Jags finished above .500 in '04, '05, and '07...

This is interesting to look at, what could have been. I sort of doubt the Colts would have taken Fleener if they didn't take Luck. Then again, I also don't think Ryan Grigson would have been the GM if the Colts had kept Manning either. And they probably wouldn't have cleaned house on the roster either so guys like Dallas Clark and Saturday probably would have hung around for another shot at a title with 18... They might have made a change at Head Coach still but even that kind of makes you wonder. If you are keeping Manning and trading the rights to Luck, you are going in total WIN NOW mode, so making drastic changes in the organization might not have been the plan.

Before the Colts fell to #1 I was kind of hoping that they would be able to keep Manning and get Wilson in the 3rd or 4th rounds. He was so good in college, his success in the NFL is no surprise to me at all.

@RobertItoh 7 division championships, 9 playoff appearances in 10 years, 2 super bowl appearances, 1 super bow win. you know how many teams would kill to "come up short" like that?

@DougEngland "There are at least 50 other runningbacks that could give the Colts what Ballard could". Did I read that wrong? because Ballard wasn't the 32nd worst RB in the league, and he was apparently better than the other two guys on the team.... so...?

@RobertItoh yeah, a return to the manning years would be horrible wouldn't it?

@Cleansweep1876 the other option is going all the way with an injury prone bradshaw and a disappointment who can't block his shadow in brown... good luck with that.

1 year ago on The Trent Richardson Trade: A Closer Look

Reply

@DougEngland if that is true... then why is willis mcgahee getting signed? why doesn't every team have a great rb? why has it taken the colts 8 years to find a franchise rb? people keep saying "rbs grown on trees" but... like... that isn't true. you can find a generic OK runningback lying around... you have to be lucky to get a GOOD one.

@thellamajockey i seem to remember that the crowd was basically told by #18 to stop making noise when they were on offense. they even had giant signs that said "QUIET OFFENSE AT WORK". I don't think people being bored has anything to do with it.

I wonder if this means Clyde Christiansen is out. I can't imagine the guy would want to stick around after getting demoted, then having to fill in for Arians, and then still getting passed over for the OC job (that he had two years ago). Side note, how much do you think that guy hates Curtis Painter?

Who is the Colts MVP this season? Obvious answer: Luck but I could make a case for Reggie... both on the field and off....

joe reitz is ok but the fact that losing him opens up a gaping hole in the line tells you how bad our line is. colts should give local guy ryan baker a shot. he's been with the dolphins a few times.

@GregC You're right, and like I said, I wasn't referring as much to this particular article as I was the national perception that the colts are going to be Andrew Luck and a bunch of Arena League guys... Just trying to stay positive :)

2 years, 2 months ago on Are you Buying what the Colts are Selling? | July

@GregC I guess it is less of a reaction to this particular article, but I just keep reading how the colts are going to be decimated. The only players they "lost" that they might miss in any way are Manning (duh) and Saturday (who has, what? one? two years left?). Sure those guys were big names, and fans liked them, but there are still a lot of guys who have played a lot of minutes in the last couple of years left. Like I said, Reggie, Dwight, Robert are top tier players at their positions, and costanzo, collie, angerer, bethea, donald brown, pat mcaffee, adam vinatieri, joe reitz were all starters last year and played at a high level...

I'm just tired of hearing it, because it isn't really true. Most of the $40 mill in dead money is for Peyton and Dallas Clark, one who played no games last year and the other who might as well have not played any games last year.

also, i'm kind of tired of hearing about how the colts gutted their roster. i'm sure reggie wayne, dwight freeney, robert mathis (all pro bowlers), and guys like austin collie, antoine bethea, and pat angerer agree with me.

Really? No comment? You aren't going to point out that Bob from Milwaukee doesn't really know what he's talking about? The two situations aren't really similar at all. Unitas hadn't started a full season in two years, and had already lost his starting job to Earl Morrall in Baltimore when he left. He really hadn't been that good for about five years. And when he went to San Diego he was a shell of himself. The guy who replaced him was Marty Domres (who? exactly). They would get Bert Jones a few years later and have some good years. Other than that they were both legendary Colts QBs, the situations aren't realy similar at all...

Peyton was an MVP candidate two years ago! And Andrew Luck isn't Marty Domres!

@DougEngland maybe he is hurt? maybe they needed to free up a roster spot and he was the lowest on the totem pole? maybe they only signed him to keep him from going wherever peyton goes?

@paulcareyjr but that still doesn't make sense. if polian was considering adding orton after week 6 as he claims, and orton was released in week 11, what changed in those five games? at what point was he considering adding orton after week 6 but before week 11? the only thing i can think of is that not only did they give up on collins but they should have realized painter couldn't play (they should have realized that a couple of years ago but that is another story).

long story short, polian is lying.

2 years, 4 months ago on Polian sees a way he could have stayed | Articles

if the colts won even 1 more game or at least 2 more (they definitely would have with orton or orlovsky in there more) peyton would still be here to finish his career, we would have gotten 3 or 4 high picks for rgIII...

also polian saying this is BS because he had an opportunity to get orton for free when he was released and didn't even put in a waiver claim. so, whatever, polian is lying again to protect his ego. shocking.

i'll miss peyton on the field. i don't know that he had a "special relationship" with indy. other than that he was really really insanely good. of course people loved him, he was really good and said all the right things. i just don't think the he has the kind of special relationship with this town that a guy like reggie miller did.

Oh, Brackett is gone, barring a renegotiation of his contract, either way. But, yeah, if the Colts stick with Manning that means they are going all out to win NOW. I can't imagine them not re-signing Wayne if that is the case. I also can't see Peyton letting them let Saturday go, especially since the line is still not all that great.

If they are rebuilding with Luck they are all gone. But sticking with Manning means they aren't rebuilding yet.

there is a shit-ton of money coming off the books next year IF WE GET RID OF MANNING'S $28 Mill salary and start over. if we are keeping manning then we will probably bring back Saturday, Reggie, etc. So there suddenly won't be a ton of cap room.
