Umm, didnt she play Azarenka in the 3rd round and then the defending Indian wells champion Penneta in 4th round at Indian Wells?

Serena will meet either Azarenka or Halep in the semis not the first few rounds. Besides does any current player(apart from Venus) have a remotely healthy win loss record against Serena?

Go Nicole!

I see Serena Vs Venus in the finals. It may go anyway, depending on Serena's health and motivation

Big 3 or 4 concept is quite recent, maybe 5-6 years old. that was the time when Djokovic and Murray were rising and Rafa and Federer were already well established

like Steve said it best, Andy looked like he had no game plan whatsoever on the court today. Quite disappointing.

I'm thrilled to see Federer win. I just can't imagine had Federer retired by now, we would have been denied such a treat and a major transformation of Federer. I mean the net charging Federer is just new and more exciting.

I'm sure Djoko and Federer will have a great finals tomorrow. May the best man win. Although fingers crossed for Federer XD

I had written yesterday that Maria would win in 2 tight sets. People were assuming Maria's form based on last year when she was at her inconsistent best.

But this year she has shown some real consistency and winning matches in straight sets unlike last year when she was hell bent on playing almost every match in 3 sets.

Vika like I have said before, will round out in perfect form by US summer hardcourt events and will definitely challenge Serena for the US Open title.

Good luck Maria. She has a great chance to make it to the finals against Serena :)

And I must say I'm susrprised by a lot of results today

Keys losing to a struggling Jankovic

Bencic winning against the consistent Woz

Garcia winning against Ana(one step forward and 3 steps back)

Lesia(who is she?) against Cornet

Genie should reach semis, now that her draw has opened up real wide and if Sam has any good influence on her, should challenge and even beat Maria.

@softpoise Haha! you are funny. Serena will be fine. And I'm sure, Vika who has beaten Serena in the past knows how to play and win against her. So Sascha hitting with Vika would not make much of a difference, except that Vika will have more fun during practice like Serena did with him :)

i don't see Wozniacki or Azarenka beating Maria at Indian Wells. If they are judging Maria based on last years inconsistent performance then they are sadly mistaken.

Only a superior performance by Maria's opponent can beat her, else I don't see anyone stopping Maria until the finals. Looks like a Serena/Maria dominance until Wimbledon. Vika will rise at US Summer hardcourt season.

@NachiketBhagwat @Silver Shadow Federer is 33 going on 34. Federer couldnt beat Rafa consistently when he was in his prime, slimmer chances now. Roger will be net rushing and Rafa will be passing and beating down Federer's backhand.

@colin561 Yes, I believe that to be the reason why BZS gave the look to Venus. And I find it funny all the posters below fighting over who has better sportsmanship. Venus was probably lost in her hard fought victory and it didnt register to her that the loser should shake the umpire's hand first and was moving ahead of BZS, but Venus did let her opponent shake hands with umpire first. Venus and BZS are both great sportsperson. But Venus without a doubt, no one in the history of WTA can match, NO ONE.

Maria has lost to Serena 17 times. People keep highlighting this. But as Maria said that she reaches that stage where she keeps meeting Serena, and that's great in itself. How many players can say that they have met Serena so many times in their career. I think Venus is the only player

But I don't find it embarrassing for Maria to lose against Serena. I mean seriously Vika, Na and Petra have terrible record against Serena at majors and outside as well.

Serena is the best player ever. She started competing against Vicario, Seles, Graf then moved on to henin, clijsters and Venus and now playing against Maria, Vika, Petra and twinkies. Love her <3

Great match. 40+ winners by both of them and only 20 or so unforced errors. Maria surprisingly hit less double faults. Only 3 If I'm not wrong. That helped her stick around in the match.

In the second set Maria was playing catch up to Serena, never had the chance to take a lead.

Congrats to Serena!!! 19th major and counting. And my first prediction of the year has come true.

AO Serena.

FO Halep

Wimbledon Kvitova

USO Serena

Maria won't win a major this year, it's an odd year

Interesting quarters between Maria and genie. But I give an upper hand to Maria, this match will be on her racquet. Let's see what she decides to do.

Happy to see Rafa do well. Although I'm a big fan of Rog, I still like how Rafa rebounds from injuries with grit and determination.

Halep and makarova won't be that fun. I'll assume makarova will be choking

Hope Murray wins :)

@aa1704 Caro surprisingly played a bit more aggressive. She was trying to go for lines, and going for a bit too much and ended up missing a lot more than usual. Vika was unbelieveable. She was so good at the net and baseline. she had some misses which is undserstandable given her long absence from tour, but otherwise fantastic!

2nd: Caro

3rd: Strycova

4th: Garbine!!

Q: Serena

F: Halep/Maria

I mean if she wins this title. I would say she is the best player at the moment!
