@Lobo I went as Steve Irwin a year before he died. Brought along a plastic crocodile and attached its mouth to my arm, wore khaki shirt and shorts, and stayed in character the whole night. It was a hit.

@Diane. 9ers fan, fap master, super ninja, hero I don't know how the internal decision-making happened, but I do know that Conte was all for clearing the signing. I don't know how strongly it was argued against by the ortho team, or whether they were even consulted at all. I know Ned was worried that Schmidt might go somewhere else. But this is where his scoffing at saber stuff bit us in the ass. There was a big drop in Schmidt's velocity over the last couple months of the 2006 season, and yet those numbers weren't even looked at.

After the details of the court case (Dodgers vs insurance co) were leaked, I used to openly speculate that Ned might have some dirt on McCourt, otherwise he would be fired. No way McCourt lets him stick around after the Schmidt shit, otherwise.

@Diane. 9ers fan, fap master, super ninja, hero It was all there in the court case. A year or two ago, Conte said that clearing the Schmidt signing was his worst mistake as a professional.

Ned's worst signing: Schmidt was by far Ned's worst deal, because his torn rotator cuff was observed on the MRI, but Ned consulted his and Schmidt's buddy Stan Conte (who the team had just hired), and Conte said Schmidt could pitch through it. And pitch f/X, or whatever was used to measure velocity at the time, showed that Schmidt's average fastball velocity had dropped several MPH toward the end of the previous season. So, according to Ned:

torn rotator cuff + major drop in velocity = 3 yrs/$47m.

@Purple Drank That's what he does with the bases empty. If there's a runner on 3B and less than two out, Slappy pops up.

Who says no? Dee and Ethier to Toronto for Mark Buehrle, who has 1yr/$20m remaining on his contract. Dodgers eat zero of Ethier's 2015 salary, and about 1/3 of his 2016 and 2017 salary.

Our big international signings of 2012 were all Logan. Engle was hired several months after Puig, Urias, and Leon were signed, and Logan had already been following Ryu for years.

@Sugar-Free Generic Grape Soda @mostly exciting potato Ned's most blatant example of overbidding was re-signing Juan Rivera. That was one of the first, if not the very first, signings of the 2011 off season and it set the market for subsequent overpays.

Thinking outside the box, what if Donny had told Haren and Kershaw before Game 3 that Haren was going to pitch the first two or three innings of Game 4, with Clayton entering the game in the 3rd or 4th?

@ tomato @The Dude Abides @BehindOrangeLines Right...I think that theory was BS, but on the other hand, the theory that he was missing location from the stretch would be accurate. Only one of those hits in the 7th ( the first one) was from the windup.

@ tomato @BehindOrangeLines Well, the theory was that he was tipping pitches in the stretch, and the 7th inning was the first time all game he'd pitched from the stretch.

What I was curious about last night, was why keep throwing from the stretch with the bases loaded? The first hit of the inning was from the windup, then everything else from the stretch. He was missing location with the stretch, so why not go back to the windup with the bases loaded? But then again, he's Clayton Kershaw and he's won the major league ERA title four consecutive seasons.
