You say, "Government is necessary because certain necessary functions can be performed no other way." That may be so. But Murray Rothbard (and many others), were he alive, would certainly disagree. However, the statement, as it stands, should certainly be modified by the words, "State or local governments are necessary because . . ." I see no need for the Federal Government, at all. Absent Federal taxes which merely drain their strength, state governments are now populous enough and have enough resources to support and defend themselves. Not only that, but our individual state militias and National Guards would not be all over the world causing problems for millions. The world would be a much safer, more peaceful planet.
