Yes, you are a 'lightening rod' of the comments section. Congratulations.

Bouchard also lost. The site seems almost embarrassed to mention it. Perhaps someone can start a snarky 'Bouchatd lost' meme.

"It was comparable to a rank journeyman beating Andy Murray in his first match at Wimbledon, or a qualifier taking down Roger Federer in his opener in Basel."

LMFAO, actually it's nowhere near comparable. Andy Murray has won grand slams and Fed has won a few himself. Genie has won... I dunno, one small tournament I think. She's done well in th Grand slams, but she's yet to win even one and is not in the same league as the players you're trying to group her with.

Puhlease.

I just remembered how quick some ppl were to describe Petra's play in the Wimby final as 'unplayable', 'no one could have beaten her that day' in a thinly disguised attempt to draw attention away from how badly Genie adjusted during the match to a bigger hitting opponent. I don't see so much of that now, now the culprit is 'home crowd pressure.' Fair enough, but there's a pattern emerging already, with regards how her fans deal with adversity moreso than the player herself.

@yazzzycosmo @KomboChapfika I hear you, but the fact is she's lost 3 of her last 5 sets 6-0. She'll likely stop the slide, but still, the fact remains. And there is a precedent for a an inexorable slide like this... beware the ghost of Gaudio...

@Paul Goldberg Bouchard is better compared to Raonic or Dimitrov. She's not on the same tier as Fed, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray on the ATP, or SW, VW, Maria, Vika on the WTA. The hype machine has been so eager to anoint her onto to their level when she simply is not there yet and there's no guarantee she ever will be.

The WTA and the media don't choose the champions, that's a distinction  earned on the court by winning grand slams.

@Hartt @lolwhat "No adjustments Bouchard could have made would have made any difference." - That's not a fact, we don't know that. What we do know is that she made no adjustments. Not even something as basic as taking a step back to receive first serves.

Mentally tough players note what's going on in a match and adjust in the heat of battle, especially when things are going badly. An example would be Michael Chang throwing in tons of off pace shots vs. Lendl, or Fed using short slices against Delpo. Bouchard made no adjustments whatsoever and got bagelled for her mental rigidity. She should just be grateful it was best of three, because another set would have been no better. That said, she came one match away from winning a grand slam, but came badly unstuck against a true power player, the kind she'd avoided throughout her draw.

The bandwagon needs repairs. You can almost hear the media slugs praying for the cute one to be better than the rest.

Take a seat please. We are all free to discuss whatever you want. I have no problem with women earning more than the men. If they're generating the revenue then they've earned it. Why isn't there equal prize money between NBA & WNBA? Beyond any organizational borders, the core reason is because more people watch the NBA, and so it generates greater revenues, and as a result the players earn more.

@RageIssues that's nothing 'logical' about describing a 6-3 6-0 plastering as 'One fantastic tennis player handily beat another fantastic tennis player'. One of them was fantastic, take a guess, use your so-called logic. The character assassination stuff is overdone, but so is trying to diffuse it by ignoring the obvious gulf in class between the players we witnessed.

@tennisfan2331 @emilywilds Yeah. Bouchard didn't adjust very well to Petra's pace. In most of her matches she has more power than her opponents. She had way to play to when she wasn't dictating the majority of points. I think Halep, with her guile, movement, and more variety could have disrupted Kvitova's rhythm a bit more. And then get bagelled.

Well played Kvitova! She was in the zone and Bouchard's aggressive court positioning got bagelled. When Kvitova plays near her best level, she can be unplayable.
