@Jeffrey Bartl @trsimmons58 i too have enjoyed his mental meanderings. I believe the Cubs or Sox could use the left handed power of Lucic.
Would someone please explain to me what was legal about Upchuks hit?
The rat line was pretty effective last night. We're starting to get a lot more odd man rushes against the B's.

@Bullitt315 @mightymikeD @wardrums ONE OF THE BEST sporting events i ever attended was the CONCAF champioship at Soldier Field about five years ago. It pitted Mexico's national team against the US bunch. Soccer played at that level is spellbinding. Mexico had this foward, I think #21, that ran around like the ball was superglued to his feet. Soccer's version of Patrick Kane.
The US won on a penalty kick after a questionable call when one of the Mexcian defenders allegedly tripped Landon Donovan. The crowd, in Chicago mind you, was about 90% for the lads in the green and red uniforms. i was sort of glad to get back to the car unscathed,as the pro Mexican crowd was a little grumpy as we left Soldiers field. No "como se qua qua," jokes from me.

Well done oh Mighty one.
I came close to getting itno a fist fight I would have clearly lost defending Kane on Wednesday morning. i've watched a lot of Blackhawk hockey over the last 50 years and can count onone hand players like Kane that come along once in a blue moon.
Didn't it seem that when 20/65/25 were on the ice bad things were happenning for the Kings?
Does Greene get suspended for his wicked crosscheck on Shaw? A lot worse than Keiths moment of insanity IMO. Also, if he cut Chicken Hawks nose, shouldn't the penalty have been 4 minutes. Greene should be sittting a few games at the start of next season.
I liked your soccer analogy and Bick's agent foregoing the Maseratti and going straight for the Yacht!
I did not have enough courage to oprn the Dustin the Turkey clip
Hawk fans are going to start hating Bradly Marchand on his first shift against us on Wednesday - guaranteed.
I'm a win this mofo! - beautiful
Good wrap Mighty one. Looking at your mug shot though, I'm fairly convinced you are indeed Polish.
I was in Austin and Rayburn Texas this week, so only got to catch the Hawk King game in a pub called Stumps in Rayburn. The walls were decorated with the logo festooned shirts of Bass Fishing greats.
Back to civilization and getting the hawks aon a roll again tomorrow.

"He's getting the job done when his # is called." - bingo he actually made quite a few stellar saves. Avalnache only had 22 shots, but it seemed a good majority of them were precarious.
Graet caption under the phote. How did the nick name Gorilla salad come about.
Get Shorty was extremely clever- it took 5 minutes for me to figure it out. I love the scene in that movie where Hackman tells the mobster to look at him - next scene, hackman is in a body cast.

Ha, it worked - excellent wrap JMH.
"soft wrist shot from the circle" - any shot from the circle can be dangerous - I thought the initial save was a good one and it appearred for one reason or another he couldn't get a glove on it. A lot of the blogs were politely critical of R-dawg - Please stop!
I think Q was resting Rosi for Sunday - three games in four days might make him stale, but I totally agree he's our unequivocal #6 d-man. Played huge in the last two games.
Indeed, ring the bell on Johansen's goal.
I hope your love for the third line is a Platonic type love
Give Bickell a raise - Now!
The only thing I disagree with, and I noticed it on several sites, was the dismissal of the Jackets efforts. I expected a snore last night and instead was nervously enjoying the total contest. It seemed both teams opened up the governor last night. (I have no clue what a governor is, but it sounded good.)
Where's my Tazer Channelling?!?!

Great recap - it's like you were channelling my mind.
I plan on picking Fasth up in my Faantasy League this morning.
I only saw the third period and OT, as I drove home from the saloon after two beers I thought to myself, "Did the Hawks have any shots in the third period?
Good to see Cor-dawg keep on rolling.

At least we'll be rested. If Corey stands tall, I like our chances - the confidence level is palpable. Hell, Lababreba, or whatever his name is, probably prevented two more scores.
one of my concerns is the team letting up. Hell, with 20 points they sure are not in a desperation mode.
My feelings exactly as far as the gentleman above encouraging Smith!

"Fleckman Fartson or whatever your name is?" - great channelling.
Great picture of Toews - man he's playing at a high level right now.
Toews has apparently not forgotten the cheap shot that may have started the concussion problems last year. I can't remember when I saw !9 so mad. Thorton is a cheap shot artist and really needs a good ass kicking - you know, someone to straighten him out, send him a message.
Thanks for putting the late night effort into the "Boxing" - I really didn't expect to see anything this early today.
Did I see Q putting Saad out there on the PK? He sure does not look like a rookie - hopefully the flood gates have opened for the promising winger.
Brian Bickell was a one man wrecking ball. Excellent!
Saad, Shaw and Freddy scoring never bodes well for the opposition. When they do it on the same night, well, game over bitches.
I don't know what to think about Keith's defense of Mayers. One part of me says "Kick his ass, Seabass," and the other agrees with your assesment - loved the Lou brown quote- where did you dig that one up.
Is it just me, or does it seem the teams we play really pinch their defensemen a lot.
crawford made a lot of huge saves - he swatted one rediredt away with his glove like it was an annoying fly.

Good wrap and Box. And yes Captain, I must adnit I did fear thw worst. Forgive me, it won't happen again.
i was watching the proceedings at a friends and said, "Boy, the way things are going I'd settle for one point tonight."
leddy's rush reminded me of campbell a bit. Nan he's been playing well. All in all, Rosival looked pretty good to me. I'm not sure what the responsibilities were on that play, but it seemed Leddy could have slid over to pick up Whitney - hell of a shot by the old geezer.
I've really like Cor-dawg's play so far. Does the puck trickling through the five hole mean he's going down a fraction of a second too late? It looked like Toews waited for Lehtonen to drop before he obliterated the upper corner. Two trampoline shots on our last two goals. You know that's right.
Hjarmal's continue's to play as if Keith is inhabiting his body
Finally, Erickson is a bitch. I've had him on my Fantasy team the last three years and the guy just keeps producing. if the play of Brent Seabrook is our biggest concern...well we just might be in for a pretty good season.

hard to pin that one on crow IMO. wasn't great, but that was the worst defensive effort i've seen all year.

You lucky dog! It's almost like you made that story up. It better be placed in a prominent spot in your home, it's obviously a good luck charm, possibly another affirmation that Q knows something we don't know.
On Toews first goal, I was listening on the radio and troy murray pointed something out. It took Keith a few secoonds to pull the trigger on that shot. Troy said he himself was thinking , "Shoot, shoot it," and then he realized Keith was waiting for soem traffic to materialize in front of the net. As much as I love Scott, I don't think he makes that play.
Brunette's assist was a beauty, I'm starting to like him more and more. Especially on our 2nd PP unit. don't ask me why but Bolls/Freddy/Bruno/Leddy/Montador has been in beast mode. Don't mees with this,Q

Zach - I thought Bickell played quite well, he was saking and hitting and his breakaway attempt unfortunately was absorbed by the goalie the hawks should have kept (just kidding - IMO Corey's as good.)

The Sedin's faces nauseate me also.
good point about the difference in our blue lines. I was starting to mess my pants last night when we iced the puck and our 3rd or 4th line was stuck on the ice with Leddy and Fluffy - how the hell did that ever happen? Hall, Nugent and Eberle jumped over the boards like they were shot out of a cannon. I think all three of them were drooling.
I think we won a crucial face off fortunately or the score could have been 5-4 with plenty of time left.
By the way, I've read most of the Hawk sites and really haven't read much about Scott - in my minds eye, he didn't seem to play all that bad last night.
2 years, 8 months ago on Monty Steve's Leaving for the Circus: Hawks 6 vs Oilers 3 | November
@Modry-Jazyk ya know, I was in the Scott get off the ice band wagon also, but realize Scott was not the first defenseman to get skated around. The one thing he did do ok was get the puck out of our zone. Not defensing Scott by any means, but Lady Luck is a bigger issue in my limited observations.
Holding my breath to see if Bolland skates on Thursday. That foot has to be a little swollen.
The fact is, you play harder when the chips are on the line. That game last Sunday was a must win for Vancouver -(ok I exaggerate a little) A cornered rat fights hardest, when your on top of the Division you have a tendency to let up a bit. Sort of the three goal lead scenario.
Duncan Keith was the best player on the ice last night. and Oshies shot was a laser. I know a lot of the erstwhile goalies watching the game could have stopped that blistering wrister. However, I really can't pin this one on crow.

"prison reunion party!" - you're sick
took your advice, actually you confirmed the goalie I was leaning towards.
One last thing - could you do a frame by frame analysis of O'Donnell clearing the puck in the begginning of the third? Maybe give it the subtitle, "What went wrong."
@Scott13 i think that there's a good chance that's Schultz and Donahue, or vice versa, at the office Christmas party last year.
love these "breakdowns" of the positional breakdowns of the goals.
Now on to more serious matters - never show the picture of those two guys again and who do I start tonight Corey of Miller?
@KellyPuckDrunk As much as I like lines to stick together, Q changing them up seemed to have a positive effect on the third period. Maybe he wanted to see what Stals could do wiith Toews.
100% of the shots not on net don't go in. Actually, that type of shot could quickly lead to a odd man rush the other way. That would have really sucked.
Funny thing, when our group divided up season tickets this year, the Av's were low on the totem pole. as Jerry Garcia sang,
"Goes to show, you don't always know,
watch each card you play,
and play it slow,
Don't you let that deal go down."
I personally hate the skills portion of an NHL game. After beating the hell out of each other for 65 minutes a team gets an extra point so fair weather fans can get excited. Nothing wrong with a tie.
2 years, 9 months ago on Pouring Like an Avalanche, Coming Down the Mountain - Hawks lose Beer Pong Match to Avs 5-4 | October
i WAS WONDERING what was going on when Q took Frolik's stick.
The line change in the third seemed to work - once again it appeared we were badly outplayed in the second. No use sitting on a pat hand if its's a pair of ducks. I thought Stalberg played like a man on a mission.
Monty's shot didn't miss by that much, but a hard shot on goal might have led to a rebound with the other 8 Hawks converging on the net at that point.
@ChicagoNativeSon cNS - one other thing about Monty- there was a little extracurricular activity after a stop in play. Players giving facials with their gloves etc. All of the sudden Montador is in the middle of it with a real mean scowl on his face. When he is on the ice, his teamates know someone has their back. "Don't fuck with my teamates, any of them." - steve Montador
2 years, 9 months ago on Hawks 3, Avs 1
@Scott13 I don't know, it was so much more descriptive than saying they were skating circles around their opponent
Your picture and caption from the captain were as good as any photo shop. Kruger limited his mistakes in the third, I think. He's probably trying to do to much.

2 years, 9 months ago on Short Shifts, Sniper Shots - Blackhawks win 3-1 in Colorado | October
"Loosening the belt buckle after Thanksgiving dinner!" yeah, that's exactly how it felt. When Colorado scored I did think we were in trouble, and doubted even Corey could stem the tide of Hurricane Katrina. The Avs had a dominat second period in my mind.
Also, good note about the thin air. We visit friends in Fort Collins regularly, and it definitely is something to contend with-helps to roll four lines, no? Stals played pretty well last night I thought. Despite the thin air, another problem you encounter around the Mile High city is flatulence-you tend to pass a lot of gas. I'd like Stacie fro SCH blog to weigh in on this. Tell us s-dog, were you leaning sideways in your seat at all last night?
@cliffkoroll question, who would you play tonight in a Fantasy League; Miller vs. the Panthers or Crawford?
2 years, 9 months ago on Righting the ship?
@e.kim Epimetheus vs, prometheus. Often what separates the greats from the also rans. Three of the best examples I can think of that trait are Gretzky, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. they all played anti-beehive soccer.

I thought #4 looked pretty good last night. He seems to have a hop in his step thaty was missing last year.
And in defensre of Keith, well, sometimes you can lose an edge on those double rudders.
John, Lost in all the mind numbing analysis of the erhstwhile Norris Trophy winner, (should I stay or should I go now), was perhaps the best part of your magnificent post yesterday

the picture of Toews/Sharp/Brunette lined up together is priceless.
A brilliant analysis - wow! I was talking to a friend yesterday who coached at Mt. Carmel H. S. He told me the one thing he sees the hawks needing to improve on was "Team Defense." I asked him what he meant and he basically said what you so meticulously demonstrated in this post.
Although, being much more visual than cerebral, your pictures really tell a compelling story.
A great, great, great post.
Sam has a unique way of describing things; on Emery - "Whoa, shit, there it is" and on the 2/8 pairing "making sure Pepto still stays in business."
I liked your comment on 7/4 "this pairing has been lightas out in a shutdown role."
I also noted that pass by toews was highly ill-advise - even my daughter wondered why he just didn't tie it up as long as he could. (memories of game 5 vs. Nashville flashed across my mind.)
the Car Bomb analysis was dead on and I think it was as much Hossa's fault as #13's. That was the only time anyone slowed 891 down all night!
Market the shirt - i guarantee you will sell some outside the U. C. (Maybe on that back put, "Puck? What puck?"
2 years, 9 months ago on Photoshop Of The Day: CarBomb, Thoughts On Hawks 4-3 Win Over Jets
@ChicagoNativeSon@e.kim I knew someone noted that about Brunette, wasn't sure who. He also had another prime scoring chance, last night. He is very clever with the puck. While he's not slow as molasses in January, he might have to cherry pick to keep up with 19 and 10.
e.kim - your description of #13 was perfect "Carcillo worked hard."
2 years, 9 months ago on Much Ado About CarBomb: Hawks Host Winnipeg Thrashers
In the Sun Times Kaner noted that carcillo seemed to fit in pretty goos with "our line." Looks like he's claiming dibs on dat Horsa guy.
Great Shakespeare qoute! - you don't get that kind of edumacation at the SCH website(but they have more pictures) Doesn't Hossa look like he's saying, "I love you this much!)
Kane did nice at the dot again - go figure.
One last observation - it has to do with Brunette not keeping up. On one rush, Toews made a pretty blind pass to a wide open Brunette. Only problem was he led him! Missed him by "that muc." "(about 10 feet.)
It's becoming clearer and clearer to me why I was so confused with the lines on Saturday.
2 years, 9 months ago on Q's Random Line Generator - The Dallas Games
@flahawkfan In all honesty, I wear a #2 sweater. but he does do all those little things, against the toughest competiton, while logging over 25 minutes/night. One of the best stats Saturday was he only had to skate about 23 minutes. Your right about saying "nice play" on some of the defensive takeaways - those words also came out of my mouth. i'm not even sure who I would try to compare Keith to as far as his style.
I think a lot of people agreed with your assessment of Kruger - he was motoring about the pond like a snowmobile in the UP.
My normal seats are upstairs also, but I got to sit in the company suite on Saturday. In between periods I was walking back to the suite when I saw Stan Bowman walking by hiself. I started to kick his ass for trading away the championship team - JK - actually just said, "Nice job on the team this year Stan." He gave me a great smile, said thanks and then went back into deep thought. Leddy and Morin were two other great deals he orchestrated. Although I miss Campbell dearly, we have some, as John Mayall once sang, "Room to move."
Sigh - major sigh - remember the $10 seats in Teows and Kanes rookie year?
2 years, 9 months ago on Thoughts on the Hawks opening weekend
@cliffkoroll CK - did you write the above piece?
I think we'd all like that calmer ride - although it seems like everygame you play in this league is a struggle. Even the least of NHL teams are still pretty darn good. I think that was one thing so special about the Championship season - the number of blowouts we had. It seems like most hockey games are decided by a goal or two-I have no stats to back that up, but as you know most of my observations are based on generalities.
It's a lot less stressful watching a game when we have a two goal lead - I have enough grey hair already.
I believe it was Phillip Larsen that 36 obliterated. And I believe he said F-you as Larsen headed for the ice. What I really noticed on the play was how quickly Seabs came flying in to restore order. Twice this preseason I've seen Seabs fly into the mix when Bolland was being unfairly singled out for alleged misconduct. Good to see a don't mess with our skill players attitude developing on this team.
Keith appears to have a renewed energy level this year - not a good sign for our opponents. He chased down 2 or 3 Star fowards who had a step on him. Still like him paired with Seabs. Funny how players skate in on Keith and how erasily he thwarts their best efforts. Sort of a "Sorry meatball, I've seen that move."
Liking Mayers m,ore and more everytime he takes the ice. And not because he dropped the gloves - the dude can play hockey.
Kruger flew around the ice - yes, more of that please.
Sharps goal was the best of the night - what a herculean effort. i'm begginning to like #10.
I also like the way Montador plays - very physical and with a someone pooped in my Cheerio's attitude.
no chinks in Corey's underarmour yet. Gardner noted something that I failed to pick up on the great save on the Sharp miscue that left Ott wide open in the slot. "He soaked up the puck - no rebound." A great save, but if there were a rebound it would have spelled disaster.
