I think the ESPN guys started the ridiculous habit of speaking in the singular when, in fact, baseball  history and tradition demand that if a guy drove in 65 runs last year, he had 65 RBIs  (not 65 RBI).  Grammatical and political correctness don't count when we're thinking of traditional ways of speaking about the Grand Old Game.
