5.) This year for Christmas I am giving everyone plastic-free gifts that will also help them reduce their plastic consumption. I am making homemade plastic-free laundry detergent in spagetti sauce jars I have been saving throughout the year. I am also giving out dish cloths I made out of t-shirt yarn from old t-shirts and reusable bags made from old t-shirts. All presents will be wrapped in ads that have come in the mail or magazines/newspapers.

I made dinner rolls from scratch using eggs from a cardboard carton and flour that came in a paper carton. I purchased no new plastic to make the rolls. My family used reusable plates and utensils. Overall, I believe it was a pretty low-plastic Thanksgiving! My goal is to make Christmas the same way.

Sorry this is 3 years after your post, but I just figured I would respond. I have encountered several situations like yours, where I was "accidentally" served meat. When that happens, I don't eat it after I discover the meat. I do feel bad about wasting the animal, but I have been a vegetarian for over 8 years and I honestly can't stand the thought of having an animal in my mouth. I also can't stand the taste or texture of meat anymore. I'm kind of like you as far as when meat touches my food. I don't like it, but I'm not going to freak out about it.

I also have kind of an opposite situation from you, as I have been a vegetarian for many years, but have just recently begun my plastic reduction journey this year! It's not an easy path, but I think it's one that definitely needs to be taken. Thanks for all the work you do!

@Plastic-Free Ericka Moderator I've found some stores that will let me bring my own containers for lunch meat, but other ones have also told me I can't do that. I guess it just depends on who is working and what mood they are in! I'll keep up my hunt and experiment with different stores until I am able to find one that lets me use my own containers!
