Finally someone willing to take on the Lucic monster. Can't possibly do less than Pyatt or Pouliot and if so he can still fight the monster.

Imagine that Hank is still playing for that little paycheck.
Kreider looks like Jim Brown running over players in 1960's and I can't wait for a end to end rush by Zuccarello. Are the Rangers paying some of those guys on 3rd and 4th line and why is Richards on point on PP when he seems to score all his goals down low? Truthfully he scare me back there.

Cap + smart GM = Good teams
Cap + NY GM's + or Money = Rangers, Knicks , Jets, Nets, Mets...well you get the picture. Islanders in their own world of problems.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne I'd take Matt Martin in a second. Pretty tough guy and is a not bad player and good enough to play on the PK. Just the type of player the Rangers need. Doubt the Isles would trade him, tough guy who can play.

Pyatt in for Pouliot playing with Hagelin, and Brassard. That should spark both of their games.
This goes with my prior post whether you think Hank deserves the money and years or not is not the problem. Teams have to give top players money no matter what, but going into a season with Pyatt,Pouliot, MDZ etc....
The way the cap is a team needs a smart GM that can find quality support to fit in with top players money. Time will tell if Hank is worth the money but it won't mean shit without the right support personal like now and that comes down to the GM

If the cap hit were to hamstring the Rangers one would hope they would be forced to dump useless veterans and contracts and not sign useless players with overpriced contracts. Maybe having or finding big, fast, tough kids who can play in the lineup or quality for the money could be a new option for Mr Sather to undertake if he is still here or it is not to difficult for him.

@LanceGold1 @DaveFL I think also just as important on the D There is just no one back there that would strike fear in anyone. I give credit for Falk trying but he is just not that kind of player. Like the the forwards on the Rangers they have a lot of the same type players. They need a little variety and soon.

If i remember correctly when the Rangers acquired Clowe last year and in one of the first games he played he punched crap out of Engelland and then the Rangers walked all over the Pens but then Clowe got hurt and fast forward to the playoffs and the fear of the Lucic monster.
Some would argue that the Wings and Hawks get it done without a real physical presence but i think they get collectively get stronger when teams get physical where as the Rangers then seem to deflate. It may seem simple but a physical player with some skill is difficult to find and i think they need right now 2 position players to have chance.
Many would say this is 500 team I would say with the cap the way it is designed it makes it 500 league and I think Rangers need the above to get that edge.

I wonder if Tortorella looked out on the ice and thought if i only knew these guys could make a couple of passes in a row and I was sure glad to see him TORTuring some player on some other team. The physical presence the Rangers need i think they found, they can just keep beating on teams with Boyle's face and those Vancouver guys were nothing compared with that Lucic monster they escaped from in Boston. Even though i would love to see Bieksa in NY and right handed shot no less.

@shoot_the_goalie Personally hoping MDZ can be moved as soon as possible but it did make me feel good about being Ranger fan to see his teammates really being happy for him.
Pouliot, Pyatt and Hank in the game and the Rangers win nice...... Watching here in Florida where it seemed like there were more Ranger fans and a continuous LGR chant just leads me to inevitability of the Panthers moving with their lack of success and lack of interest in developing local hockey. 20yrs and they still only have 5-6 rinks in SE Florida as opposed to somewhere like Dallas with in the same time frame and has 17 rinks.
The Rangers didn't necessarily play well but what they did do is make the Panthers pay for mistakes i.e. power play, breakdowns and shooting through screens. This is something I think has really lacked this season and if it can be done with consistency could make the difference this season.
On another note, Kevin I want to thank you for the blog and providing this fan who is out of state with much needed hockey therapy.

I don't know about everyone else but i am really enjoying watching this team play. Out playing, out skating, out shooting the Habs, Kings, and Bruins in a row Granted the Bruins had a back to back but still shutting down their top 3 lines....crazy Who would even of thought they could play like this month or so ago. Yes it is TORTure not seeing them score but they have not been a team that is accustomed to finishing for quite a few years and even finishers who come to Rangers seemed to decline. With the new way they are playing I think maybe they are not use to the concept of having a lot of opportunities and hopefully they can adjust mindset to finding the back of net.

@Say my Name @gravey94 Sadly Nash had his chance in the playoffs last year and backed off when Lucic challenged him. i think it could have changed things if he didn't back down and of course survive the sub human, but the Rangers seemed deflated after that. I am sure Nash had all summer to think about it and I said this before i think he was playing with little anger in the beginning of the season.
I agree on one hand one would like to see Nash take it to the sub human for his past transgressions on the other hand the Rangers need Nash healthy.

I like the odds of Zuccarello in Chara or Lucic's face at sometime in the game or I guess maybe their stomachs.

A fluke goal in1-0 loss to the big bad Kings with I guess tired legs which will always lead to some sloppy play the Rangers were still in it till the buzzer, not bad and if they could only finish...
I have said this before and last night it was really evident with a Billion dollar renovation and sixty million dollar product on the ice and it is still awful......mind boggling. I saw the pucks bouncing, sticking and hitting invisible objects. For years you could ask any player or ex-player what the worst ice is and the answer would be MSG. Granted the Kings had to play on the same ice, but only once this season. With our new speedy, puck possession Rangers one has to wonder.

@johnnyb3910 @danblackburn Funny when the Rangers are interviewed about Talbot they use words like "quiet""calm" confident". I may be wrong but with Hank you usually hear how he kept Rangers in the game, saved them etc... not the former.

I have to admit it still all seems a little unreal to me. Shutting down a skating team like the Habs with speed, puck movement and again shots, looking in the net and seeing someone other than Hank quietly just going about his business shutting out a NHL team is like another day at work. Am I dreaming about flying Rangers, WTF happened to this team over the last couple of months.

Playing Devils, whenever or with whoever they have is always going to be tough and especially with "Fatso" in the net, (I add that for Zurrarello who is added #16's play to his resume), who has been between the pipes for a long time for a good reason. The Rangers who controlled long stretches of the game have to finish when they get chances or be subjected to the odd breakdown, bad goal or bounce. Same for the power play, got to finish. Also where is the traffic in front of the old pipe master. Is Zuuccarello going to be the only and biggest example?
On another note is it me or do the 4 line guys on other teams always do the Rangers in?

Outside our disagreement on Pyatt I am liking the way AV is using his players, of course being a fan that could change the next game.
He is rewarding deserving players like Dorsett and Boyle with ice. Sits a player like Pouliot who one can understand why teams wanted him on one play and than another play why they got rid of him but than comes back with the player instead of TORTuring players like what's his name did last year or keeping lines together and giving them chance or seeing some chemistry accidentally and rolling with it. Adjustments like breaking up MDZ and Moore last night. Good stuff.... .
Though Kevin, I would like to see him take a chance and give Mash a little more time

@gravey94 Totally agree, I think he sent important message to his OWN team that their not going put up with anything at least when he is on the ice. Worth more than a win or a goal when building a team. The better this kid gets the more room he is going to need to afford himself and teammates.
That is the a thing i like about him and Miller, they play with edge, I don't think that they are dirty but with their skill sets they still both get in and mix it up. A nice direction to take the team
