As always the way thru the WC looks soooooo formidable at the start of season that I'm usually very discouraged...but logically the Spurs are stronger this year than last when they had the Championship in hand with 28 seconds, who were stronger than the year before when they were up 2-0 in the WCF before losing to OKC.  I actually think the KEY issue for us (other than our perennial health concerns): will our usual superior playoff game plan be less effective this year now that Pop's top 2 assistant's are gone?

@FranzA Isn't that the truth! I think MY hook shot looks better and I don't even play bb.

@Spursfan66 @slapdoghoops I predict NO drop off...his game is predicated on feel, positioning, smarts and skills.  He's really taken care of his body so barring injury, he shouldn't be any less athletic.

I think we're kinda numb to this "too old" talk.  They've attempted to  frighten and discourage us for so many years with the drumbeat of talk that we'll be lucky to even make the playoffs, we should tank the season, blah-blah, that now we just shrug anybody's else's predictions.   We just trust Pop and the Big 3 to give us a fighting chance every year....and almost without exception, they've delivered.

Isn't "center" the category of player where there's possibly the largest collection of "great potential to be a star, but too hurt to be effective" types???   Whether from Bill "Dr Scholls" Walton to now Andrew "Mr. Hurrycane" Bogut, the list wannabe all stars is large, no?

Hmmm, 66...hadn't really thought about the "brain drain" on the Spurs.  Talk about your unspoken negative "X" factor for an otherwise solid team.  We've never had this problem before with the seemingly abundance of high quality assistant coaches, PJ, Bud, Vaughn, etc.

And he remembering who's paying him 9 million a year to be at his best....good for him. Finally a foreign player that realizes that.

I actually think the FO is doing a good job preparing for the Big 3 sunset...

1. focusing on winning NOW, a real chance to now blow the way Dallas did by milking every bit of competitiveness out of the big 3.  I mean, wasn't it GREAT to be on national TV playing in the finals versus being anyone of the other 26 (?) teams sitting at home watching someone else in the finals???

2. Modestly upgrading along the way with solid not spectacular youth (KL , CJ, TS, Baynes, etc).

3. And keeping payroll flexibility to be able to either pay for proven talent (KL definitely plus any other player that warrants an upgrade in contract salary) or really throw money at big potential FA.

Actually is rather admirable how we have a foot in all three ponds at the same time so to speak. Let's count our luck for such a admirable situation, yes?
