This actually looks pretty promising. I'm just glad they're bringing in a kicker and punter to compete with Suisham and Kapinos.
@craig.nicepickcowher I think Belichick said something similar to that when they did the 'draft grade' segment. I must agree.
I've been waiting to see this signing as soon as last years season ended. We needed a veteran WR, and he stepped in with both feet. I do believe the passing attack is going to be as danger as ever this year! :)
I'm actually a little shocked they haven't let Mendenhall go, especially with the injury and salary cap issues. I know he still has juice left in him, but I think the rest of the RB corps are more than capable and will come to their own, especially now that Haley is running things.
*sigh* I miss smash mouth football.
It'll be nice to see something new being brought to the table, but I'm a little worried that if something goes wrong, Haley's attitude and ego will get the best of him... Let's just hope Tomlin keeps him in check.
If Fitchner does in fact become OC, could you see Charlie Batch moving to the QB coach role?
Before I say this, I know it would be highly unlikely. What if they hired a former Steeler? The addition of Carnell Lake was a great move. Someone like Bettis would be awesome.
Nice job, Dom! I agree with you in so many ways. I've been wanting to see Arians go since the 2009 season (I gave him a free pass on the first year). Everyone is saying that the NFL is now a "Quarterback League". Throughout history, the Steelers have based their offense on their rushing attack. We have more than capable backs in Mendenhall and Redman. It just sucks seeing so many passing plays, especially with an injured QB.I also have concerns with LeBeau. That dude is a beast, but especially during the second half of the season, it seemed as if he got a little lazy. After halftime during the Denver Meltdown, I expected to see tighter coverage. I expected to see more blitzes and pressure on Tebow. If the defense gives up 100+ passing yards in one quarter, common sense would tell you that you should play tighter. Everyone has been blaming the age of the defense, but they're not to blame for sub-par play calling.
I'm really looking forward to this season. They've got a huge chip on their shoulders coming off their Super Bowl loss, so they'll (as always) be a force to be reckoned with!
When it comes to the game, I got quite worried with injuries, especially with the OL. I was very impressed with the run game and Cotchery definitely proved himself worthy. To me, the defense didn't look very intense, but I'm sure they save it all for when the games really matter. Other than the plagued OL, it looks like it'll probably be another winning season for the Steelers.
When it comes to the QB "controversy", I think Batch should get the #2 spot. Yes, I know that he's old, but he knows how to take a hit, he knows every single nuance of the playbook and is pretty darn solid. I really have never been a huge fan of Leftwich and with Dixon, he hasn't played too, too much, so that raises some concerns. Don't get me wrong, both of them are great athletes, but I think Batch deserves it. Hell, when he retires, I'd like to see him come back and be the QB coach!
