@MaryEHaight @kolchakpuggle We have a pretty fabulous group of folks who take turns distributing flyers (and discount coupons for other local store supporting our effort!) in the parking lot at Petland. I know that one of the stores mails the redeemed coupons to the Petland owner once a month with a Thank You note for all the extra sales. She's a cheeky monkey ;0) Attempts to nail them to a timeline for their "phase out" are pretty much futile, so I feel fairly convinced that either A: there is no plan or B: They're going to drag their feet as long as they can. They're hiding behind the fact that they don't buy from "far off breeders" rather local back yard breeders and mills, as if someone local crappy breeding is better than crappy breeding from any other area.
Our city (like the nearby city of Richmond) is considering a ban of live animal sales. Our local Petland still has animals (despite repeatedly saying they were phasing them out). I would love to see this change.
I've never been a big "resolutions" person, but I am a big list maker. Lists tend to keep me on track and working towards my goals. So instead of resolutions, I just made a list of the things I want to do (daily, weekly, monthly) and I'm trying to stay on top of them. To me, resolutions always felt like I was trying to change who I was, where the lists just help me be the best me I can!
Kol is the least helpful garden assistant I could possible imagine. Hs specialty is body slamming seedlings and grinding them into the soil until they beg for mercy.
We have wild bunnies by my office! Instead of trying to catch them, we planted them a special garden of snacks and we all bring tasty extras for them to much on! It'ss so cute to watch them, but we've resisted them tempation to let them socalize with us! We don't want them getting to comfortable with humans!
Hmmm, I'm pretty sure my spoiled little brats are costing me more than that, but that's OK because they are worth every penny ;0)
I had a parrot when I was a kid that would attack you to get at fresh apple. It was his fav!
Love these. I'm particulary in love with this one: http://pinterest.com/pin/253116441526983815/
I missed the pop quiz this week, ut even if I had been here, I would have been wrong. My guess was two. LOL, the big two at the front. That's it.
Jodi - you would be AMAZED how much traffic flows from Pinterest to my blog! In the month I've been pinning my treat recipes and pet photos, traffic is up abut 10%. I LOVE it, but like Dawn, I used to have a paper file FULL of magazine pages and stuff. I'm a sucker for an inspiration board. We are definitely Pinterest/Obsessed over at Kol's Notes!
Oh that is so darn adorable! I had a gerbil once that was fascinated by Susan Sarandon movies.
When we remodelled our laundry room, I had a deep laundry sink installed at the perfect height for baths. It has one of those fancy soaping & rinsing hand tools. We're thinking having a couple of those dog crate/planters built and I would LOVE to be able to give my dogs their own room.
I don't know about Spain or China, but I'm pretty sure that herisson in French is a hedgehog...or maybe a porcupine. Something with quills, for sure.
We struggle (oh so much) with Social media at Casa de Kolchak. I can't deny that it works. We get a huge amount of our traffic from Facebook referrals and I have been lucky to get to know some of the Kol's Notes community better there. Definitely worth the added effort...if you can find time!
What a lovely tribute to a very special woman. Your love and respect for her and the woman she helped you become shines through in every word. Just as you were blessed to have her, she was blessed to be loved by you Kim. I lost my Grandmother this year as well and I miss her so much. I can't wait until I feel strong enough to pore over our family photos and create something as beautiful as you have. ♥
Payton is fricking adorable. I love her. While I'm ot ready to give up my holiday Turkey any time soon, I do try to be a responsible meat eater and I buy a lot of my meat from local free-range farms. You can actually go and tour these farms to see the animals are well cared for and that they live a good life. Not as good as not eating turkey, but I do what I can.
"a total tech newbie? A Twitter ignoramus, and wouldn’t know CSS or HTML from a Chinese fast-food menu."
That is the perfect description of me 9 months ago. Of course, back then, I had *no idea* how much went into blogging. I thought it was going to be a fun little thing I did for half hour, a few times a week. Now I'm trying to learn all that I can and all that stuff that I thought I should know before I started? Well, it's all come kind of naturally as the blog has grown and I have gotten deeper and deeper into the art of blogging. My sticking point right now? Figuring out how to make SEO work for me without losing my signature style. I'll get there, I guess I just have to get a little sluttier first.
Is this a ball or a snack?! I'm so confused!
Great advice! We went holistic a number of years ago and we would never turn back! We used to see the vet several times a year, now we only go for check up/emergencies. My pups are healthier than ever!
Can Canadian's enter? I've been wanting to read this for a while and it always seems to slip my mind when I am at the book store! I loved the Art of Racing in the Rain (which is written from Enzo the dog's perspective) and I write my blog from Kolchak's perspective a lot of the time, so I always have fun seeing how other writer's interpret the canine narrative. I am also intrigued by the idea of re-incarnation. I'd like to beleive we get a second, third or more chances to get it right, if we need them!
(PS - thanks shivathedog for Tweeting this! I had missed the original post!)
