Your comparing the best player to ever play the game and professional sports is like comparing apples to oranges. Look at a college player like Silas Redd. The second-team All-Big Ten running back in 2011, who ran for 1,241 yards and seven touchdowns, When he turned his back and left Penn State, how many fans do you think followed him to USC except for his family and friends.

Asinine argument. People follow sports for the name on the front of the uniform and the 100 year history of the sport, and the marketing of the sport, not for the name on the back.

If Johnny Football played for UnderArmour and wasn't affiliated with a town, state, or college, the profit from him wouldn't pay for his college tuition, let alone private coaches, first class travel, first class meals, free get-out-of-jail cards, and other benefits a college player gets.

Those games are called college all-star games and ratings show that nobody watches them or cares about them. And the few people that do watch them are people watching them because of the name of the college where they had played.
