Stop begging for Nyquist, there is literally no way to work him into the roster right now. We can't get rid of Sammy and we are going to have to drop guys just to get Big E back into the fold. Argue all you want about what got us into this ridiculous roster situation in the first place but right now the teams hands are tied.

If we keep playing like we just did, 9/10 we win that game. Yes, we need to capitalize more. Missed empty netters keep this game from being 4-2 Wings.

@JasonKeller Oh yeah this season he has been fantastic. Finally solidified up there with Kronwall. I'm just remembering in the past when nobody really like him. If you were to read this blog two seasons or more ago it wasn't uncommon to see him referred to as Shitbox. I'm glad he has finally come into his own. He will definitely be a giant plus once he comes back.

UGH such bad positioning by the defense. That first Dallas goal is totally preventable if Kindl didn't chase the puck out of position. Also in OT the Stars got three or four uncontested shots on net before they finally scored, defense was non existent. I know they are young and all but they have to be better. DDK can't do it all and I'm afraid they will lean on him too much this year. Hopefully Holland can work some magic and bring in another veteran guy. Doesn't have to be a superstar dman, just someone who is solid positionally and can help our young guys a bit. Can't believe I'm saying this but I can't wait for Big E to come back.

My guess is they have a trade partner for Tootoo already but they would have to retain some salary. So they waive him first in the hopes someone would claim him and take all the salary off the books. I wouldn't be surprised to see Toots traded soon after he clears. The Wings have already stated he would not go to GR if he passes waivers. It's a shame because a lot of people liked him in Detroit, myself included.

Detroit coming off a three game win streak on the road, Jets had three game losing streak at home. Also the Jets were embarrassed in front of their fans in their last game, they were going to come out jumping. The Wings on the tail end of a road trip couldn't keep up. Let them rest a bit and I think we will be back to more solid hockey.

You don't give Tootoo enough credit. I bet he would do more offensively than Cleary has so far. Plus he always skates with speed and intensity, something we haven't seen consistently from this team so far. Tootoo can actually put up points of given the chance. It just seems Babs isn't up for giving people chances. I hope Tootoo gets some ice time soon.

How is no one mentioning DeKeyser? He played amazing. He has great positioning and neutralized many scoring chances before they could develop. You know who else had great positioning? Some guy named the perfect human. Now Danny is a long way from Lidstrom but I like what I see.

I was at the game and the atmosphere was awesome. Gonna be a great year at the Joe!

Sammy and Bert staying put. So much for the youth movement. Most likely Sammy will get hurt though, or Holland is going to trade some youth this offseason.

Also the main reason for dropping Cola is Lashoff's contract moves to a one-way next season and Babs has him penciled in as D-man number 7.

Also, what happened to White? Does no one mention him as a UFA because we all know his is for sure gone?

1 year ago on Seeya Carlo - Colaiacovo Is Gone

@SamSimmons it wasn't the money that lost Vinny. Philly was the only team willing to go more than 3 years for contract length. Holland was looking more for 2 or 3.

1 year ago on Seeya Carlo - Colaiacovo Is Gone

The good thing about Vinny is he should go for cheaper than you think. Tampa has to pay him 30 some odd million bucks so he is not going to be strapped for cash. And if he wants the years he is is looking for, most GM's will ask for a lower price. If we could get him at 5.5 or so that would be great. Definite upgrade from Fil. But there are always those GM's that throw stupid amounts at players and spoil the day for everyone else.

I was at the game. After Abby's goal the place was crazy. Everyone stayed standing and cheering pretty much up to Etem's goal. After that goal everyone was still optimistic. The only goals Anaheim had were ones we gave them. After the 3rd Duck goal the place went silent, and I mean silent. Even in overtime you could feel the tension in the crowd. Z's goal was the biggest feeling of relief. It was a great game.

The were so many penalties not called in this game. Blatant penalties in front of refs. That third goal would have never happened if the ref called Perry for tripping Quincey.

Smith seems to be in the wrong spot a lot. I also noticed at times he would lose the puck because he was too busy getting one last check on a guy who checked him. But that's because he is young, Kronner will teach him as time passes.

@DetCapC19 Technically he has the goal. Whether or not he "scored" is up for debate. All kidding aside though, Cleary's best attribute is his ability to fight for space in front of the net.

I think the deciding factor in this series will be how well the Wings' young guns take the pressure of the playoffs. The playoffs truly are an entirely different game and the Ducks are big and ugly. They are going to hit a lot and they are going to hit hard. Can guys like Brunner take that punishment? I think it is beneficial we face the Ducks first because there aren't many other teams out there that bring high level scoring, tough hitting, and tremendous douchiness like the Ducks do.

Cleary hasn't been very good and it kills me to say it cuz I love the guy and he is so determined. He turns it over all the time and only had one or two good looks at the net. I caught myself thinking how much better that line would have been if Miller wasn't hurt and Cleary sat. He just can't do what his mind wants him to do.

Also Smith plays a risky game but it is good to see he has the ability to cover his mistakes.

DeKeyser is good at hockey.

It seems like the Wings are in one of their phases when they overthink everything. Too many passes and too much free wheeling. Put the puck on the net and hope for the best. If Z would have fired a shot instead of trying to hit Brunner that is at the very least a grade A scoring chance. Not blaming Z for the shorty, that was just bad things happening at the worst time.

@DetCapC19  @JOHNxJOHN The only reason Parise and Suter both went to Minny is because Parise wanted to play for his hometown team and Suter wanted to play with a good friend. No GM was going to pull them away from that. Plus when the cap drops those contracts are going to handcuff Minnesota. And J-Bo was traded for a 1st rounder and 2 prospects. So for one defensemen you want to lose a 1st rounder in one of the deepest drafts in recent memory and at least Sproul or Jarnkrak or Pulkinen. Not worth it at all. Just you wait and see when teams need to start dropping big contracts, some big names will fall into free agency and Holland knows it.

@DetCapC19 I am perfectly fine with no moves at the deadline. The Wings are rebuilding. That's it, plain and simple. We didn't want to trade away any picks or prospects. Our core will only be around for maybe 5 years or so. This free agency coming up will be pretty epic with the new cap and all. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new look Redwings next season. Holland and Babs we willing to lose the playoff stream in order to guarantee our rebuild takes as little as possible effort wise. Think about it, when other teams rebuild they look like Edmonton, buried for 5 to 7 years. The Wings can rebuild in one or two season while still staying in contention. We are so spoiled with success that we can't even appreciate what we have.

I seem to be the only person I know who never expected Helm to be back in the first place. Back injuries are iffy in the first place and I would rather have him sit out a year than kill his career. Our other guy with speed and energy like Tootoo has been out with a bad back for awhile now. But Helm will be back eventually *knocks on wood*. Someone needs to sit down with Smith and let him know the number one rule for playing in your own zone, never clear up the middle. He gave it away at least three times and Jimmy had to bail him out. I honestly do not believe the Wings will make any trades before Wednesday. But if they do, it will be shipping away White to make room for Dekeyser.....I hope.

Is everyone forgetting that we are in the playoffs? And to fall out of the playoffs we would have to play below .500 hockey for the rest of the season. We have won 5 out of our past 6. We are on the verge of sweeping a West Coast trip. We swept the #2 team in the league in their own barn. And we don't even have Helm back. I think Kenny is right to be patient, we honestly don't need anything outside a #2 D-man and one more second line scorer, who we can get back from injury....maybe. Trade deadline is next week, I can't wait to see the reactions when we don't make a move.

@ThroatShot I would rather see Tatar on the 3rd line. He has the ability to score 2nd line numbers from the 3rd line. I do think Nyquist should be up higher but Babs doesn't. I think we might see a move that opens up some space for him up top because he has had a good showing past few games.

I think Holland is just being patient. We really don't have the pieces to make the moves the Pens did. Plus the Pens are going for broke this season, they will lose almost every player they have traded for and still might have to cut down the roster to fit in the new cap. I think Holland knew this was going to be an up and down season (no one can predict injuries like this). I think we will see our big move in the offseason once teams need to fit in the cap. Plus a trade for Yandle still isn't out of the question this season although we would be paying dearly. Let's be honest, how many people thought we were cup contenders this year? I would be happy with keeping the playoff streak alive. Get our young guns some postseason experience. When this team grows up, we will be contenders and that may be sooner than you think.

If anything I thought he would get in trouble for leaving his feet. I know impact causes players to lift but Knonner always explodes into the hit and if he does too early his feet come up. This hit was just like the Kesler hit where he explodes up into the hit at just the right time to make it look like he jumps. This is the right call in my opinion. I would hate to play games without Nik Jr.

Datsyuk needs Bert back. I swear he was one of the best wingers for Pav. Size, grit, hands, and a wicked shot. All while being on the same track mentally with Pav. Bert knew where to go and when to go because he is a goal scorer. All Abby knows is to work along the walls and stand in front of the net. No passing, no shots, so far off mentally from Pav that the whole line suffers.

Also our D needs to work on communication skills. Too many goals that could have been solved with better coverage. Everybody needs to learn their assignments. Plus the Wings just need to catch a freaking break. So many posts in the past few games. We need an ugly 3 or 4 deflection of skates type of goal every now and then. If our D could get shots through to the net every now and then maybe that could happen. SO FRUSTRATING!

@Twig  @JOHNxJOHN I was hoping once Franzen came back they would put him with Pavel and Cleary with Z and Brunner. At least then Pavel can have some skill to play with and there will be enough size up front to warrant playing Tatar. I also heard the reason Babs says not to Tatar up front is because his defensive game isn't up to snuff.

1 year, 4 months ago on Promote Tatar? Babcock Says No

I can understand the hesitation on putting Tatar on the 2nd line. That line needs size. This is the only reason Abby is on it. To open up room for Pav to be Pav. Tatar is small and gets tossed around all the time. He checks are almost pointless as he bounces off everyone. He does have some of the best hands around the net that I have seen but that is why he runs so much train on the 3rd line. Other 3rd liners can't compete against that skill level. Imagine if Tatar went up against the other team's top D every night. If Bert ever gets back then maybe I can see Tatar on the line with Pavel.
