@joelucia With Diaz down, sure, why not take a shot with the guy off the bench!

Agree that Green is ready, now.  But, Evan Gattis, Braves isn't a top prospect, as he'll be 26 this week and is in only his second year of full season ball. Why use a roster slot for such a long-shot, who will discover the A pitchers and MLB pitchers are vastly different.

@JLFCASH Yes! And, maybe a team option for a third year to serve as a Community Relations speaker [for somewhat less money].

First, Bud needs to listen to my idea about letting the active players elect the basic roster [http://bosoxinjection.com/2012/06/28/all-star-game-player-selection-new-rules-this-buds-for-you/]

Second, I agree that Napoli is not deserving this year; he is an example of fans voting him in on his  2011 performance.  That way, Salty could have made the roster.

Salty is coming along with his defense, but is a long way from matching Weiters and Mauer...

Fortuanately, Papi is big in so many ways; he will charm everyone and hit a HR...

Since the Marlins are desperate for a ML catcher [John Buck on defense is always too late and a dollar short], let's get Lavarnway to Fenway and package Shoppach and The Posednik Adventure to get a quality pitcher. EX: Jose Fernandez: "The Marlins’ first-rounder from 2011 has a great combination of stuff and a feel for pitching, especially for a high-school draftee. He can run his fastball up to 97 mph. His slider could be a plus out pitch in the future, a nasty breaking ball with late movement. He has feel for a changeup but will have to improve it as he starts his pro career. He has pretty good command, especially for his age and experience. As long as he stays on top of his conditioning, he has the potential to be a No. 2-type starter."

The Nats might go 1-1 for Lannan, but I would rather get Ty Clippard, who can start and relieve...

I'll go with Marrero; he has the best across-the-board skills. Think: Petrocelli or Garciparra.

Iglesias has the best glove, but still hits with a wet, rolled-up newspaper.

Lin is a lefty hitter and could find a spot in a L-R platoon.

Bogey will likely outgrow SS and, with Middlebrooks looking All-Star, will likely go OF, maybe 1b.

Aviles has surprised the skeptics and is keeping SS warm for the SS of The Future...

Give Papi a 3-year deal; first year guaranteed base salary with lots of incentives for performance; next two years, team option to continue on same basis.

Gee, weren't the Sox asking this question all spring: “do we overpay for a starter?” If they are still serious about contending, the need to put Bard back in the pen and trade prospects and/or Youk for a pitcher like Joe Saunders or Wandy Rodriguez...

How about a SP and an OF?  Send 3 prospects to Astros for Wandy Rod and send Youk [plus pay some of his salary] to Phillies for Shane Victorino?

@JLFCASH If they are making a run for the post-season this year, I would like a deal for Gavin Floyd (last year of contract @ $7 M).  Sox pay the $5M difference in Youk's salary and toss in Anderson?  If Floyd does well, Sox have an option year in 2013 @ $9.5 M...Or, they could have Wandy Rod for just prospects and trade Youk elsewhere?

@Michael Lavery IF Youk can return to form for a while, the Sox might get Joe Saunders from the 'Backs or Joe Blanton from the Phils, if they will pick up a portion of his $12 million tab.  Since the Sox have not yet tipped into the Seller column this season, getting a prospect is not appealing.  If the Sox are still Pennant Pretenders, they need to get serious and acquire a #3/#4 starter for Youk, money, and prospects soon.

IF the Sox are smart, they wait until Youk goes on a hitting streak to get max value in return; no, Max Value is NOT a prospect.  A reliable veteran #4 rotation pitcher is what the Sox need and they may need to toss in a prospect [Anderson?] to get it...

A perfect platoon partner for Igesias; Lin bats against RHPs, Iglesias vs. LHPs; neither hits over .220, but there's always the "runs saved" factor to consider...

Agreed, Shaffer would have been a better pick than Stratton; also, the SS from Florida, Nolan Fontana would have been a great pick; he can play SS or 2b...At 36. the St. Louis Cardinals took Stephen Piscotti, 3B, Stanford...

Great summary of the players' stats an skill sets!  Johnson might be ready for The Show in 2014 and Marrero is AAA+ right now.  Light is a project with a great physical frame.  I think the Sox were surprised that Marrero was still on the board at 24.
