" It is not a matter of reclaiming this word as a term to call the collective population of Native Americans. This is about having pride in it and not allowing the ignorance of a few to steal that proud word and turn it into a slur. "

There is an even better way to the answer the question "Would you call a Native American a “Redskin.”". I would call them by their name just as I would anyone else I know. Unless he was on our team in which case of course I would. After all the Redskins are a football team not a person.
@Green bee 1999 Most people assume that the word described the natural skin color of the North American Indians. However, there exists documentation that the name "redskin" was conferred upon the native inhabitants by the English Colonists because of the red body paint they wore in battle.

@turtleday1 @jdtarheel @jedgeco @RobynNesbittFranz If the term REDSKINS is meant to honor a moron like you I wish they would change the name.

Maybe you need to stop all this "thinking"
As the West expanded, the conflicts between the Native Americans and settlers increased. At one time or another, many of the Native American tribes fought against the cowboys, ranchers, miners and pioneers. To avoid any more conflicts, the government moved the Native Americans to reservations.

Shouldn't COWBOYS be considered more offensive to Native Americans since COWBOYS killed Indians?
I have never seen one poll anywhere that says the term REDSKINS is found offensive or racist by the Native American community. The polls I have seen show the majority of Native Americans the overwhelming majority I should say have no problem with the name. Where is your evidence?
Why do you hate Native Americans so much that you want all references to them in popular culture eliminated?
