@~Keon I disagree. As long as he has Gandler representing him, we shouldn't expect any sort of loyalty or preferential treatment.
A lot of Leaf fans will be disappointed once he goes to the highest bidder.

Kadri and Kane will make great linemates next season. I can already see them dropping hundreds on the ice saying, "Make it rain!".

I know there has been a lot of talk about Leo Komarov in these comments, but we need to remember that his agent is Mark Gandler. The guy is going to the highest bidder, whether that is here, or overseas.

@mike_84 @Tim Horton @leafersutherland And I imagine Biggs will still prove to have the highest upside of them all.
@Tim Horton @leafersutherland @mike_84 I suspect Broll has a batter shot than Devane. Albeit Mike is probably right. Another year of seasoning will probably be needed.
@mike_84 Broll would be a good choice if he can ever begin to feel that he belongs in this league and throws his weight around.
@mike_84 Energy guys are hitters, no?

@4evrblue @leafersutherland @dlb meh @~Keon Better men?! Now I do believe the voices are inside your head.
@4evrblue @leafersutherland @dlb meh @~Keon Could be the wind tunnel between the ears.
(Not really an insult as much as it's a saying.)
@4evrblue @leafersutherland @dlb meh @~Keon Heh. You do realize that we're writing to each other, no?
@4evrblue @leafersutherland @dlb meh @~Keon Nope. I have my volume turned off right now.
@4evrblue @leafersutherland @dlb meh @~Keon Bad contracts are bad contracts. They occur on all 30 NHL clubs. Doesn't make a GM bad... just makes him less of a fortune teller.
@4evrblue @dlb meh @~Keon With that line of thinking, I suppose Detroit should fire Holland for Weiss' contract?
@dlb meh You'd have to throw in our 1st in 2015 to barely have a shot at 3rd overall.

@Jordan29 Well to be fair, I only brought him up to discuss what he might have done to our dormant powerplay.
@CanuckUKinToronto @leafersutherland Unfortunately, I agree.
@Knights2Leafs @leafersutherland Couldn't have, given that Holland and Granberg were called up once all was lost.
We typically look outside for help, but what if TJ Brennan were re-signed in order to replace Cody Franson?
I think when the powerplay went south in the later half of the season, he should have been called up for his shot alone.

@~Keon Keep in mind that when we managed just 3 wins in our last 16 games, one of them was the result of playing Burke's current team.
The biggest storyline for this team this summer, will not be what happens to Randy Carlyle, Phaneuf's captaincy, or will we land a new centre for Kessel.
The biggest question will be, "can management/ownership continue to be patient with Gardiner and Kadri?

@Cameron19 Balloon meet reality pin.
@CanuckUKinToronto @mike_84 @leafersutherland I think we would need a trade up scenario.

@mike_84 @leafersutherland If that's the case, Ehlers is the easy pick.
@mike_84 @leafersutherland Mentioned two comments above.
My sleeper pick would be Conner Bleackley.
@mike_84 @leafersutherland Ritchie has a history of head and shoulder injuries and his skating worries me. Love the size though.
@mike_84 @leafersutherland Yeah, I don't have those guys too far apart. Same with William Nylander.
My personal top 8...
1. Aaron Ekblad
2. Sam Bennett
3. Sam Reinhart
4. Michael Dal Colle
5. Leon Draisaitl
6. Jake Virtanen
7. Nikolaj Ehlers
8. Brendan Perlini
@Burtonboy @The_Polish_Cannon @rustynail I do agree that nothing should be completely ignored... but then again people were using stats last summer to suggest that Reimer was superior to Bernier.
I think fans are far more guilty of dismissing their observance skills, over their calculated ones.

@Mind Bomb @leafersutherland @Pent_House @ingy56 Where's Tom Kurvers when you need him?
@Mind Bomb @leafersutherland @Pent_House @ingy56 You're right.
Impatience is the way to go!
@rustynail @darthNihilus Even if it were deadly accurate, it doesn't really say much. Giving the puck away to a Colton Orr is a lot different than giving a puck away to a Pavel Datsyuk.
@Mcost61 @leafersutherland Sounds very familiar.
When a team loses, it is the fault of the system.
@Mcost61 @leafersutherland So Tampa Bay lost last night because of Cooper and his players were at a disadvantage because of his system?
Or did they lose because they were outclassed both on defence and in net?
@darthNihilus Trouba gets a pass for being a kid mind you.
@darthNihilus @leafersutherland So an obvious improvement in that category, despite his late season collapse.
Interesting... although not surprising.
@darthNihilus Any idea on how many giveaways Dion was credited with last year?
@Mind Bomb @Pent_House @ingy56 Couldn't disagree with you more.
The only road to better days ahead, goes through patience and development.
If the Leafs were to get rid of Dion this summer on the hopes that Reilly can be given that type of responsibility next year... banking on him being an improvement, despite having no real proof that the kid is ready to play against the best our opposition has to give us when he struggled defensively while given sheltered minutes,
That would be a risk that no GM in his right mind would ever make in this league. And it would be a risk no GM's job would ever survive.
If Phaneuf were let go, who would be available to take over for the #1 defender on this team... and be an improvement over him? Free agency looks bleak, not that we look great to UFAs looking to contend for Cups. Good #1s are rarely traded, and it's probably not yet safe to appoint one of our kids before they can acquire at least one consistent season under their belts.
So how do you improve the position by simply letting someone go without having a plausible replacement? Or are we ready to put Gunnarsson in that role?

@.JVR. You say that would be huge... and yet you've only added back Komarov and some poor 18 year old kid.
1 week, 1 day ago on 2014 NHL Draft Lottery – Harnessing the Power of 3.6%
4 decisions to make this summer if you were the GM.
1. No matter how many fantasy team re-hauling scenarios we might come up with, the majority of this roster will return next season. Teams simply don't turn over 20 players at a time. So what would you do to make sure many of these returnees play some defence this next season?
2. We got ourselves another pick in the top 10 at the draft and can turn that into a positive with the right selection. Let's say there are no real trade opportunities for us, who do you select?
3. David Clarkson will be back. That much is guaranteed. So what can be done to put him in a better position to succeed?
4. Free Agency. Not only who you might be interested in picking up, but who might you choose to let walk for nothing?
@Belfour20/JB-45 I don't want RC gone. I just know he will be.
1 week, 1 day ago on Five Questions on Barry Trotz
All in all, I think our next head coach needs to be the type of guy that can improve both Kadri and Gardiner and allow them to reach their potential.
Trotz doesn't feel like that guy.
@Pent_House @leafersutherland I've seen a lot of games with Laviolette behind the opposition's bench. I can't say I ever recalled thinking to myself, "Damn, we got out-coached tonight!"
@Jay31 He just stole that off of Dave Hodge... who said that they were offered those two for Iginla and turned them down.
@Pent_House @leafersutherland Not exactly disqualifying a Cup. Just not sure I would necessarily appoint someone based on what they managed to accomplish in 2006.
Frankly..., and I still cringe at Burke's initial press conference, I couldn't give a rats ass how many Cups someone might have won in the past. I would base my opinions on all the criterea that might allow me to believe that they could win one in the future.
@Pent_House @leafersutherland Ahh yes... barely squeezing by the Buffalo Sabres and the Edmonton Oilers.
Those were the days.
