Fav. MSTI moment: the "diagram" of Hong Chih Kuo's trip to the DL.
So was Puig playing baseball out there or this:

So after Kershaw's recent mastery, was reminded of one of my fav. Koufax quotes.

morning Brim. How close was Kershaw to that CGSO?
21 hours, 33 minutes ago on Dodgers 2, Braves 1: Oops
nah. this isn't the year for stat chasing with the missed time.
maybe another year when he's had the benefit of a full season and one where he somehow avoids the melt-down game that EVERY pitcher, even the elite ones, will experience in at least one start per season.
21 hours, 34 minutes ago on Dodgers 2, Braves 1: Oops
well tonight was an example where that last inning was a higher stress affair. in the end, I'm glad HE got to finish what he started, on its own, no issue. but I would not like to see his next ten starts finish in the same manner.
and there is no risk to messing up his groove. the occasional extra day of rest due to a team off-day is welcome even for routine-driven guys like Greinke. Kersh and Greinke got extra rest around the All Star break and they appear just fine.
lastly, Kershaw will have a low inning count "for the season" but if he's tops in innings from May on by a large margin, then it makes no difference, he will be worn down.
and a meaningless late September Kershaw start will be like a 5 innings, with a September call up cleaning up the rest so no spooking his routine.
21 hours, 37 minutes ago on Dodgers 2, Braves 1: Oops
the 1.12 ERA is a meaningless stat to chase because the pitcher's mound was 4 feet high in 1968 and "advances in medicine" to "aid sluggers in injury recovery only" did not exist.
22 hours ago on Dodgers 2, Braves 1: Oops
"lets assume that off days create enough space for him to get 11"
NO, LET'S NOT ASSUME THAT.
You want Kershaw fresh for the playoffs.
So let's assume he only gets 9 more starts since the division will be clinched by the 3rd week of September

Beckett is one of the more intriguing Dodgers to me because if the season ended today, he would be slated to pitch a game 4, if necessary.
I will never forget his no-hitter and until this hip issue showed up, he pitched well enough to keep the team in the ballgame more times than not.
I'd be all for putting Beckett on the DL after this 8/3 Sunday start against the Cubs to get more PT time in so he can help get the team to the middle of September.
Sub in someone else in his start against the 8/8 Brewers.
Sub in someone else in his start against the 8/13 Braves.
So when Beckett comes back, here's what his cream puff schedule will look like:
1. 8/19 Padres
2. 8/24 Mets
3. 8/31 @ Padres again
***WAIVER WIRE DEADLINE***
4. 9/6 Diamondbacks
9/11 Team Day Off ---> Skip Beckett in the rotation
9/12-9/14 vs SF (no Beckett appearance)
5. 9/16 @ Colorado
6. 9/21 @ Cubs
9/22-9/24 vs SF (no Beckett appearance)
7. 9/27 Colorado (second to last game of the season, may be meaningless)
After this Sunday's start, IF YOU DL Beckett (that is the key) and he can come back (probably more important), you are counting on just seven regular season starts from Beckett, possibly less. If the Dodgers clinch by the middle of September, then you only needed 4 starts out of him and then the last few starts will just be an audition for a postseason start; hopefully he passes and will be ready to go for one game 4 start in the NLCS.
And this doesn't factor whether an "Edison Volquez from 2013" -type shows up prior to the waiver wire deadline.
It's no secret Beckett's days in Dodger blue are numbered so why not put him in the best position to succeed by shutting him down one more time and let Maholm (gulp) or Red Patterson (meh) cover for him during the dog days of summer?
Pros: we get to see whether either has anything-- in Maholm's case, anything left. In Patterson's case, anything promising.
Beckett gets one last shot (literally if it involves cortizone) to see if his hip can hold up.

A.J. took a bad foul pitch to the knee, had to play with lots of discomfort the last 3 innings of tonight's contest.
I hope he gets the rest of the weekend off Fri-Sun.
So you just may get your wish.

it can improve with rest depending on whether or not the labreal tear is minor or severe. as far as the information we know, it's an "impingement" NOT an "avulsion"
comparing that to metastisized lung cancer is a leap when you don't know the degree of the tear. I heard multiple times "hip impingement."
you CAN come back from THAT by strengthening the muscles around the hips, getting PT, and minimizing rough wear so that it is manageable. If he's not further damaging his hip and so long as the pain doesn't cause him to alter his pitching, he can go.
So say you skip two Beckett starts and replace that with 10 innings of Red Patterson. Beckett gets no fewer than two weeks to daily rehab, get his legs stronger and do no further damage.
he has the best access to doctors / surgeons and can opt for surgery in the off-season also.

perhaps The Gif'in' Hawaiian.

At the rate Kershaw is going, he might have the Cy Young wrapped up by 9/1.

he's probably working on it in between bites of loco moco and spam musubi
he's Mr. Jennifer Lawrence a.k.a. The Beast
shoulda brought the outfield in and had 4 shortstops today.
No outs recorded by an OFer? u sure, @KMT59?
ouch, Butera it is. I'd give A.J. the entire series off, see if he can go Monday.
Or DL him and bring up.... gulp.
literally an inch away from a CGSO.
a W is still a W.
Kershaw is 3/5 away from another Cy.
I'm glad he got a chance to finish what he started.

I'm so over #HugWatch,
Scherzer, Sanchez, Price, Porcello, Verlander

Cole Hamels won't be put on waivers.
another team with a worse record than the Giants will claim him
maybe someone can convince him he can close the 8th inning
shorter alternate version: Dodgers sweep the Cardinals.
This was a team that started Skip Schumaker in CF last year so keep those eyes peeled
baby! don't you start with that nonsense.
maybe one throwback Beckett performance in the NLCS is what I'm hoping.
The Dodgers can just make moves internally.
Paco and Dominguez for Maholm and Perez.
Red Patterson for 2 serviceable starts to rest Beckett's hip if necessary.
Joc a September callup and let him play everyday once the division is clinched.
This is too good to be true. I have my rose-colored glasses on today.
okay that makes sense
Yes Price is a significant upgrade over Smyly.
Scherzer, Price, Sanchez in a short series will be tough.
But now you have to pick between Verlander (2014 version) and Porcello for a game 4 and it will be Verlander.
The Rays should have insisted on Porcello over Smyly.
Glad the Dodgers didn't gut the farm for Price.
1 day, 12 hours ago on Congratulations, You Survived the Deadline
that was fhe best deadline deal since SPR
he's not, that's why he was first on the list.
Lackey won't do diddly in the postseason
1 day, 12 hours ago on Two Hours To Go
Lackey, Lester, nor Price, nor Lackey would have guaranteed a World Series.
Not super excited about a potential Game 4 Beckett start in the playoffs but I'm glad the Dodgers did not get fleeced and kept their best prospects at the deadline.
Price to the Tigers!
Wait, that wasn't it?
Lester can just re-sign with Boston after the season is over.
What was Oakland thinking???
Cespedes in Fenway's left field? holy moly...
