The Magic should trade Dwight Howard... in march, when Jason Richardson is available to be traded.
I would like the Magic to trade Howard to the Bulls, for Noah and Deng, shipping Richardson and Duhon and getting Watson and picks as well... I don't know if it is realistic, but it's a good trade in my opinion.
Then contact the Bucks in order to trade Nelson for Stephen Jackson.
Wataon / Jackson / Deng / Anderson / Noah
Wafer / Redick / Turkoglu / Clark / Davis
The starting lineup is pretty decent. They can shoot 3s, play defense and the wings can attack the rim.
The bench isn't deep enough but we're not hoping the Magic will be a contender after trading Dwight, right?
Most importantly, this team should be fun to watch.

Anderson PER in 4 games is 25.4.
He would be in 4th place last season only behind James, Howard and Wade.
Obviously the Magic facing three weak teams in a row helps a lot. But I think Anderson can be a top 15 PER this season and a serious candidate for MIP.

Third straight decent game for Duhon. 6 assists and solid defensively. I like the new Duhon role of being more of a Derek Fisher point guard.
EricFarrell Yeah, but IMO the Magic would be a 5th or 6th seed in the East for years without contending or rebuilding.
But I think they are going to adjust the Hornets trade to the Magic. Getting Bynum Martin, Lee and Patterson plus picks from HOU and LAL, getting rid of Turkoglu and Duhon with Gasol going to the Rockets and Scola to the Lakers.

I really want to sleep right now...
Otis Smith is insane. There is no reason to trade for Davis and re-sign J-Rich if Dwigh is going to be traded.
Can't he understand it is time to rebuild?
Now it makes no sense to trade for Davis.
Why if you're giving permission to Dwight to talk with other teams?
Otis is really stupid.

Von Wafer included in the trade. Doesn't change anything at all.
2 years ago on Magic trade Brandon Bass for Glen Davis
erivera7 Bass is a defensive liability. His errors are critical, leading to easy baskets. Davis is a better defensive player by far.
In Orlando both won't have much the ball anyways. So I choose the better defensive player with better intangibles over the black hole, defensive schemas destroyer with better stats.
The biggest advantage in Bass' game is his jumper, but the Magic wont' benefit of such advantage with Van Gundy as head coach.
erivera7 I like your stats comparison, but I like Davis' intangibles better. He has more energy, pass the ball better and his defensive awareness is decent.
If you see last season numbers you can give a little advantage to Bass. But in the season before, Davis was slightly more productive as well.
And Dwight makes his teammates better. Why can't we see how much Davis can improving playing alongside the best center in the league?
Another thing is that I think Davis' numbers playing for the Celtics are more comparable to Bass' numbers playing for the Mavs. Both played more time as an undersized C than PF.
Big Baby is better than Bass.
He is bigger, defends better, can play C, will have almost the same salary and he actually pass the ball!!
No more "No Pass" Bass.
EricFarrell The Magic is never going to be bad defensively with SVG.
But the team won't contend without Howard. Bynum and Gasol won't change that.
I think that if Dwight really requests a trade to the Nets, the package with Brook Lopez, 2 first round picks and they getting Turkoglu is a good start. Maybe Duhon can also be traded and a third team involved.
Also, Chris Paul is probably going to be a free agent if the Hornets are not sold until the next season.
Maybe the Magic can build a young talented young team with Anderson, Lopez, Harper, Liggins, Clark, the new picks and maybe some more young talent if a third team is included, and with cap space try to get Chris Paul in the offseason.
I do prefer that than being a playoff team like Atlanta that will never be a real contender

I always read people saying Bass is a better defensive player than Anderson, but I don't agree with how they compare both in defensive schemas.
I think you have to value differently how their weak points in defense actually makes the team suffer.
Bass' poor awareness in defensive situations led the opposing team to easy baskets a lot of times in the last seasons. He did improve his awareness knowing better the defensive schemas, but not enough to diminish the impact of his poor decision in screen situations for example. When he does it wrong it's an easy basket with a high probability.
Anderson does lack lateral quickness and strength to defend in the post (he can put some weight to address the later). But he's not effortless and it won't turn into an easy basket often. Also, Dwight's defensive abilities match better in order to prevent a basket in this case.
To finish, Anderson is good defensive rebounder and Bass is sub-par.
As Bass' poor decisions will also affect the team offensively when he decides to be "No Pass" Bass, I think Anderson deserves to be the starter and be in the court for 30 minutes at least.
Earl Clark can also be a factor to diminish Bass' role in the next season. He's long, has a defensive potential, can defend in the post and I think he did a good job learning the defensive schemas last season.
