One day I will stop needing to wipe tears away at the end of reading these, but today is not that day. You have a way with words, and teaching lessons with those words Ms. Napoletano. :)

Love, love, love what you wrote. "it’s time for the conversation to shift away from gender and to lean towards talent."This is why I turned down an offer to guest blog for a blog that focuses on my view of being a "woman" in my industry. Screw that! I am a professional in my industry first. Does having a vagina make it harder to close deals (especially when dealing with a man)? Maybe. But the more you think that, the more true it becomes. And I refuse to let that be a reality.
Thank you for once again writing something so pointed and for being fearless at it. :)

Hmmm... I'm actually just starting my Facebook page, as I felt it was time in my own business pursuits to do so. One of the reasons why I did so, was because I will use it to teach people how to use Facebook for business rather than one of my client's pages.
I can see your point, however, Mike, and I think it was a good decision for you. My situation is a bit different. Since most of my friends on Facebook are friends and family and only a handful are business contacts. I suppose it all comes down to just that, a person's specific situation. Also, this is true for social media on general. Each person or company is going to find a network that will fit in with their goals and needs.
Enough rambling now...
It was a good piece, Mike. :)

@mikestenger Yep! Here's the link to the FAQ from Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=276329115767498 and their new guidelines that expands on it: https://www.facebook.com/page_guidelines.php

Great article Mike! But, then again, your stuff is always good. :)
Something I would add about the cover photo is that (according to Facebook's new guidelines) you aren't supposed to add any calls to action, contact info, etc. I think that's important to note.
Great post, Jay! I've suspected for a while that most fans have no idea what to expect from a page. Of course that might be due to the fact that every business uses them differently. I think the Welcome tab solution is sound. But, if your page is already up, then what are you to do?
This post actually inspired me to post on all the Facebook Pages I admin the question: "How do you want us to use this Facebook Page in 2012?". I'm hoping I get a lot of feedback. Maybe that will help deal with the "moving target" that is Facebook Page management.

tillypick I agree. There are some practical concerns with this. But if you staff with a higher-payed employee and their main concern is still customer satisfaction, than they should have no trouble with their perception of the job. At least, that's my take. Although, I've worked with a few companies where executives wouldn't be caught dead on social media, but as the younger work-force "grows up" maybe we'll see a drastic change in that. :)

Brankica I use Mind42.com (when I'm not just mind-mapping with pen and paper). It works pretty well and you can add all kinds of things to it, like photos, links to websites, documents, etc. Checkout this public mind-map. http://mind42.com/pub/mindmap?rel=pmb&mid=9714adfd-c470-4a8d-99a3-5fae8129ee03

Thanks for posting this Mike. Sheesh! I look washed out in that video. I'm gonna have to adjust the lighting for our next one. :)
Lol! Nice comment at the end about the 99% of Facebook's users. Once, again, I had to explain what I was laughing at!

It doesn't hurt Tumblr's reputation that people like Gary Vaynerchuck are hosting their .coms there, either. :)

Very cool! I love the Webinine concept. Also, that is a very good point. I think the main barrier to doing what you suggest is the time factor. It takes more time, obviously, to repurpose your original content and post to different sites. However, if it gets you more "fish" why not take the extra time to do it. As you pointed out getting more eyeballs on your content will make your best customer "Google" happier, and we can all do with a little more Google happiness in our lives. :)
