Interesting article, Ryan. I have a little bit of a mixed experience with this. I grew up in Central Florida and the Orlando Magic were formed when I was 5 years old so I became a Magic fan then. As a kid I just thought I was supposed to root for our new team. I didn't really think about it in terms of wins and losses. Obviously over the next few years that team would turn into a powerhouse and one of the most popular in the NBA so it was a good thing I was already a fan as a child. I've been hooked to Magic basketball ever since.
Counter to that is my history with football. My family is originally from Washington DC and so they are all die-hard Redskins fans. Initially I was too, but as a kid my favorite player in all of football was Reggie White who played for the Green Bay Packers. Soon I started to watch Packers games more intently than Redskins games and then obviously that Packers team ended up winning a Super Bowl. Once Reggie was gone from the team I had to consider whether I was a Packers fan but I just couldn't turn away and now that's what I'll be until I die or the team goes away (the former will probably happen first).
If the Magic moved away I'd be extremely heartbroken and I honestly don't know what I would do. I love basketball too much to stop watching but I have no idea who I'd turn to. I guess the logical thing would be to follow the Heat but that would feel like ripping my soul out.

Great piece. This'll get shuffled a lot when the other guys come back obviously. It'll be cool if we can revisit this piece then.

LOL, now Tobias just needs a pet name like Gogo. Tobo?

Vucci Mane is that dude. That is all I have to say.

Sadly, I missed this game and I'll have to see if I can catch a replay to see Victor's performance.

I didn't understand that ISO for Afflalo either. A co-worker of mine said, "I think Orlando thinks Afflalo is Kobe or something." Seems like that sometimes.

We were ever efficient? That's news to me. Thanks Synergy.

The problem I have with the concept of a shootaround having to take place at a certain time is that every person is different in when their mind works best. Some people are morning people and some people work better later in the day. So maybe Vaughn just felt like he would get more out of his players attention later in the day as opposed to the morning. Or maybe somehow he thinks that being on this type of cycle will give his players more energy at the end of games, which can be late in the evening.

Yeah, it really is a bummer. Hedo was a lot of fun to watch until he left. When he came back I barely recognized him. He looked so lazy on the floor and while he was always prone to throwing up a couple bad shots, some of the shots he put up when he came back were just inexcusable. For it to end that way plus the PED thing and a buyout, so sad. I'll try and remember the 08-09 Hedo.

Obviously, Dipo's rookie campaign is the thing I'll be looking at the closest this upcoming season. He was my favorite player coming into the draft and I hope he rewards my faith.

Man, that black and blue promo shot of Dipo is mesmerizing.
I'd be surprised if he wins ROY because I think the Magic will use him in a very utilitarian role that doesn't usually lead to a ROY win. But who knows, because I'm very high on him as a player coming out of college.

It's funny because even when I was younger I knew that most of the shots Tracy would take didn't seem like great shots but they would go in most of the time. Durant sorta reminds me of T-Mac in that way. They don't seem like great shots but when you take into account how pure the shooter is and the size/wingspan involved, they actually have better looks than it would appear on tape. However, my favorite thing about McGrady was when he would drive to the basket. He was just so fast and powerful it didn't seem like anyone could stop him. He was like the stopgap between a Jordan-type scorer and a LeBron-type scorer. He wasn't quite as skilled as Jordan and he didn't have the power of LeBron but he sat somewhere in-between.

Great piece, Spencer. I was not coming in expecting a three way McGrady/DiMaggio/Keats comparison but you brought it together.
I can never really explain Tracy's abilities. He had so much power and speed but was also really lanky and it never seemed like he should've been able to do those things.
6 months ago on Tracy McGrady and unaccountable greatness
I think this game says less about Tracy's ability to score efficiently and more about how much the Magic had to rely on him to get any wins in those days.

Fantastic story. It definitely sells me on O'Quinn, who was a player I already liked.

I'm really surprised at how well Doron Lamb is playing. He really didn't impress me much last year but he definitely looks like he's been working hard in the offseason. Actually it looks like all of our players have been working hard and that's a great sign. Nicholson seems to have improved his passing, Lamb has improved his body and shooting looks good, Harkless has worked on his strength and thus far I'm very impressed with Oladipo even though he didn't have a good shooting game here.

My favorite player is Oladipo and deep down I wish he ended up on the Magic. But I think they should take Burke for positional need and because I think he'll be one of the better players at the top.

@shapentra Since Hennigan was so wary of Bynum because of knee concerns I'm curious how he feels about Noel. Guess we'll find out.

I'm super stoked for the draft this year even though it's a "down year" because Rob has made so many decent moves thus far.
