 7% better)

Duchene's is 0.6. Basically, ROR has a better net effect than him.

For qualcomp, measured by TOI of the competition %, him and Duchene are tied for the highest on the team, with Landeskog right behind them.

Overall of the 4 players with better CFrel, Landeskog, Mackinnon and Johnson are having better years than him performance wise--Barrie has been sheltered.

If you stretch it back to 2010-2011, ROR is 4th among players with 100+ gp. Behind Landeskog, Winnik, Barrie.

ROR is pretty good. And Landeskog is a beast, wow.

@Luke_R since COL has been a poor team for most of ROR's time there its better to look at CF Rel (relative to team) than CF%.  same as when you're analyzing players on our team

@Bruffins @Hammertownleaffan isn't there anything the team can do about all the media shittalking? I guess not or they would've already. @peterbleafs 2nds are more valuable than usual in this draft. Seen many scouts say that there will be a lot of guys in the 2nd round this yr that would be first rounders any other year.

Strome, Ho-sang and 1st 2016 sounds good to me.

Strome is already a good two-way guy at age 21.

Jones package is nice too, I'd just prefer the center.

5'9 Tyler Johnson is tied for 6th in league scoring. Tampa signed him as an undrafted free agent. He's on a line with Palat, drafted 4TH LAST in 2011. And the other linemate is Kucherov, drafted in the mid 2nd round.

Together these 3 make up the most productive line so far for Tampa, a quality playoff team.

We need luck like that.
