@johnnyb3910@Beckfan5@Bring back Langdon@mando24179The thing working against him....

He doesn't put up as many points as most of those players

He's a little fragile

He'll be 30 next season and never put up 30 goals

He's not getting 7 years.

@johnnyb3910@Beckfan5@Bring back Langdon@mando24179Ok, lets talk the business side of it.

These are the players that Callahan will have to compete with this summer while looking for a 7 year deal;

Gaborik

Heatley

Jagr

Iginla

Stastny

Vanek

Moulson

Jokinen

Vrbata

Good luck telling me that he's not going to get paid what he's worth.

Keep in mind that Sather is known for holding his ground for what he wants and believes in when it comes to contract negotiations.

Don't be surprised if this is a ploy (and also reality if need be) to get the guys to come down in price/years in order to stay with the Rangers.

Because let's be honest, there is no way Callahan is getting 7 years on the open market considering that he averages a .5 point per game while having a hard time staying on the ice for a full season plus the playoffs.

And Girardi, who seems to also want 7 years, is not by any means going to get that either considering that for a 1st pair d-man he doesn't put up the offensive numbers and does not play an intimidating game.

11 points in 42 games played is hardly Paul Coffey.

I am happy that Del Zaster is gone. Let him try his roller hockey'esque moves with Nashville.

A. Richards is 2nd on the team in scoring and has been the 2nd best, behind Zuccarello, player on the PP this season.

B. What do you do with Brassard?

9 months, 4 weeks ago on Rangers 4, Lightning 3

@mando24179Here's the deal with Kreider, Stepan and Nash.

Nash is like Gaborik, he doesn't need a play making centerman. They create their own scoring opportunities. Kreider needs a play making centerman. He has the speed and the shot but not so much the skill to create his own scoring chances. Stepan is an overrated #1 centerman. He disappears for long stretches st a time and when that happens, Kreider slumps and Nash is left on his own to become the lone scorer on that line. Therefore Nash gets double teamed.

I'd package Del Zaster with Stepan and see what kind of return it brings back. I really feel that Stepan, although a nice player, will never be a true #1 centerman in this league.

BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if he's left off of the Team USA Olympic roster.

@AveryYesBettmanNo @Beckfan5 Don't fix it if it aint broke.

Why tinker with the lines now when they've been successful? Nash is the type of goal scorer, like Jagr and Gaborik, that doesn't need a playmaking center. If they ease him back into the lineup on Brassard's line I think he will do just fine w/o breaking up the top two lines.

@AveryYesBettmanNoAre we ready to put Zuccarello in the Hall yet? No. But now that they guy has finally gotten a chance to play with top 6 linemates, with significant minuets while producing why take him out of that rotation?

Zuccarello is the best play-maker on the team right now. Breaking up that line would be foolish.

I like some of the suggestions on this page that the others are making. I wouldn't mind seeing Nash with Brassard on the third line with maybe Miller.

YOU!! are hard on Del Zaster????

Then what am I?

"...depending on the deal, I think shipping Del Zotto out could potentially be a huge mistake that could rival the Zubov debacle."

Del Zaster through his first 250 NHL games played (4 seasons) has 24 goals, 86 assist for 110 points. He also has a total of SEVEN PP goals in that time.

Zubov, in his first 229 games played (also 4 seasons) had 41 goals, 181 assists for 222 points. He also had 21 PP goals. Not to mention he lead the team in scoring in his second season!

Now I know that Zubov played in a more offensive era and had better teammates but the two do not compare.

@KevinDeLury But I am sure that there will be certain restrictions of the touch-up icing rule.

Like if the offensive player is ahead of the defensive player at the blue line then the touch-up is negated.
