If you want defense and shooting, then please target CJ Miles! The guy is a long, rangy 6'7 guy who's athletic and can shoot the 3. We got a whole on our bench at the shooting guard position and he would be a great fit there of the bench. It's not always about getting the bigtime names. Sometimes is about building depth and getting good role players. CJ Miles seems like a good glue guy of the bench with playoff experience.

I think Ben McLemore will be a star (not superstar) in this league but that's only going to happen if that 3 point shot he had in college can soon translate over to the pros. It'll happen, hopefully by next year. When he gets that down, I think the next step for him should be to develop a game similar to Ray Allen/Reggie Miller/Rip Hamilton where they constantly run around the court and come off screens to get open and shoot 3s. I know it's extremely difficult to do and I'm jumping way ahead of myself since he can't even shoot the 3 but if he could do that, we would have a huge weapon in our hands.

I'd be happy if McLemore developed into a Gerald Green like player. Green was dropping 41 on someone the other night. It's quite a drop tho for McLemore considering that many were comparing him to Ray Allen, Reggie Miller, and Rip Hamilton

@NinerDude Thanks man! It's pretty sad because I feel like our offense should be top 10. We got the names like Crabs, Boldin, Davis, Gore, LMJ, Hunter, and Kap. Yet we are an average, middle of the league offense. And the worst part is, since our offense can't even stay on the field long enough, our defense has to do more, like more plays on the field, and eventually they break down. We put so much pressure on our defense, I love those guys man and I feel so bad for them! Our offense needs to get its act together and that starts with giving the "Roman Empire" the boot!

1) First of all, teams don't always do trade if its best for all teams and you know that. Lopsided trades like Chris Paul or Dwight Howard trade didn't work out for everyone.

2) Why do people walk around like Lamb is an extremely valuable piece. I know he was the 12th pick in the draft and he's a good developing player but he doesn't have any skill to count on. Jimmer can atleast shoot. And like I said, they need immediate impact, not talent that needs time to develop. OKC wants to compete for a title right now. Thornton is expensive but atleast they're getting rid of Perks salary.

3) Salaries do match thats why it worked

@discocricketPerkins can be a serviceable veteran center who provides defense for a rebuilding team like the Kings. He doesn't have to do anything offensively on this team especially with Cousins as our center next to him. He just has to teach the players about defense when he's on the floor, telling IT and others where to go. Lamb is a young player who is still developing while Thornton and Jimmer can make immediate impact. I think a lot of people overrate Lamb because he was the 12th pick but he isn't going to be amazing. I can see them parting with Lamb

My trade: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lygjk52

Why Bucks do it:
Gary Neal is causing problems in the locker room and getting in spats with star player Larry Sanders. They can get rid of him and Udoh and in return get a veteran player like Thompson to mentor Henson. Outlaw is just in there to make contracts work. Plus Bucks seem to be tanking.

Why T'Wolves do it:
They need more scoring and shooting since starting PG Rubio is still developing a jump shot. Neal brings a veteran presence with playoff experience and shooting which is something the Wolves need and will not get out of Shved.

Why Thunder do it:
Westbrook went down with an injury and Reggie Jackson has been moved to the starting lineup, which leaves the backup PG spot to Derek Fisher. Jimmer Fredette can shoot the ball just as well as Fisher. But that's not all as Jimmer can put the ball on the floor and score as well. Thornton can also score and is still young. OKC needs some scoring off the bench to fill in the void that was left by Harden and K-Mart leaving, and while Lamb is a good player, he is still developing and the Thunder will get more instant impact from them. The combo of Thornton and Jimmer can fill that need for scoring and shooting. Plus Kevin Durant really likes Jimmer.

Why Kings do it:
Kings will finally get a big man to play defense next to Cousins with the addition of Perkins. Kings will get a backup PG in Shved. Kings will get rid of Thompson and switch him with Udoh. And Lamb will be a good player to develop with McLemore.

Look everyone understands the Kings are bad. But there are a few bright spots. IT has been bright a few times this season but you're right when he looks for his own, we tend to do badly. But its funny you make it sound like being a homer means you understand nothing whereas in actuality, the country you're talking about is the one who doesn't understand because they don't follow closely enough. Cousins has toned down in temper flares quite a bit but its nonchalant bandwagon fans such as yourself who think he is still a cancer. And I guarantee you if the owners chose to put Cousins on the trade block, the ignorant coaches you are talking about would come running with trade offers. And the voting for the rest of the All-Star roster by the coaches hasn't happened yet, so there's still a chance Cousins makes the All-Star team. Stick to loving BYU because dealing with casual fans who don't really know much and believe what they hear is no fun.

You're just a Jimmer lover and an IT hater. IT can still be a good bench, backup PG. Jimmer can also still be a good, undersized shooting guard kind of like Jason Terry if Jimmer is used correctly in the right system, which is definitely not the Kings. But you guys praise Jimmer way too much. He's not worthy of starting in this league. Look it's simple to see that after all this discussion, everyone can see how this team has a bunch of players who don't fit well at all. This is basically a year in transition for the new management as they try to shape the roster the way they want it and tank to get a high pick.

Actually I just searched your entire earlier comment and didn't find the word defense in it. But still I'm glad you agree that we need a defensive PF/C next to Cousins to truly bring out the best from him and this team. IT is definitely not the right person for the starting PG role but he can be a sparkplug off the bench for us. It's funny because the guy who would have fit well with Gay and Cousins was the PG traded away to bring in Gay. That player of course is Grieves Vasquez. He was the pass first PG that could balance out who needs to get the ball and score. But Malone would barely play him and he was traded away. Maybe we can sign him in the summer. I don't really like the idea of Rondo because first of all we would have to give up a lot to get him. And secondly, he is coming off of a major injury and he may never return to his preinjury form or could get reinjured like we've seen from Rose, Westbrook, and Bryant.

So now that we both know that PG and defensive PF/C are needs for the Kings, who would you draft if you were the GM of the Kings? Dante Exum, Marcus Smart, Joel Embiid, or Noah Vonleh?

Dude you're not listening. This team will not get better because we don't have the defensive kind of players to get better. We have ZERO defensive specialist or players known for playing defense. If we had a wing/perimeter defender or shot blocker, then I wouldn't be making these comments about the team. But since no one will give a defensive player to us in a trade, I have to focus on the players we have and call out their defensive effort. If you really expect Cousins to guard ITs man when that player blows pass a 5'10 guy and then expect him to guard Thompson's man when he blows past the forever-fouling Thompson, and then rush all the way back on offense and play his offensive game, then you are absurd. There is no way Cousins should do that and I don't expect that from him anyway. We need a defensive big next to Cousins to make Cousins an All-Star and make this team better and I'd be shocked if you disputed that Kenneth.

Thank you for your understanding! Yes Cousins is asked to do too much while the team is being selfish by not showing much energy at all on defense, then taking their own shots on offense. 8 months, 4 weeks ago on Sunday Musings: DeMarcus Cousins needs his Sacramento Kings teammates to buy in

Reply

Man it's just so simple yet no one understands. Everyone is saying that DeMarcus is selfish or Cousins doesn't play defense. Let me ask you all something. Is LaMarcus Alridge a good defender? Is Blake Griffin a good defender? Is Kevin Love a good defender? No none of these so called "All-Stars" are good defenders. In fact, Cousins is probably just as good as them on defense! Then why are all of them going to be All-Stars? Because they all have defensive PFs or Cs playing next to them, protecting the rim. Alridge has been with the Blazers for a while but he's never been an Allstar. The only reason he is going to be one this year is because he finally got a defensive C next to him in Robin Lopez. Same for Griffin having DeAndre Jordan to help him defensively, and same for K Love having Pekovic to help him defensively. Look honestly it's not even Cousins job to be a great defender because he's never been one. That's not what he's known for. Cousins is the leader of our team and our go-to guy in our offense. His role is not to be defender, we need to get a guy and put that defensive player next to him. Cousins is already better than Alridge and Griffin and he can be the best if he had some help on defense!

And for those saying he is selfish on offense and only cares about his own stats, I ask you, who is the Cousins, which is the most talented basketball player on the Sacramento Kings, suppose to pass to? The less talented Travis Outlaw? Maybe the less talented, big goof Jason Thompson? Or maybe hand it off the the ball-handling struggler and turnover prone Jimmer Fredette? As you can see, all the options that Cousins has to defer to are less talented than him. So I don't understand how you can call him selfish. Who is he suppose to pass to when he has no good players around him? The best option Cousins has is himself. IT, Gay, and D Will are good but can't keep going to them all the time.

This is simple. It's the players that are on the roster that are to blame for the defensive struggles. And I'm not pointing to any specific player like Cousins, IT, or Jimmer. It's just the simple fact that the whole team is filled with players that don't really play defense at all. We have no shot-blocker or perimeter, wing defender. Absolutely none. Should the players show some defensive effort like the option saying Poor Basketball IQ suggests they're not? Yes they should. But still none of these players are known for their defense so I won't blame any of them for being bad. It's not their fault because they are still young and have not been taught the defensive principles of the NBA

Is it the coaches fault? No this is the roster he is stuck with.

If we had drafted Tony Snell or Jeff Whitney instead of Ray McCallum then we would have been a little better off. Of course they wouldn't change the entire environment, but atleast we could have a wing defender or shot blocker.

I like Coach Malone a lot and I think he will last longer than the previous coaches the Kings have had but so far Malone is following in Keith Smart's path. I remember Smart saying to focus on defense in the offseason and when the regular season started last year, the team played average defense while the main issue was that the offense was lost. I think so far Malone has done the same because he kept demanding defense, that he didn't really give much attention to the offensive side of the ball over the training camp and preseason. I'm not losing faith cuz I know there's a long way to go but when I see the 76ers working their tails off and just playing hard, regardless of the talent, and winning, I wonder why the Kings can't do the same? Lastly I think Vasquez needs to play more and really establish himself as the main distributor and playmaker for this team. The team seems to want to run but he seems to be more in favor of slowing it down a bit. IT is playing great but it's not raising the overall teams play like I know Vasquez can.

@TomDeMatteoJr How am I, as a Kings fan who is just suggesting my honest opinion of what the Kings roster should look like, hating on JT? Any real fan can tell that Patterson and Cousins complement each other much better than JT and Cousins complement each other. Patterson can hit long range shots and can even step out to the 3pt line and hit shots. Putting him in the starting lineup next to Cousins would give Cousins more space to operate. Not to hate on JT as you might accuse me of Tom, but JT and Cousins are both better in the paint, so JT would take up space in the paint when Cousins is trying to put on the moves, which would allow the guy guarding JT to slide over and double team Cousins in the paint. Another thing to take into account is that Patterson and Cousins played together at the highly prestigious University of Kentucky, so they have chemistry with each other.

Another thing is who would be our backup center if JT and Cousins started next to each other Tom? Would it be the 6'9 Carl Landry? The 6'9 Patrick Patterson? Or the 6'6 Chuck Hayes? From a full team perspective, it makes more sense to bring in JT off then bench as the backup Center because he is 6'11.

I would not be surprised at all if JT was still put into the starting lineup even after everything I have just laid out for you, because he is actually the better defender between himself and PPat and that is what new coach Mike Malone is preaching. But my opinion is that Patterson would be a better fit next to Cousins and JT would bring a great big presence at the Center position from off the bench, especially because we are lacking anyone else over 6'10.

For me success would come from a culture change from coaching and good individual statistics from certain players. I wanna see Vasquez average around 8-9 assists. I want Ben McLemore to be a dominant 3pt threat and it would be great for him to compete in the 3pt contest in the All-Star game and maybe even win ROY! And lastly I want to see DMC become a double-double machine. Be a top 5 rebounder in the league, hopefully be a 20ppg guy, and maybe even lead the league in drawn charges and offensive rebounds!

I'm more interested in individual stats than overall team stats because our team is still filled with some players that need to go. I don't care if we finish with the worst record in the NBA, the worst defensive rating or whatever. As long as these 3 guys can shine then I know we are in good hands going forward. And if we are this bad, we will get a high draft in 2014 which will make our team better! I mean look at the Cavs last year, the players on theat team werent so great except for the one superstar Kyrie Irving. People would watch there games to watch him. I think if we can even get to a stage like that (with someone DMC) or hopefully better then that is success in my opinion!
