While Brunner showed signs of being a great player, He didn't seem to have the drive to get the puck. He often seemed to wait for it to be dished to him. That's not REDWINGS hockey. To wear the sweater you have to train and work to play a complete game. Over the REDWINGS history there has been a consistency of 2 way forwards, top scoring  defensemen and a lunch pal mentality across all lines. Money doesn't buy that. It comes from respecting the game, the logo on your sweater and the heart of the players in your locker room. I think Alfie and Wiess both understand this. Let the kids go marinate in the league for awhile if they are worth it, they will be back. It will do Fil some good to hangout in TB with Stevie Y (Talk about Heart). Brunner needs to get some dirt under his nails. LETS GO REDWINGS!!!

I'd have to go with Ian White as the replacement for DeKeyser. Experience and being on the + end of things, puts him above Lashoff in my book. Besides so much of the play has been on special teams that having a righty on the blue line would be a benefit too. What White gives up in size, he makes up with instincts and puck movement. Lashoff needs to ripen a bit more.

@marti783  @moorecha So you propose blowing the team up? A different style of play? What needs to change? I think losing Lidstrom was change enough. Last years 8th seed won the CUP. The team just needs to remember its the playoffs and you dont let off  the gas for one minute. We got the road win we needed, now lets take care of home ice and persevere. We are just seeing the parity that the league has been trying to create for years. LGRW

He's versatile enough to play across any of the lines. He's the wrecking ball with finesse we need in on the forecheck. Put him on a line with Pav and Z or to take pressure off of Fil and The Mule. Having Big Bert roaming the middle of the  D zone will free Kronwall ( the other Wrecking Ball) to seek out Selanne and disrupt his game. Wanna get the game off of the boards? Put Bertuzzi on the ice.

All in all, last night seemed to be a feeling out process for the team. Vets and stars trying to play conservative to cover for the youth. And the youth playing to not make mistakes, instead of playing to win. Lines tended to shy away from an aggressive forecheck, which led to the one and done offensive play last night. The stretch passing in the 1st period made the our forwards play too high in the defensive zone trying to get a jump on the outlet pass. This left a lot of real estate for team disney in our zone, effectively collapsing our D and giving them the boards and reducing the likelihood of Kronwall putting Salami through the glass. We started controlling both zones in those last 4 regular season games. We need to stop playing their game and start playing ours! LGRW

Should we have expected this to be a normal season? We are without one of the greatest two-way Defenders ever. Not to mention the anchor and captain of a team that's had continued success for 20 plus years. To assume you could replace that without a dip in play discounts how truly great and significant #5 was. We are left with a team that is trying to find how to pick up that slack. You cant trade into another player like that. That player needs to be nurtured and grown into that role. The REDWINGS are the best team on this planet to cultivate another Legend as they've done so many times before. Perhaps the perseverance and will that was displayed this season, just to make it in to the post season, is evidence that this team and its fans should take nothing for granted and make no assumptions that the Winged Wheel logo is what gets you to our goal. Through all adversities, we BELIEVE and we PERSEVERE. That's how so many legendary players before have set the benchmark of excellence. The issues faced this year weren't because of a couple of transactions that didn't go as planned. Injuries on the blueline have plagued us. Lack of a power play didn't help either. It's hard to replace Homer in the goalies face. They had 1/2 a season to learn to play as a team, yet still they got it done. It wasn't pretty, but they got it done. Playoffs once again. The Real Season Begins!!! LGRW

I hope TooToo's tenacity is infectious. If the 3rd and 4th lines can be that aggressive on the forecheck, coaches will have no choice but to break up their top lines to balance defensively. Historically when the REDWINGS consistently play like that, they are not out played nor out scored. There's a reason benches don't have names on them, Carpe Diem and claim your spot! LET"S GO REDWINGS!

Short cycles of the puck, especially when dealing with bigger players. weaving in and out opens lanes because bigger slower players tend increase the gap and leave the stick to take up that space, the skater that just had the puck now trips on the stick and a whistle is blown. next 5/5 shift I'll bet theres even more space for fear of another penalty. It starts with cyling the puck in out and around the dots. Moving feet get tripped, create space, and confuse the vision and balance of defenders. I dont care how big and physical you are, if your vision and balance are thrown off, youre a pylon. REDWINGS IN 7! BELIEVE THAT!

Poorly managed game by the officials to begin with. Weber knows better and if he doesnt then anyone that wishes he would wear the Winged Wheel is off their rocker. That was a classless play no matter how you look at it. If the league is trying to clean the goon out of of the game then they cannot allow these incidents to happen without punishment.

Adversity is what tempers a team for the post season. Is it ironic that TPH, Dangles, Jimmah and Mr. Lost and Found (Quincey) were all out of this game? I don't think so. Babs is an excellent coach, he holds the team accountable no matter who's out there. Glad to see that even with plenty of mistakes to go around, the WINGS could come back and win the game in regulation. They did it without a Capt, an Allstar netminder, not to mention without Datsyuk! I still remember the Island, glad I didn't have to witness a repeat!

Its a good fit to bring him back. I think Kindl needs to marinate a bit more. He plays with a fake sense of confidence and tries to make big boy plays instead of keeping it simple. Miller, Cleary and Helm are all great players. Cleary's legs are frustrating him I'm sure. Helm has foot speed and when he has open ice, he can definitely finish. I think Josh is right, teams have figured out if you can take away his time and space then you will neutralize his offensive threat. Miller happens to be as Mr.Redmond would say", Johnny on the spot!" lately. Miller's swagger is a reflection of the wave he's on right now. More power to him... If we are just talking for picks and no trades, Gill is not bad for his stay at home mentality and his patience with a young defense partner. Commie was the best stats wise of the 3 in this past game, Gill provided shutdown assistance and Kindl was -3 on the night. Kindl could stand to ripen some more although his stats are right with E52, but E52 needs to earn his keep. Im a fan of saving duckets until season's end, but if picks will get us good support then so be it.

@freakazoid0587@Jordan_Reis Yes, Kindl seems to be the low man on the D roster. That last game showed he was the albatross on the D's neck. There was plenty of blame to go around so im not saying it was his fault by any means, but limp wristed passes into the slot to break out of the zone didn't help relieve the pressure... but this all goes back to the thought that we could pick up Ruutu and Gil for picks only.

I dont think its an upgrade scenario as much as it is supplementing the roster for the future. The WINGS have a great stable, but I think reinforcing the defense while Lidstrom is still playing would be paramount to keeping up the level of play on the back end. He wont be replaced, but for any player to learn from him all they can, would only help Kronner out. Lidstrom carries the load of three players at times. Thats an awesome load to pass on to the next guy. WINGS have to have options to see who steps up and shoulders that load.

If more size and grit (Goon) are what we are looking for to add to the top 6, we have to understand whether our PK (22nd in the league) is up for it or not. Bear in mind this puts TPH on the ice more in shorthanded minutes than PP and 5/5. seeing where he sits with points on this team and in the league, you could assume goal production would go down. Thats a big price to pay to keep people off of Howard. The best way to do that is to keep the puck on the other end of the ice as much as possible. Flip, Happy, Hemsky/Ruutu?

Well, so is any player in the league when youre skating with your head down or between your legs looking for your manhood. I have yet to hear a single WING complain about being checked hard. Ask Homer! They take it and leave it on the ice. Numbers or not, Salami doesnt deserve the Winged Wheel on his chest. Leave him at Disneyland!

@Reddy The ice was terrible last night. The puck was bouncing so much during warm ups before each period that both teams had to adjust their passing. wet spots in the ice that just killed a lot of passes that weren't off the ice. that coupled with the fatigue from the night before, really slowed down the passing game in the neutral zone. both teams looked scared of making a mistake trying to carry the puck thru wet spots.

@Malpraktis I dont think the Wings think short term. They like to turn over aging players and tweak things to get a consistent level of play. I think The best value would be in Hemsky. Oilers management and fans have tipped their hat in favor of moving on, if theres interest from other teams, thus reducing his value. theyve given up on him, thats the message. I dont think he wants that burden anymore. I think early round picks would be be in the Oilers interest as well as just getting him off the books. Draft picks they could use to sweeten the pot in trades for other teams seasoned players to add leadership to the roster.

Good back checking gets you the puck back. Guess what you need in order to put a shot on net and score some goals? Thats right Harvard Grads, the F#$^&n' PUCK!!! Hes being asked to do too much in a place where the expectations were that one can carry the kids to the promised land. He seems to always step up his game when he plays the REDWINGS!!! almost like he's applying for a job. I think he would find a new work ethic and fix those issues in DETROIT!!!
