10/7/14 | 8:10AM: At practice yesterday, the Rangers used the following lines (Ranger Rants):

  • Chris Kreider, Marty St. Louis, Rick Nash
  • Carl Hagelin, Derick Brassard, Mats Zuccarello
  • Anthony Duclair, JT Miller, Lee Stempniak
  • Tanner Glass, Dominic Moore, Jesper Fast.

Maybe I watched a different team in preseason or I don't see things correctly but I thought for first time watching Nash he had some chemistry with someone here and that was the wonder Duke and what was wrong with Krieder with Zuc and Brassard. Also didn't Miller look good with his homeboy Malone and also Hagelin ......Ahh maybe i need glasses.

The one thing that really impresses me about Duclair is that his line mates in each game really seem to take off and you could see what Haggerty can do without a Tarnaski on his line and speaking of chemistry Zucc looked like his old self with Brassard and Kreider while Miller looked a little like he was trying to hard to cater to those guys but you got love 7 of 10 faceoffs wins.

After hearing about no prospects for so long this seems like a alternate Rangers universe and one with a possibility a future.

Love to see Miller, Duclair and Nash play one game together preseason with Brassard, Zuc and Krieder making room for those guys and then Haglin, MSL with the kid Mueller or Lombardi then rounding it up with Moore, Glass and Stempniak or Malone

Fuck.. an all out track meet

And still got the kid Hayes, Lindberg and hrvik  and then the Russia kid is coming next year......It seems only like last year I was being tortured by the name Pyatt

Big Miller fan, I think he has a lot tools and only 21. Last season if he had played a whole season and scored at the same rate he probably could have been 3rd in scoring in AHL  His numbers in the show I think are skewered because of playing time shortened during games or being scratched, I am also rooting for him and maybe another kid or two to make it. I think having couple young guys on the team pushes the vets and vice versa.

I could also see Malone on the 4th line, It would give the line skill with some grit.

Maybe Dolan can ask the other 7 teams to chip in and help pay for a live feed of the tournament in Traverse City, I mean considering how much he spent renovating and paying Phil Jackson, Carmelo and  buying out the Richards contract and little profit he makes from cable, tickets, food, product concessions, advertising etc..he might be hurting.

Whatever this team lacked it made up with heart, fight and resilience.

A class team that made me feel good about being a fan and I guess the one thing about going so far would be that at least hockey is right around the corner.

I personally would like the Rangers to go back and beat the Bruins so that the Rangers could have knocked off every whining ,scumbag team in the league.

I have said this before, this team and coach of castoffs, guys not being believed in, not living up to expectations have overcame whatever weaknesses, setbacks and so on ( many pointed out here daily myself included) in a way that you  could respect and which makes you really feel good about being a Ranger fan.

I think with all the story lines and the way the team has carried itself, if you are a hockey fan anywhere you would want to root for them unless of course you were fan of those previously mentioned.

Funny all those years in Tampa, leading scorer, cup winner and etc.... and with that shot last night I feel St Louis became a Ranger for life.

Boyle use have trouble grappling with one guy and last night he is pushing three guys around , I think winning that one fight was great for his confidence.

Nash for the Selke Trophy?

Boy I wish that kid Miller could catch a break.

The garden ice looked horrible, the puck was bouncing, sticking, I personally feel the Rangers might be better off skating on the Canadian ice with their speed and skill...... Wow never thought i be saying that after the last couple years.

Fire Sather and get rid of the Coach......Sorry last year's rant, at least i feel good about one those comments.

You have to love the cool and collected guy, granted he is winning but he has been like this all season and same with the players they both took responsibility when things went bad in the season and also in the playoffs.

This other guy and his team and their bitching and pointing fingers are going to give Adam Oates and Ovie a run for their money.

It is a strange time of year for a fan each game more stressful than the last and the Rangers sure give you your games worth of stress and severe depression knowing the season's end is looming yet this is what you want and what look forward to all season. That being said I can only reprint something I wrote a month or so ago and add to it conference finals instead of 2nd place.

It is funny I look around the league and see teams supposedly built to win with size, speed, grit, draft picks or a drafted superstar and etc etc..... and then I look at the Rangers and I see literally a bunch of castoffs, castaways or players not believed in and here they are in 2nd place in the division now. And what disturbed me in the beginning of the season is really starting to appeal to me as characteristic of a team.

Superman and I mean superman he is everywhere discarded by the Montreal. a little guy from Norway, another little guy a hall of fame guy disrespected by his gm, top goalie overlooked in the draft, a terrific backup from the only D1 school in south,  Top D-man not even drafted ,  Top college pick last years coach gave up on, a group of #1 picks given up on including Nash and Boyle who maybe the biggest wingspan pk duo since the  Samuelssons,  a cup MVP who couldn't even skate last year, a 4th line center out hockey a year, a coach who almost won a cup and then discarded for maybe a crazy man. A defense man without 100% vision and couple of other castoffs at d.

Who would of thought this was a recipe for winning but if these castaways believe they have something to prove like Zuccarello did from day one and come together like they did the last few games for a run this could be interesting.

I think at tomorrow's skate the coach should just drop a bag of pucks  in front of the empty net and have all the players just shoot into it and get them use to where it is, the size of it and the feeling of the puck going into the net.

Under the TORTurer they had success making the the playoffs the majority of seasons and 1 game from the finals and you rooted for team and team came together because of the fucked up system.

They survived, scratched, grinned out, Hank standing on his head wins like underdogs from a movie but after awhile it wears you out as I am sure as a player it did and I still believe even with the successes they had they were headed in the wrong direction with that type of hockey but then again I was use to that being a Rangers fan.

AV shows up with exciting, creative, fast and very enjoyable type of Hockey and think I am in the wrong city. He has patience when I want to trade, bring up players, change lines.... WTF do I know except I am still wondering about the Pyatt thing. He's been around and adapts, he was nasty defense man in the minors and the few games in the show, he ran a defensive system in Montreal and speed and offense game in Vancouver and with years of winning, so here's to more of that and little bit extra.

The cast offs, could of a beens and who would of believed while lacking toughness  produce a 2nd place, playoffs, most road wins, balanced scoring, terrific goal tending and solid D and Gary Coleman's old friend believes they have a chance at the Cup and who wants to argue with him and chance getting speared.

Like Fast and hope he can wheel old man Richie around in the playoffs and get him to right place to score. I think the D stepped up in superman's absence and the grit Girardi showed last night I hope is what saved for the playoffs. MSL gets hot now it could be scary and Nash is Nash but if keeps getting game winning goals it only means one thing. And what else say about  Zuccarello, Bassard and Pouliot, did some one call them the Cruise Line?

I am still confused over the Miller thing, with his AHL stats and if scored at the same pace while playing a whole season he could possibly be the leading scorer in AHL, I hope what ever he did on or off the ice to piss off AV he can correct.

I am curious about about Miller. AV ripped 21yr kid publicly "He just hasn’t earned the right to be at this level on a regular basis,” Vigneault said before the Rangers’ 3-2 shootout defeat to the Avalanche on Thursday night. “He needs to show more commitment on the ice and off. Until he does that, he hasn’t earned the right.”

What is up with that? I mean the kid tried to pick the corners and it kicked out the other way, what Ranger forward hasn't done that this year and matter of fact I commented on why these guys don't shoot the puck at the pads more though one can't argue with Stepan's goal and maybe the kid might not of shut down somebody on the back check, I guess it alright when one of 6 or 7 million dollar guys doesn't back check and costs games.

AV seemed pretty patient with guys, many getting a shot or second chance this year and it has paid off. I think Miller is talented and deserved more of chance, but it sounds like some other stuff is going on here"On and off the ice" or maybe I am reading to much into it

@Skate31I agree, If you are going to bring the Kid up to play, play him, build his confidence, coach him. I think he has the tools, he goes to the dirty areas, hits. moves the puck well and sure shoots anytime he can albeit like a lot of the guys trying to pick corners.

That being said on I wish the Rangers in general would just shoot low on the pads more often i.e. the overtime  goal the other night. What is the worst that can happen, a face off, the best big rebound. When picking corners it just seems more often then not missing and then just going the other way.

What happened to the Sens they use be such tough team to play against or is it one can hope that it was the Rangers play.

I have liked the way AV kept lines together to build chemistry but personally i am not to big on the Zuccarello, MSL and Brassard line. I  see Zuccarello and MSL as similar but not complementary and really no net presence and little bit scary without the puck in their own end and someone can correct me but seemed liked most of goals were scored on accidental line combinations..... Ah maybe time will tell but I'm not feeling it.

Speaking of lines I think that was the first night in awhile the 4th line really didn't hold up their end

Stralman should have taken the 3 million when he had the chance but on the other hand when J moore is on he is a lot fun to watch

I am sure Nash would have liked him to have been able to play in last years playoffs or be around this season, see below:

I have been one for awhile to call for a sheriff with talent for this team and my hopes were dashed at the deadline but my issue right now is that since the break they barely can make a good pass. I don't know if it was to many margaritas at the break or Callahan leaving or that teams with the race to the playoffs are tightening up and forcing the sloppy play but it unbelievable considering how well they were moving the puck before the break.

I never though of Nash as the second coming of Adam Oates but WTF...can he make a pass, Stepan can he not to be to cute with the puck, Richards maybe with St Louis back is having torts flashbacks and thinking it's last season. What happen to the super Stall before the break, I know he has been left out to dry by a shitty backcheck but  WTF is he hurt or what? and on and on.

To me Zuccarello and Mcdonagh are the only consistent players this season game in and game out but if the rest of these guys can't clean up their play....well

One thing is apparent St Louis really knows how to play hockey and in both ends and hopefully that rubs off on others, especially his friend and other guy making north of 6 million in their own end.

Is it me has Stephan got slower or everyone is faster, he starting look like a small Boyle. Crazy as it is I love to see Miller get a chance at center.

They needed Zuccarello back to protect them from the big bad Bruins and Philly.

I found it interesting that 5 of the 700 goal scorers were on the Rangers but none were on or helped win a cup. I guess odds were tough with only one cup over 75yrs.  Management thinking?

I really have enjoyed the style of play this year for the most part and i think if they are on they can beat anybody but they will have go through the Bruins or Pens to get anywhere and both can be nasty and have playoff 4th lines that can deliver.

Moving Cally now might what is needed to get somebody that can help you with that problem. I loved his play since Renney fucked with him but I don't see his body holding up 5-6yrs with his style of play. Here Sather maybe has a chance to build a team that go somewhere this playoff run and possibly build for the future or is that to unlike the Rangers management?

Oh maybe throw Boyle in too..

I liked Callahan since the first day that Renney fucked with him, but here the Rangers as club are in a position to move a player who may or may not be on downside and pick up assets and somebody they could really use i.e. Stewart and build instead of being the team who dumped their assets and got the big contract guy who ended up on downside of his carreer. I am sure Ranger fans can remember a few of those..

I think Rangers had the big advantage playing outdoors since they are use to the crappy ice at MSG.

I think if Rangers do ever trade Callahan they should make Zuccarello the captain and if they want move Girardi they should just find a bigger version of Kevin Klein for about 3 million plus.

I don't really see anybody giving this guy credit so I'll say it again this coach with what he working with has them playing pretty consistent hockey for about 2 months and the type hockey that is for first time in long time enjoyable to watch. Wow the Blues look like linebackers on skates. Just imagine if JD was here last 5-6 years.

Did Torts sneak in and help with the PP last night.

Did they have a 4 line last night? Maybe Torts again?

I think garden was so quiet I could hear Kevin Shattenkirk family and friends cheering on TV.

I think outside a couple glaring or Girarding mistakes, they had their chances and didn't finish against a tough defense.

That being said I do think they need a 4 line that can make a difference in games like last night.  That has some size and talent, I won't include Boyle because he has to be the smallest 6'7 player there could be possible who seems to spend a lot of time on the ice which would make him about a foot tall.

I' m sorry I got to give credit where credit is due and that is to coaching.  I was ready to blow up this team a couple times and other times amazed how well they played but lately the consistency of play especially defense of different teams and decision making with puck is showing me that they are well prepared. They controlling games, putting big numbers of shots up and exciting to watch.

This guy had the patience to work with and stick with the guys he had and I am still traumatized by the Pyatt experiment.  He had the balls to play a rookie goaltender while sitting a just sighed big contract goalie. He has them playing aggressive on both ends of the ice all game.  Some may see a lack of passion but the guy is going about his business and getting results.

I still think they could use a Clowe or Lucic type who can play and protect and as fan i reserve the right to be a asshole and change my mind but right now hats off to AV.  He is making this team very enjoyable to watch.
