Sage-- I want to hear about partner category and custom audience targeting!
Kevin-- I adore your food and weight loss analogies!
So true-- social media is full of self-proclaimed pundits peddling shortcuts.
That's why the Nike slogan of "Just Do It" is so powerful to getting results of any kind.
Ric-- how do I get the table of contents for the book? I don't see it available on your Amazon page.
We have a love/hate relationship with promoted posts. They are normally so effective, but without targeting, they drive a ton of irrelevant international traffic.
If you can, use Power Editor to run page post ads targeted at fans in the newsfeed placement. You're getting the same thing as a promoted post, but better targeting. Facebook released promoted posts for folks who didn't want to learn how to use the Power Editor, which is free.
Check this out on how promoted posts can go wrong:

Check out http://www.allfacebook.com/author/dennis for some tips on Facebook ads, by the way.
Anna,
Great post! It's still the early days in Facebook advertising.
Who cares if the prices are going up, so long as you're making money?
Same was true about Google ten years ago, but we're advertising just as much as ever on AdWords now, despite prices on keywords going from a nickel to $5.
But if it's not profitable, then who cares what sort of "deal" we get on Facebook, right?
@KirkCheyfitz Kirk, I'd love to take a peek at your calculations, plus share with you data that we've been gathering on owned/earned/paid on Facebook for brands. There's a good chance we have data on brands you're monitoring. Would be killer research we could do together. Nobody else is doing as far as I know, too.
@Kamal Ravikant Ooops-- I saw Kamal's profile pic at the top of the page and assumed he was the author. I didn't realize it was a banner ad. Sorry, @KirkCheyfitz
@Kamal Ravikant -- Certainly social media has higher impact dollar-for-dollar compared to offline channels. But how do we compare a digital impression (one of the 7 tiny ads on the right side of your Facebook page) versus a 30 second TV spot? And then we have people going to social because of a TV ad they saw, and vice-versa. How do we deal with the overlap of transmedia and how they work together?
I'd love to see the model and how it's calculated, especially for differences between retailers, direct marketers, and media properties. This is fascinating stuff!
These are great reasons to use Facebook's new Custom Audience targeting as part of Power Editor. Not everyone has access to this. But if you do, be sure to read very carefully the terms under which you can upload emails, userids, and phone numbers. You must have permission to use them.
Which metrics? Easy-- conversion and cost per conversions. Just choose what a conversion is.
Eric, Ubervu is fantastic-- fast and super slick. New release coming out in a few weeks!
@Prodentite Try Lujure or wildfire.
Hi Marissa-- I'd say there was one really other reason Time got so many G+ followers. They are Time Magazine. If a brand without Time's real-world awareness tried this, they wouldn't get the same results, right?
Danny-- ninja social monitoring methods!
I use Google Alerts to grab everything except for Facebook.
We happen to have a private Facebook tool to monitor brand pages-- if you'd like access, let me know.
Hi Pavan,
While Facebook doesn't give out EdgeRank or talk much about it, there are other providers that do estimate a score. EdgeRankChecker is one.
Indya-- good point. People of like interests and ages tend to hang out together, so it probably levels out.
BradMcCarty , the game for us is not building a better mousetrap, but fundamentally changing the world by creating jobs for local marketing consultants. We sell expensive tools to enterprise companies so we can give them out to the little guys. Enough tools and we have a platform.
