@FREE MASHINTER Where did I say that?
@AnnoyingJoe Gee, wonder how u got that moniker? ;)
Punchless?! Best they've looked so far. Clearly u all watched a different game. <smh>
OMG!? How do go from being the center on the #1 PP unit one day to playing for the WolfPack the next?! LMAO! Ok, let the eyebrows raising commence?! <smh>

@tygalpin @JoeNYR They didn't.
@gravey94 Nobody is saying it WAS a slew-foot. The Caps are arguing that he tried and failed to do one. I agree, no where does he actually do it.
@pkh33 Actually, Rule 59.3 DOES allow for a major, so it should've been called. And fwiw, "blood" drawing has never been in the actual rule book for any call. Just one of those understood things, and it should've applied here. No idea why.
@pkh33 Yeah, I was thinking that as well when it happened. Basically, b/c they decided to call it a cross-check, the major/blood call is not an option. Who the heck says a cross-check can't draw blood? So stupid. It should be for ANY stick-related foul, plain and simple. :(
@Iron Mike Oh yeah, THAT'S a ringing endorsement. Don't insult Derek. :(
@PenaltySh0t @MarcWeissman I disagree. You can clearly see on the last replay that, as he is falling, Derek is trying to swing his left leg under Green's. He just missed. Had Green's legs been closer together, he would've completed it. But like I said, still gives Green no right to "Dave Brown" Dorsett right across the jaw. No way!
@NH_NYR_88 @Jbianco It is. It's supposed to be an automatic 5 min major and ejection from the game. No idea why that wasn't the call last night.
I agree it was a blatant cheap shot by Green, but there is no doubt that Dorsett tried to and failed to slew-foot him. Hence, that's why it was "phantom"...because he missed. Of course, that doesn't give Green the right to take out his dentures, but the attempt was definitely there.
From Dale Rolfe being pummeled to Marc Staal being leveled by his own brother to McD being boarded, sadly this organ-eye-zation has rarely showed any sort of "come to the aid" response. Gravy for Mess is about the only example I can think of and ironically, Mark could take care of himself. As for McD, we may not be as lucky re: eventual recovery as we were with Marc's. Let's hope so. And don't count on any suspension if Shanny can't even suspend a guy for blatantly severing someone's Achilles tendon with their skate! Of course, a big <whew!> on Girardi's ankle not being broken but still, and with all due respect, why on Earth did he go down to block a shot during a penalty kill with less than 2 minutes left in a 3-zip game....facing SUBBAN, no less?!...Force of habit? Fear of being benched next game? Doing his "best" Cally-Chara imitation? The world may never know...

Great summary of the spot, James, except for one thing: Carton is a terrible "host". He was rude, unprofessional, unfunny, uninformed, unwelcoming, obnoxious and a complete a** and an embarrassment to a station already filled with non-hockey "experts" (i.e. Francesca).
Other than that, LOL, I took away exactly what you did, esp Brad's thoughts on wearing the "C."
Cally soooooo better get it. :)

I, too, have battled depression for nearly 10 years, along with GAD and bipolar. Fortunately, I have been surrounded by supportive friends and family who did not label me "crazy" and have been there to help me get better. But, then again, I am not a professional athlete whose primary job is to protect his teammates and inspire the crowd with a punch to the head while being on the receiving end of such brutality. Yes, I know this is a "man's game" and yes, I agree the physical aspect of the sport is certainly part of its appeal, but for goodness sakes, players are DYING! here. And there is no doubt and has been scientifically proved that a single blow, and definitely repeated blows, to the head can and will affect one's mental state. Just look at Ali!! These 3 men did NOT die b/c of some accidental fatal fall like Bill Masterson suffered that can be memorialized and cured with a damn trophy or jersey patch! The NHL HAS to do something more significant than spend hours upon hours tweaking rule 48 or debating the trapezoid as it so pleases if they are to seriously address this horrifying issue. Effective counseling is only part of the answer, and sadly, that only addresses the issue AFTER the fact. Something needs to be done to minimize the propensity for head injuries while play is going on or better yet, BEFORE players even take the ice. Clearly, depending on them or the coaches or management to "police" themselves or "show respect" to one another is not working, and more definitive and effective measures need to be put in place. :)
