Hate seeing this happen and hope this kid gets into a good program somewhere, gets a degree, and hopefully ges his shot in the NFL.
This is not the end of the world for Shaq.........and UGA is in great shape with a better staff that is on the same page and depth in talent to coach up.
My take is that a new D-coaching staff has started fresh.....and any equity Shaq has built up has been nullified , which is a step backward. Then look at what happened this spring....several players are stepping up. Shaqs spring game performance was not very impressive.....and emphasis on recruitng DB's....... draw your own conclusion.

DawgByte - Good Post but I think we all like to scrutinzation and it perpetuates itself.
UGA is a very successful program year in and year out. Certainly there is room for improvement and I am excited about the coaching changes..... as they were needed.
I like that the position coach need to be 100% in - however, I like that Coach Richt stamps the offer. I do think that the cycle needs to be expedited.
Again, we are on the outside looking in and it is easy to critique.

Excellent work, really enjoyed reading and analyzing this article.
It really appears that Richt has breathed new life into the program with Pruitt's hire.
4 months, 3 weeks ago on Dawg Snacks: Early Look at UGA 2015 Recruiting Board
Reading all the critiques regarding recruiting the o-line makes me think about a few important considerations:
1. UGA is attracting good talent to develop.
2. We have a very solid competitive program year in and year out in the most competitive league in college football........so we are consistent.
3. Teams can trend hot and cold....which can resonate with recruits........and right now! Auburn is the hot team with the hot coach! Clemson has broken through and is trending popular! FSU is back! Alabama is...... Alabama, with a driven no nonsense coach that has created a monster building on an already elite history. TAMU is taking advantage of a great situation. LSU is LSU. After trending down, Tennesseee is on the rise with an incredible recruiting effort in back to back years. South Carolina continues to recruit to their needs and is solid......see if this team trends down after Spurrier leaves....when all is said and done, Spurrier is an elite coach. Gators will attract talent and will not tolerate another mediocre year from current staff.
4. As for UGA! We are in very good shape as proven by the last few recruiting classes.......and we have a long way to go for this years class.
What has hurt UGA of late?
1. Obviosly, for 2013....injuries, injuries, injuries....and a defensive coaching staff that ran schemes too complicated for young players to step in and perform. Losing CTG is a great thing and hopefully Pruitt will raise the level of play.
2. Not winning a national title when everyone around us seems to have one a title in the BCS era.
3. Last two defensive staffs could not get the job done. Just think about it, our offense has carried the team more than the defense the last few years....if the defense was a little better, we would have been in great position for a national title.
What to expect in 2014?
1. I expect UGA to compete for the SEC East.......this race is wide open.
2. SEC West ream will be favored to win the SEC.
3. Could we see an Auburn UGA SEC title game?
4. UGA will win a minimum of 9 games this season....barring injuries.......and Mason develops to a game player! Not just a practice player. USCe will be huge. Tenneseee will be improved, MIZ is team to be reckoned with, Auburn is a hot program

Agree as well. Joe Cox =DGD! I think he is better than Hutson Mason....and that is not a slight at HM.
In Joes only year , the Defense was not up to par a OL was averae. Won more games tha last years team.

@EdThomas......agree, the purpose of spring is to go back to basics and work on fundamentals, continue conditioning, and introduce strategic concepts. If you introduce a spring game, then it becomes a win loss scenerio with the fan base. I can see it now from the sports media, "Richts team better be more prepared than they were last spring".
Also, The current spring game rewards a schools entire roster by dividing the roster into two teams which equares into playing time in the scrimmage for many kids.

This is now a tradition to welcome in spring.
Good morning all!
Its a great day to wake up being Dawg here in the Volunteer state.
LOVE Alabamadawgs post this morning ......... and definately join you in the haters club!
The obvious reasons to hate TN, Bama, Aub and Gators........ because they are there!
Here are my personal reasons:
Tennessee: Phat Phil, Lane Kiffen, Dooleys orange pants, arrogant fans that even after getting whipped make excuses as why the better team lost that day........ugly orange and hideous uniforms, the song rocky top.
Auburn: hmmmm, where to begin, just too many.....ok, here are just a few.....history of cheating, between the hoses, $cam Newton, Farleys late hits, the bagman, midget bowden, pat "kick for a tie" dye (as a coach), excon roster management, Booby Lowder, midnight plane rides, ..... could go on....just too much material here.
Florida: jorts, mullets, spurriers domination, arrogance and mouth, urban meyer, meyers time outs, criminal roster management and hypocrisy, gator chomp, fans arrogance,......exactly what did the Gators accomplish from an elite perspective prior to Surrier?
Bama: Houndstooth, fans arrogance (tea bagging, tree killing, stadium row diving arrogance that is simply beyond comprehension), Smart not coming home when "mama called", Kiffens return to the south, Memphis recruitng tactics....just to name a few.
Well, feel free to add............

Ouch.....so as it stands, UGA cant hang with GA Southern or Kennesaw. Wonder how we would fair against Mercer, Piedmont, Young Harris, Berry and North Georgia! Lets do not talk about GT.
Total rebuild taking place....will be fun to see how much improvement happens by mid season and by the end of the season.

A@Reddawg 13........I hope you are right, after the star studded 2012 inconsistencies and issues last year ir
t was very apparent that our defense was not yielding the results eqivalent to there talent and atletic ability........which boils down to teaching, game planning and execution. Certainly had some great moments but not consistent or cohesive.
If anything, I believe that Pruit will simplify and allow for the Defense to be play better as a unit and therefore be more consistent. It drove me crazy watching Swann relaying adjustment ignals while the competition was snapping the ball.
Certainly thank all the former coaches for their effortGo Dawgs!

It is a real joy to come in and read the posts and various thinkings of all these DGDs.
I like to comment on occasion - some are very positve, some are citical -but all are heartfelt. And I appreciate that there is no gutter talk back and forth that is a feature of the AJC.
Got to hit the road - will pick up tonight and catch up then.

UGA b-ball is a roster of mediocre to bottom college level players playing in a horrible league.
Losing to 1-6 Auburn is pathetic.
Fox needs to go...hate it for him as he is extremely likeable and someone you to root for.
Hope our AD can find the next Billy Donovan. Our BB team needs drastic change. I think Fox is a great person, a great teacher, just did not work out for him in Athens. Too bad...... both UGA and Fox deserve better

That goober beat Richt last time they met........then got beat by Houston the next week. Bad year for UGA.
WE have a ways to go - but have good returning talent. I think what is impressing me about Pruitt (at least from what I am reading) is that he has simplified the concepts of the 3-4 to where the kids better understand what they are doing and can play fast as a unit.
It will be fun watching how our defense progressess.
Also - I am hoping the Mason turns out to be more than a servicable back-up. Excited for this young man that he is getting his opportunity. However, he looked like a back-up against GT and NE - not a QB that has been in the system 4 years.
7 months, 3 weeks ago on Pruitt’s Defense = Attack
This might be because Jabob Coker might be considered a player with a huge upside and legitimate starter versus Hutson Mason, a great off the bench 2nd string caliper QB that finds himself a 5th year senior and a one year starter due to whats behind him. Mason has hung in there and is a DGD - but he might be more Joe Tereshinski 3 than A. Murray if you get my drift. Time will tell and I certainly will be rooting for Mason.
Thank you Louisville. ?..thank you Papa Johns.....to celebrate, we are eating PapaJohns Pizza tonight!

Our defense just got better. Outside 2011...this unit has been more liability than asset. Sure, it had its moments as all units do. We will be in better shape short term and long term. If we losa a recruit or two... no problem as this opens up opportunity for another deserving kid in 2015.
8 months, 1 week ago on Todd Grantham Gone
@Bleudawg....The other day you mentioned you wanted to not hear anymore negative but was positive moving forward. What happened? I agree with your IMHO statement above......but also agree with your positive thoughts from the other day.
A few thoughts:
1. Richt has had UGA poised for a NT appearance 3 times ....but Karma or lady luck just did not fall our way. Think Clint Storner with Tennessee. The LSU 2 loss NT. The late season upset losses to USCe or Oregan that opened the door to an SEC team........frustrating that we have not benefitted or created our own luck...but it appears we are in position for another 3 to 4 year run of competing for elite status in SECe.....which is step one for bigger and better things.
2. Yes, it seems something ia always out of sync in Athens........We have the offense.....but rebuilding defense. We have offense and defense...but defense has suspensions and underachieves. Our special teams go conservative and turn into a liability...not a game changer. Throw game coaching in there as well.......usually we have 1 hiatus game where we just do not show ...see USCe and KY in 2012. UT on several occaisons and Urbans mastery and beat downs in Jax when we should have competed better. It happens to all team on occasion....... but count on it at UGA at least once a year Lastly, it seems we get conservative at the worst times.... fall into the play not to lose approach..... Vandy this year, Michigan State Bowl game.
3. ESPN radio commentator mentioned last year that the 2 programs that seem to not live up to their hype and talent year in and year out ar Texas and UGA. These teams always have reasons as to why they fall short....at some point in time, you have to understand that it is leadership.
So, whats next?
IMHO......we keep banging as I believe we are in great position. While sick to my stomach about the Nebraska loss....2014 was not going to be our year anyway just because of the rebuild project on defense. The horrible Special teams play was a little bit of a surprise. Having 3 different punt returners against NE baffle me. Putting in Davis again to catch punts when he struggled several teams during the year just baffled me.
For 2014.. we sould win 9 or 10 regular season games......if we had Murray, I would predict a 1 loss season. I do not think Mason is an SEC title type of QB. As far as bowls go......we are 1-3 in our last 4 bowl games...I make no predictions here. The good news is that we have some great QBs in the pipeline......as well as depth in all positions. So, 2014 should be a great year to compete with double digit win season.....2015 should be as goog if not better....assuming we shore up special teams...and I think our defense will be much better next year and moving forward.
Red Dawn....... Joe Cox was actually a pretty good QB....and a DGD iMHO. He gets way too much blame for an 8-5 season as he was not good enough to carry a team that had RB issues and Coach Willie
Martinez's worst Defense that continually let the offense down.
The shootout win over Arkansas was just incredible.
Kiffin had TN ready to rumble against UGA team that did not look like they cared to be there. I wanted to vomit.....tough loss to go through.
8 months, 1 week ago on UGA Football Recruiting- Saturday
Kiffin hire is interesting. He was a great recruiter and oc under Pete Carroll. His TN team over achieved and certainly competed against Urbans Gators better than we did. Vols were a missed FG away from beating Bama that year. Also, with less talent he beat the heck out of that Mark Richt butt.
I live in TN so saw all media coverage of the Lane Kiffin era. His recruiting class was hugely talented....but lacked character. He gambled on a lot of questionable recruits.
Would have been interesting to see where TN would be today if he stayed.....he certainly brought energy and swagger. ?..and some embarrassment to UT. Him leaving UT for USC was huge Gut Punch for the Vols. USC then going on probation after he arrived was Karma at its best.
Very sad to read this and sending prayers to your niece and family.

Take some Tums! Competing is never the issue and I agree, we will coming up short when we have as good as talent if not better is the issue Bluedawg.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on UGA Football Recruiting- Monday
I am ready for us to break through........good responses. We have had the offense that could compete for a NT, but ST and Defense not there .....injuries just took us outrfor good measure.
There is always something that holds us back.......at the end of the day you have to start understanding that our leadership is also coming up short.
Sometimes luck falls into your lap....sometimes you create your own luck. Still cant get over JHC batting a pass up into the air...just do not understand wtf he was thinking or doing. Hate going offon a 19 year old...but dang son.
So here is a great question........after watching schools that border the state of Georgia play for and win national titles....why go to UGA? This staff comes up short every year for numerous reasons...but the bottom line is the program is just not totally buttoned up.
Next question........does our current staff and DC make anyone confident we will win a NT next year...or the year after?
Lastly, does Rodney Gardner look like a genius leaving Granthams staff??
Whats the word on Shaw........thought he was committing today?
8 months, 2 weeks ago on UGA Football Recruiting- Saturday
@Normaltowmdawg....don't have to worry about UGAfRicht winning any national titles. Very good HC, but not an elite HC. UGA a very good program...but not elite year in or year out. Richt is a step above Donnan...thats about it. Donnan went undefeated in bowl games, Richts last 4 bowl games @ 1-3 with losses to UCF, Michigan State and this years fiasco against Nebraska.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on UGA Football Recruiting- Thursday
Want to tell a Nebraska fan or any neutral fan that Nebraska's victory today means that UGA is the better team? Today, by virtue of their lack of mistakes as compared to Uga, by the virtue of game plan execution, by virtue of the final score.... Nebraska was the better team. Their coaches had them better prepared. Their players made less mistakes....they were the better team by virtue of their victory today.
8 months, 3 weeks ago on Gator Bowl and Gameday Thread
Our record and game performance represents exactly where UGA football is in its current state. We had seniors dropping balls and we did not play fundamentally sound.
Nebraska is the better team and program....they have a better staff as of today .....it was proven today on the field by virtue of the ultimate test..... play the game and let the best team win. The best team won today.
Next year may prove different....but that is next year.
Injuries are a part of the game......and so is recruiting, teaching, planning and execution. Desire and pride also come into play and unfortunately, this game was an example of Nebraska having more desire and pride. It starts in preparation... if you wait until kickoff, you are in a hole. Our players were not as interested this year....Nebraska was more interested as they were beat by UGA last year.
No matter how you slice it, dice it, or try to explain hoe relevant our program is.. we were outcoached and out-executed when it mattered. We were sloppy.
After last years loss in the SEC title game and Cap One bowl victory, I felt good about the program in general and felt our staff was making progress for getting usto a title.
I WILL ALWAYS SUPPORT UGA........but I am done defending this staff. If the AD made wholesale changes tomorrow, I would not lose any sleep.
Here comes "the speech"..........1. It was a tough game against a great opponent. 2. Our guys played hard and I could not be more proud of our effort. 3. We gained valuable experience to launch us into next year.
Blah blah blah.
What you will not hear..............a catastrophic special teams play lead to ......again....a point loss differential. 2. Our defense on 3rd and long gave up....yet again..a devasting play. 3. We are buttoned on clock management.
Falcons played hard.......but not good enough. Stupid play at end of game when the center snapped the ball while Ryan was calling adjustments.
At least the Saints lost the bye and the Falcons did not lose a draft position.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I saw the first game of the season where Norcross got hammered. The first Norcross/NG was also on TV. Both games were not good for LC... but Were not good for Norcross as they had not come together as a team. LC is very impressively built......I was thinking he would be a kid that could come in and compete for a starting position.......but now think he would need a year to acclimate, learn and build his bulk.
Love this site as you can always have honest conversations without the BS and emotional replies.

I agree with you! #8 stood out.
Well I did not know that.
BRB....you have a much better eye at this than I do as I tend to follow the ball. I thought LC held the edge but did not see a lot of pressure..... and come to think of it...NG did attack the center and passed quite a bit. Just did not see a dominating performance worthy of the hype.
