Cally's agent did a horrible job negotiating. He started out too high which made Sather not take things as seriously and made him more inclined to move him. Girardi's camp did a much better job since it did not play out nearly as much in the media. Which likely means they started high but not ridiculous and Sather was likely more willing to negotiate.
If the negotiations weren't as sour, maybe Sather gives a little more on the ntc. That's the way I look at things

maybe i'm just still depressed from the two losses over the weekend, but I'd rather see them trade him.. They need to get new players in here. I just fail to see how more of the same from the current core is going to yield championship results. I'm not suggest blow it up and complete overhaul but there needs to be some significant change
5 days, 3 hours ago on Callahan Softening on Contract Demands?; Rangers Talk Hemsky
as currently constructed this team is not built for playoff success. they can't beat the elite teams. trade him and get the best deal you can get..
6 days, 5 hours ago on If Rangers Can't Re-sign Callahan By Trade Deadline They May Not Deal Him
I actually believe Girardi when he says he wants to work something out because unlike Cally negotiations there has been a lot more open dialog and it seems like both parties want to work something out. I'm hoping he does sign but we'll see how it goes...
1 week, 1 day ago on Rangers Interested in Kesler; Girardi Wants to Stay
until i hear Marc Staal is practicing, I'm worried. Why is it always him....
1 week, 4 days ago on Staal Remains Out With Back Spasms
I really can't see why Tampa would do it.... They're gonna trade their best playmaker who's signed through next year for a second/third line rental and I don't see why the Rangers would want to trade draft picks and prospects in addition because I still don't think the Rangers would be a legit cup contender after the deal...

glad i'm not the only one who noticed team Sweden sticking up for Hank more than the Rangers lol

Hags had 2 goals against Slovenia so looks like nothing to worry about for him.

looks like Jags might wan to try harder. Sweden's up 2-0 :)

I get the feeling that Sather will wait till after the break to decide on Cally. The Pens game should be a good measuring stick for the Rangers and where they measure up with the best teams

1 month ago on Callahan, Rangers to Talk Contract This Week; Multiple Teams Calling With Interest
anything over 5 years is not worth it. It is better long term for the Rangers to trade him at this point. I think he's a great player, but he is injured too often and the numbers he puts up are never going to match the size of the contract that he's asking for.
1 month ago on Only One Team Calls Callahan; Sabres Willing to Meet His Contract Demands
I'd actually prefer the 6yr deal over the 5 just cause the cap hit is more manageable. While the length is longer than I'd like. It's at least tolerable. The extra 500k would also help with signing other pending FAs etc...
1 month, 1 week ago on Rangers Make Two Offers to Girardi; Interested in McGinn
while i wouldn't mind buying out Richards, there better be a plan to get a person to replace his point production. It needs to be one person not a bunch mediocre players. I want one playmaker that can put up 60-80 pts a season.
1 month, 1 week ago on Increase in Salary Cap May Not Be As High As Previously Projected
i would be fine with anything in the vicinity of 5years between 5 - 5.5million... preferably closer to 5. 6 and 7 years is too long and 6million+ annual cap hit is too much IMO. If they are traded however, players have to come back as part of the deal.
1 month, 1 week ago on Callahan/Girardi Seeking 7-Year Contracts as Sather Gauges Interest
I think Girardi will be fine until he's around 34. 34 or 35 I would say is the cutoff. I would not sign him past that. I'm more concerned with the dollar amount. Are you paying him as a number 2 guy or a solid number 3.
1 month, 1 week ago on Rangers Still Not Making Girardi Available
Sather will likely give him a Bridge deal which is what he has usually done for those types of players. Even more likely since Kreider's has only been good for a little over half a season so far.
The thing I would keep in mind about Duclair or any other prospect in college or overseas. They will almost certainly require at least a year in the AHL. Regardless of how great their numbers. It is important not to rush them.
1 month, 1 week ago on Prospect Update: Lindberg Scores Twice In Wolfpack Win ; Another Duclair Hat-Trick
I think if a guy like Girardi gets moved it needs to benefit the rangers both short and long term. Basically a younger guy that can still contribute to a stretch run but also has some room to grow as well as an early round draft pick/good prospect
