@GREENE1148 [MORE SHOTS THAN POINTS FACTION] @Jooseppi Purely hypothetical. Apply it to Ben Simmons or whoever.

@SeinfeldOKC We can play him all we want but if he's not involved there's little point. We can't have him taking 0 shots while playing the entire fourth.

@Old Man Game @Jooseppi @d21 Some teams will always be less discerning than others. Some will value what will end up being ~25 game sample more than others. Some teams might just not care about defense.

@N0tres I just don't want Russ to get injured or Ibaka to rush back. I don't want to root for the team to lose but I wouldn't be heartbroken if they missed the playoffs.

@d21 I'm very wary of what his offer is going to be. And despite what people will try to convince themselves over the next few months, it's not going to be a discount.

@Pillendreher (Lamb sacrificed for Waiters faction) As Nazr once taught us, it's not something you implement in a day. And players are typically too proud to play zone.

But we played some earlier this season.

Who really gets hurt if Towns or Okafor signed a shoe deal with Nike last August? (hypothetical)

@Old Man Game He probably couldn't.

These rookies are going to be criminally underpaid, too, when the cap jumps.

@Old Man Game I also don't want to have an excuse for Serge to rush back, given how well that's gone the past two years.

@okcjim I'm not rooting for them to lose games, but my main concern is Russ' health and I want less games for his legs to explode in.

@Old Man Game I'd see what we can get if KD's leaving (and only if we know for sure he is).. For Ibaka I'd take Towns straight up. For Russ I'd want more, both in picks and players.

@Pillendreher (Lamb sacrificed for Waiters faction) There's no solution outside of them being miraculously better defensive players overnight. That's not happening. They are just going to have to deal with getting shredded nearly every night and be happy when they aren't.

@Old Man Game If we get indications Durant isn't recovering or if he makes clear he wants to be traded this summer, I'd definitely see what return Russ could get us.

If we're all good next season then can't trade him.

@ThunderGunner @Jooseppi @Paul Pogba To Arsenal 2015 Vela was the one I heard about for years but obviously his work permit situation was different. And he turned out to be a bit of shithead anyway so no loss for Arsenal there.

edit: I might be thinking of Campbell for the work permit think but Vela is still a shithead.

@Pillendreher (Lamb sacrificed for Waiters faction) @Jooseppi Good defensive bigs are the No. 1 key to playing good defense and bad defensive bigs are the No. 1 key to playing bad defense. Perimeter defense matters too but bigs are most important.

As for that pairing, it's because 53 of those minutes were with Russ going supernova. They still played horrible defense. The pairing together has a 109.1 Defensive Rtg.

@Old Man Game I'd consider trading Russ depending on some other factors.

@Old Man Game Can't argue with the result and his impact though. He gave Russ something to think about at the rim. Blocked some shots, drew fouls, got some steals and scored 13 points on 6 FGAs.

@Pillendreher (Lamb sacrificed for Waiters faction) Yes, team defense has been terrible because we don't have any solid defensive players right now. With Ibaka and Durant out, the teams best defenders are both second year players, one of which is injured (and when he's healthy he sometimes only gets token minutes) and the other is wildly inconsistent.

But Kanter plays the most important position on defense and he's the worst in the league on defense at that position. He's a massive part of the bad defensive and the biggest single culprit.

@Old Man Game We probably win that game if Roberson plays 10 minutes. Or if Morrow takes one or two more shots. Or if Adams and Waiters made FTs. Utah had no business being in this game.

Credit to Gobert though.

@Pillendreher (Lamb sacrificed for Waiters faction) He really has. Team has been -1.0 with him on the floor by NetRtg since the ASB. Second worst on the team among rotation players.

edit: That's with playing 80+ percent of his minutes with Russ.

@ThunderGunner @Jooseppi I can see that. Also two of those guys being on Chelsea probably doesn't help perception.

It would be nice if there was a Ronaldinho type that had that extra bit of crazy to pull off and do amazing things but we don't see many Ronaldinhos.
