@Unforced Error 'what we lack (as fans) in numbers, we more than make up in intellect, accomplishments and perspective'

A quick read through the comments here and I have to disagree. There are some very small minded, petty tennis fans with too much free time imo.

@Acolini I just got off the phone with Roger and I couldn't hear much he was saying, something about still having champagne if I wanted to come over and celebrate. He also said tell Acolini he's so so so sorry *burp*

@RogerRafaNole Nole is fun to watch. Not as much fun as Fed, but better entertainment than almost all the others. I'd rather watch Kei, (good) Gulbis, and Thiem has potential too, but Nole is fun to watch when he's got decent opposition. A one-sided Nole victory isn't as interesting as a Fed one imo coz Fed uses more variety. Once Nole has the upper hand, you know what's coming before it's coming and it doesn't change the outcome. Reminds me a bit of Lendl in that regard.

@MidAge Yes yes, your vapid bitter ramblings are correct. Fed would have been wise to play a Djokovic while freshly injured, lose there and and then have to pull out of DC days later. That was the right thing for him to do, so say the haters who have his best interests at heart. Such caring souls, bless them.

@Vasudha Seksaria You don't give Kei enough credit. He reached the top 8 and made the semis at WTF (losing to #1 Nole). Injury-prone or not his results and consistency have been treemendous this year.

@MNTennisFan @Rafessi @Genetica97 @lefevreplus @tennisfanQC A lot of armchair champions like to poo poo Berdych, but they lack the self-awareness to see that he's a much more accomplished, hard-working, and strong-willed person than they probably are. He's been in the Top 10 in the world at his profession for many years running. No one here can claim that, not by a long shot.

This is tennis, sometimes you just lose, badly.

Berdych's ceiling is more obvious than a guy like Stan, who's got more to his game overall. Smaller, more agile guys like Nole and Fed are better built for the style of play that wins major titles. If Berdych can't hit through them, he's screwed.

@OhYes @shetlandluckyboy Rafa has done nothing of note at the WTF, look at his record if you doubt it. He gets more credit in absentia than his record in the latter part of the year deserves. I think another absent player, Delpo, would be more dangerous at this tournament that Rafa. 2¢

It increasingly seems to me that Murray is a tennis stylist/ideologue. He wants to play a certain way and, unfortunately for him, it's not the 'best' way to play winning tennis. Similar things can be said of Federer, but his results and willingness to adapt to the circumstances prove he's more pragmatic than people give him credit for.

Lendl simplified Murray's game, made his forehand more of a weapon and his overall game more to the point. I sense a reversion to excessive cat and mouse tactics. A comparison to Nishikori is good coz he, a smaller less powerful player, actually attacks and serves better than Murray.

Go Nishikori!

It's just arrogance and/or disappointment talking. If he gets a chance to play he'd be wise to do so. The experience can only be good for him. His statement seems based on the assumption that he'll qualify automatically in years to come. It remains to be seen if that will be the case. If it is, the experience of playing as an alternate will help him down the line, if it's not... well, at least he played as an alternate in 2014. I think he'll qualify at some point, but there's no guarantee. Injuries, loss of form, illness, anything can happen, just ask Soderling, Delpo, Gaudio, etc. Tennis can be a cruel sport sometimes, he might never make it.

@ivo @vikki good Good on Petra for reciprocating the noise. I don't like playing overly loud opponents, it seems like a way to dominate the space and rhythm of play. There are valid reasons (exhale through contact, etc), but beyond a certain point it's just annoying noise, extra incentive to ratchet up the intensity in opposition to all that howling.
