Such a letdown. Finale feels really slapped together.

@harmlesslyfatal http://westbrookframes.com/ @Old Man Game @ Luke NBA teams have folders on multiple prospects years away. They can't just cram at the end right before the draft when their jobs depend on it the way we do.

@[weed wolf faction] @Old Man Game @ThunderChick2010 True but why (outside of this roster spot flexibility) take long odds and made them even worse?

@ Luke @Old Man Game I think someone tweeted this after the pick. Thing about most defensive specialists, in college they were good scorers. Tony Allen averaged 16 ppg.

@[weed wolf faction] @harmlesslyfatal http://westbrookframes.com/ @Old Man Game @ Luke What's the average at pick 59 or 60 where his own agents thought he'd be lucky to be picked if not for this?

@ Luke @Old Man Game He does still have a good frame and solid athleticism. In theory if he could fill out and maintain lateral quickness he could be a really nice defender. Sort of a poor man's K. Leonard.

@[weed wolf faction] @Old Man Game @ThunderChick2010 What can I say. I put a lot of time into looking at draft prospects every year. Felt like this made a joke of the whole draft scouting process.

@[weed wolf faction] @Old Man Game @harmlesslyfatal http://westbrookframes.com/ @El Prez I sort of agree with you there. It would be cool if D Leaguers could make decent money and might really help us develop role players so we don't have to overpay them in free agency to come here.

@ Luke @Old Man Game Thing about Huestis, none of the predictive models like Warp or that one Hickory High had liked him. Not even a little bit. And most of Presti's picks have been ones that rate at least decently in those models.

@harmlesslyfatal http://westbrookframes.com/ @[weed wolf faction] @El Prez Supposedly. They want this to lead to more roster spots or higher paying D League contracts.

@ Luke A) Agree there. Seems like a great kid.

B) Still not convinced he likes him in absolute terms. If roster flexibility weren't an issue does he take him?

@El Prez Yeah. At least Markel might be a fan favorite and throw down a ridiculous dunk from time to time. And so what if it was Huestis' agent's idea. Once they heard it though could have taken it to other players and pitched them. Oh well, it's water under the bridge.

@ThunderChick2010 @Old Man Game I was mad about this Huestis deal. I was mad when they picked him but at least I kept telling myself Presti knows what he's doing and maybe he'd found another steal. This info came out and it became clear, they didn't take him for his talent. They took him so they could maintain roster flexibility. I still ultimately blame Grant Jerrett for this. Yeah you could cut Thabeet, but I sense they want at least one non-guaranteed deal so they can clear a spot if the right player comes along. That being the case I think Grant, as the last guaranteed rookie is the one they chose over those players like Kyle Anderson, KJ McDaniels and Jarnell Stokes that they could have had there.

@King of Carrot Flowers the third College football is a corrupt institution enriching old men at the expense of the health of young men who aren't even fairly compensated. True or False?

@ThunderChick2010 @Old Man Game No. Justin just couldn't take my crassness anymore. I'm still disappointed they took a player with little prospect of being decent for our team. Maybe the won't even ever sign him. Or maybe they use him as a trade throw-in piece akin to Cole Aldrich to get rid of him.

@ThunderWins @[weed wolf faction] @Old Man Game It wasn't just DT commenters assuming a lot about this. As the story caught on people everywhere were thinking a lot of the same things. Lowe and SB Nation don't write articles on non-stories after all.

@[weed wolf faction] @Old Man Game Lowe himself in the article even said at first glance it appears like the team was taking advantage of the player. It was only natural. Especially with the team's history of penny pinching.  You jumped to conclusions also. Gave all the credit to Presti for thinking outside the box. Turns out he didn't deserve any of it.

In any case. I have no hope whatsoever that Huestis will ever play a meaningful minute for the Thunder (barring some cascade of injuries), especially after reading that piece (they called him a marginal prospect even by Europe standards). However, it's pretty cool if it moves the ball down the field towards doing something about the sh!tty D League compensation.

The irreplaceable Zach Lowe. That was an awesome article on the Huestis situation today. 2 things.

1) Reading comprehension does not appear to be strong among those commenting on that article.

and

2) His agents seem really proud of themselves. They did all but come out and say, "we figured out a way to get this spaz drafted in the first round, just think what we could do for better players."
