@deedrag @SatsMundin that would be a great deal for us, although I'm not sure COL would take it, maybe if they lost Stastny, didn't want to pay ROR and wanted to trade him for a replacement centre.  It would be smart to sell high on Bozak right now, he lucked his way to a high shooting percentage this year, and will not have a PPG near as good as he had this year. Getting anything of value for him is a win.

@deedrag Man, ROR is 5x the hockey player Bozak will ever be.. He had a bit of an off year from a possession standpoint, but is still 1000x better than Blowzak.

@Bruffins @SatsMundin  Corsi has been shown to correlate more to future victories than victories themselves.  They certainly aren't the be all end all but as you said, it's absurd that the Leafs didn't spend a dime of their analytics budget. In a cap league, the richesty teams have to use their resources outside of player salaries to give themselves a competitive advantage and the fact that hte leafs didnt even look into it is absolutely unbelievable.

@Bruffins @SatsMundin  LOL, I'm aware.  I said it during the last summer, to defend Grabo and Mac A, and noone had any of it. I was laughed out of the forum.  Look how that worked out.

I came back in January, predicting our demise and was again laughed out of the forum.  I think people will start to see the light soon.  Many I'm sure deny adv stats because they know the Leafs don't use them and don't want to think that what the Leafs are doing is stupid.  But with Shanahan embracing them, and (hopefully) a new coach who does too, I think people will turn around on the issue.

@lukethenuke @Bruffins @SatsMundin  this is exactly what I wanted to do.  It's looking more and more like the Biggs pick was just a wash, doesn't seem like there are gonna be too many really good players in the 5 or so picks directly behind him.  I liked our strategy of taking late-birthday guys and hope we continue that this year, and maybe bring it in to the first round.  Really hoping we go high risk/reward with this pick.

@Bruffins @SatsMundin  exactly.  I was really hoping we'd take someone with 1st/2nd line potential.  This year, I really hope we take a home run swing in the first round and avoid going after yet another lower ceiling player.  Thanks to Randy, we've got another high pick and I hope we can use it well.. Ehlers would be really nice.

@Komas Taberle @SatsMundin  Biggs looks horrible in the AHL, but you're right, Gauthier likely will be in the NHL.. However, we already have plenty of 3rd/4th line prospects, and I would have much preferred to take a higher ceiling prospect, even if it required a riskier player like Petan or Shinkaruk.

Wow. Great to see. Looks like Johnson can make up for the dud Gauthier pick much like Leivo hopefully will make up for the dud Biggs pick. Also good to see Nilsson was in the running, our scouting in Sweden seems to be doing well, although the jury is still out on these guys.

@wendelsfist @SatsMundin @Bobsyouruncle @DWCMLHS our goaltending is (and should stay) above average, which will allow us to be slightly better than our differential would suggest.  However, our goalies have regressed lately and are more likely to play like they have in the last 30 games than th first 15, and our shootin% is likely to continue regressing and bringing us further down.

@wendelsfist @SatsMundin @Bobsyouruncle @DWCMLHS hilarious.  You clearly don't understand the concept of regression.  A bad corsi last year may have allowed luck to fuel us to victory, but the underlying corsi is more indicitive of FUTURE success than wins.  This means it predicted (rightly) that we would suck this year.  We got off to a lucky start again and are currently REGRESSING to where we should be.  You're right, 45 games is too small a sample, and this current sample OVERESTIMATES how good the Leafs are.  Our luck will continue to regress and we will continue to slide in the future.

We have had fewer injuries than the AVERAGE team, we've been LUCKY.. JVR, Kessel, Dion, Reimer and Bernier have been healthy ALL YEAR. THERE IS NO EXCUSE.

@Xxxxxnew  I realize fully that points aren't everything, but it's pretty sad that the leafs are balking at giving him 4M after giving Clarkson (who had 5 less points as a forward and with more pp time) 5.25M and Bozak (ditto, albeit with more pts than clarkson, but while playing with Phil fucking Kessel) 4.2M

@MattmarkThis is Nonis paying for his awful signings. Had he kept Grabo, and let Bozak walk, he would have saved himself $2.55M altogether by buying out Liles instead. If he had done that, and then not given away Frattin + a 2nd for a minor upgrade at backup goalie, he could have also saved himself another $2M having Scrivens over Bernier. That would be $4.55M in extra savings to sign Franson, with IMO a better roster, but nope, Nonis had to make this his team. This doesn't even consider the savings he could have had by not spending a bajillion dollars on Clarkson. Dark days ahead friends.

hopefully we get Franson long term soon and let Fraser walk, our D to start next year would then be:

Dion-Gunnar

Gardiner-Franson

Liles-Ranger

Granburg, Rielly, Blacker

Hopefully by the deadline, Liles can play his way into being traded at the deadline to a team desperate for a veteran d-man, and then one of blacker, granburg or rielly can step up
