Austin Daye is not anyone's idea of an stopper, but since he's young and has the same body type as Durant, I'd like to see him thrown on him for a couple minutes. When Pop thinks Marco can keep up with Durant (or LeBron) that's when the Spurs are screwed.

Also Splitter looked useless out there, might as well have gone small. I'm not a big Cory Joseph fan but this is a case where he could've been useful.

Thanks Stack "Dream Killer" 36.  I think Spurs fans realize it's a looooooong way to go.  Harden and Durant are going to be really scary obstacles to overcome. (Not worried out Clippers or Blazers.)

Charles Barkley remains unconvinced.  Guess he wants to get booed extra loudly when he's in SA for the Finals.

Nobody wants Jamison.  That's why I see him landing with the Spurs as Matt Bonner Chokes In Playoffs insurance.

@jaws3 @BurkhartBrandon  Well I certainly hope the pattern changes, but I've been a Spurs fan since 1989 and it seems like we'll only get a "name" player after no one else wants them.  Even franchise heroes like Steve Kerr, Mario Elie, Michael Finley, Brent Barry and Robert Horry signed with the Spurs long after the rest of the league stopped coveting them.  Of course, those guys all played on title teams, so it worked out.  Didn't have the same success when we got senior citizen Antonio McDyess.

Even a case like Stephen Jackson, we had him before his career took off, he left to play with several other teams during his prime, and then he didn't get excited to play for the Spurs again until he was washed up.

I'm getting especially annoyed when players like Josh Howard and Caron Butler say "I was so close to signing with the Spurs."  Then do it, morons.  Josh Howard comes crawling to us when his career is shot, after wasting his good years in Utah and Washington.  I won't be surprised if we sign Granger or Butler in four years when those guys can barely play.  Just like I'm expecting the Spurs to sign Metta World Peace now that he can barely move.

@jaws3  When you say you would not want to live in LA, NYC, or Miami, you talking about your own personal taste. You need to put yourself in the shoes of a rich NBA player.

The elephant in the room:  NBA players don't want to live in San Antonio if they have a choice.  That's why SA will keep losing out to LA, NY, Miami, etc. when American free agents who have several suitors are picking a landing spot.  Foreigners like Belinelli, Mills, and Diaw are cool with San Antonio because they're happy to be playing in the NBA and the city they do it in makes much less of a difference to them.

What's funny is some Clippers fans on the ESPN boards were really excited when their team signed Stephen Jackson a couple of months ago.  I said that Jackson was terrible now, and they jumped on me, calling me an idiot.  Then SJax went on to score like four points for their team before getting cut.

The headline is "Don't Panic" but the article gives the specific reason that Spurs fans should panic, i.e., we can't stop any of the superstars on the contending teams.

The problem I have with Shannon Brown is the same problem I have with Josh Howard and that I had with Eddy Curry, Tracy McGrady, and Antonio McDyess. We get these kinds of players only when it's been years since anyone else in the NBA wanted them.  Boris Diaw is the only one of these reclamation projects that has worked out for us since back in the Robert  Horry/Brent Barry days.  (Although I loved TJ Ford until his injury).

Would've been exciting to get Shannon Brown 3 years ago.  Hopefully he'll surprise me and be more of a Diaw than a McGrady.  But so far he's shown nothing but the ability to be a warm body.

This is confusing.  Spurs are terrible at rebounding, which the bigger Thomas would obviously be better at than 6-5 Jeffers.  Thomas couldn't make a shot in his one appearance, but he got 9 rebounds!  It's going to be painful watching another 6-5 wing getting plowed over for rebounds by opposing players.

I'm actually less worried about the Warriors with Iguodala in there instead of Jack.  Jack is the kind of strong combo guard the Spurs always have trouble guarding.  He could always get hot and rain threes on the Spurs.  I don't remember Iguodala ever causing the Spurs problems when he was with Philly or Denver.  In that playoffs series, the Spurs figured out that if they can shut down Klay Thompson, then Curry can't beat us by himself, as great as he is.  Bogut staying healthy enough to play at an All Star level is what the Spurs should be concerned about.

Stephen Jackson 2.0 .... meaning he'll play some awful minutes, get benched, wrongly think he's still as good as he was five years ago, whine about his role, and get cut.

@JeffProjectSpurs  My team:  SF Detlef Schrempf; PF Dirk Nowitzki; C Arvydus Sabonis; SG Drazen Petrovic; PG Tony Parker.  I gave Schrempf the slight edge over Kukoc and Stojakavic because he was athletic and played defense.  Sabonis was the best passing big man of all time, could hit 3s (!!), and was pretty much the best defender to play against prime Shaq (with apologies to the Admiral, who was too skinny to bump Shaq out of the post), so he beats out Pau & Marc Gasol.

Parker gets edge on Peja because he does more than just score, but you can't be too mad a Divac, since he was humble enough to not include himself.  I would start Parker and make Peja the Sixth Man.

Magette reciprocated the Spurs' interest about five years too late.  If he can't dominate preseason scrubs, he's going to be a liability in real NBA games.  Spurs have been digging through the NBA scrapheap over the past couple of months, as if Magette, Young, or freakin' Mike Bibby would pan out.  I actually had a weird dream last night that the Spurs forgave Stephen Jackson and resigned him.

Is it just me, or does it feel like the NBA hardly gave the Spurs any preseason games this year?  By the time they play their 2nd game, some teams will have already played 4 or 5.  Poor Magette must be bursting at the seams to get out there.

Tony Parker picking up his game makes Westbrook less scary for the Spurs.  Our key to beating them going forward is Kawhi Leonard.  Kawhi versus Durant is our new Bowen versus Kobe.  Kawhi is not going to stop Durant, of course, but he can make him work hard to get those points and if he scores anywhere clost to what Durant scores in their matchup, the Spurs have really good chance to win..
