If you want defense and shooting, then please target CJ Miles! The guy is a long, rangy 6'7 guy who's athletic and can shoot the 3. We got a whole on our bench at the shooting guard position and he would be a great fit there of the bench. It's not always about getting the bigtime names. Sometimes is about building depth and getting good role players. CJ Miles seems like a good glue guy of the bench with playoff experience.

I think Ben McLemore will be a star (not superstar) in this league but that's only going to happen if that 3 point shot he had in college can soon translate over to the pros. It'll happen, hopefully by next year. When he gets that down, I think the next step for him should be to develop a game similar to Ray Allen/Reggie Miller/Rip Hamilton where they constantly run around the court and come off screens to get open and shoot 3s. I know it's extremely difficult to do and I'm jumping way ahead of myself since he can't even shoot the 3 but if he could do that, we would have a huge weapon in our hands.
10 months, 2 weeks ago on Sacramento Kings need shooting following exits of Jimmer Fredette, Marcus Thornton
I'd be happy if McLemore developed into a Gerald Green like player. Green was dropping 41 on someone the other night. It's quite a drop tho for McLemore considering that many were comparing him to Ray Allen, Reggie Miller, and Rip Hamilton
10 months, 3 weeks ago on Is Ben McLemore the next Gerald Green?
How is a team that can't even win many games be worth billions?? Come on Vivek start putting your money where your mouth is and go way over the salary cap to get us some real stars.
10 months, 3 weeks ago on WATCH: Vivek Ranadivé thinks Sacramento Kings could someday be worth billions
@NinerDude Thanks man! It's pretty sad because I feel like our offense should be top 10. We got the names like Crabs, Boldin, Davis, Gore, LMJ, Hunter, and Kap. Yet we are an average, middle of the league offense. And the worst part is, since our offense can't even stay on the field long enough, our defense has to do more, like more plays on the field, and eventually they break down. We put so much pressure on our defense, I love those guys man and I feel so bad for them! Our offense needs to get its act together and that starts with giving the "Roman Empire" the boot!

This is all Greg Roman's fault. A smarter offensive coordinator, like Norv Turner with LT and Sproles, would immediately recognize his receiving talents out of the backfield and create screen and draw plays for him. I really don't wanna see this guy go to another team because I know he's going to light it up when a coordinator who has a normal brain like the rest of us uses him the way he's meant to be used

1) First of all, teams don't always do trade if its best for all teams and you know that. Lopsided trades like Chris Paul or Dwight Howard trade didn't work out for everyone.
2) Why do people walk around like Lamb is an extremely valuable piece. I know he was the 12th pick in the draft and he's a good developing player but he doesn't have any skill to count on. Jimmer can atleast shoot. And like I said, they need immediate impact, not talent that needs time to develop. OKC wants to compete for a title right now. Thornton is expensive but atleast they're getting rid of Perks salary.
3) Salaries do match thats why it worked
1 year ago on Ben McLemore readjusts to life back on Sacramento Kings bench
@discocricketPerkins can be a serviceable veteran center who provides defense for a rebuilding team like the Kings. He doesn't have to do anything offensively on this team especially with Cousins as our center next to him. He just has to teach the players about defense when he's on the floor, telling IT and others where to go. Lamb is a young player who is still developing while Thornton and Jimmer can make immediate impact. I think a lot of people overrate Lamb because he was the 12th pick but he isn't going to be amazing. I can see them parting with Lamb
My trade: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lygjk52
Why Bucks do it:
Gary Neal is causing problems in the locker room and getting in
spats with star player Larry Sanders. They can get rid of him and Udoh
and in return get a veteran player like Thompson to mentor Henson.
Outlaw is just in there to make contracts work. Plus Bucks seem to be
Why T'Wolves do it:
They need more scoring and shooting since starting PG Rubio is still
developing a jump shot. Neal brings a veteran presence with playoff
experience and shooting which is something the Wolves need and will not
get out of Shved.
Why Thunder do it:
Westbrook went down with an injury and Reggie Jackson has been moved
to the starting lineup, which leaves the backup PG spot to Derek
Fisher. Jimmer Fredette can shoot the ball just as well as Fisher. But
that's not all as Jimmer can put the ball on the floor and score as
well. Thornton can also score and is still young. OKC needs some scoring
off the bench to fill in the void that was left by Harden and K-Mart
leaving, and while Lamb is a good player, he is still developing and the
Thunder will get more instant impact from them. The combo of Thornton
and Jimmer can fill that need for scoring and shooting. Plus Kevin
Durant really likes Jimmer.
Why Kings do it:
Kings will finally get a big man to play defense next to Cousins
with the addition of Perkins. Kings will get a backup PG in Shved. Kings
will get rid of Thompson and switch him with Udoh. And Lamb will be a
good player to develop with McLemore.
Look everyone understands the Kings are bad. But there are a few bright spots. IT has been bright a few times this season but you're right when he looks for his own, we tend to do badly. But its funny you make it sound like being a homer means you understand nothing whereas in actuality, the country you're talking about is the one who doesn't understand because they don't follow closely enough. Cousins has toned down in temper flares quite a bit but its nonchalant bandwagon fans such as yourself who think he is still a cancer. And I guarantee you if the owners chose to put Cousins on the trade block, the ignorant coaches you are talking about would come running with trade offers. And the voting for the rest of the All-Star roster by the coaches hasn't happened yet, so there's still a chance Cousins makes the All-Star team. Stick to loving BYU because dealing with casual fans who don't really know much and believe what they hear is no fun.
1 year ago on Sunday Musings: DeMarcus Cousins needs his Sacramento Kings teammates to buy in
You're just a Jimmer lover and an IT hater. IT can still be a good bench, backup PG. Jimmer can also still be a good, undersized shooting guard kind of like Jason Terry if Jimmer is used correctly in the right system, which is definitely not the Kings. But you guys praise Jimmer way too much. He's not worthy of starting in this league. Look it's simple to see that after all this discussion, everyone can see how this team has a bunch of players who don't fit well at all. This is basically a year in transition for the new management as they try to shape the roster the way they want it and tank to get a high pick.
Actually I just searched your entire earlier comment and didn't find the word defense in it. But still I'm glad you agree that we need a defensive PF/C next to Cousins to truly bring out the best from him and this team. IT is definitely not the right person for the starting PG role but he can be a sparkplug off the bench for us. It's funny because the guy who would have fit well with Gay and Cousins was the PG traded away to bring in Gay. That player of course is Grieves Vasquez. He was the pass first PG that could balance out who needs to get the ball and score. But Malone would barely play him and he was traded away. Maybe we can sign him in the summer. I don't really like the idea of Rondo because first of all we would have to give up a lot to get him. And secondly, he is coming off of a major injury and he may never return to his preinjury form or could get reinjured like we've seen from Rose, Westbrook, and Bryant.
So now that we both know that PG and defensive PF/C are needs for the Kings, who would you draft if you were the GM of the Kings? Dante Exum, Marcus Smart, Joel Embiid, or Noah Vonleh?
Good analysis on our players! Very true!
So true about Cousins exerting too much energy on both ends!
Dude you're not listening. This team will not get better because we don't have the defensive kind of players to get better. We have ZERO defensive specialist or players known for playing defense. If we had a wing/perimeter defender or shot blocker, then I wouldn't be making these comments about the team. But since no one will give a defensive player to us in a trade, I have to focus on the players we have and call out their defensive effort. If you really expect Cousins to guard ITs man when that player blows pass a 5'10 guy and then expect him to guard Thompson's man when he blows past the forever-fouling Thompson, and then rush all the way back on offense and play his offensive game, then you are absurd. There is no way Cousins should do that and I don't expect that from him anyway. We need a defensive big next to Cousins to make Cousins an All-Star and make this team better and I'd be shocked if you disputed that Kenneth.
Thank you for your understanding! Yes Cousins is asked to do too much
while the team is being selfish by not showing much energy at all
on defense, then taking their own shots on offense. I swear if Cousins had a defensive big man to help him out, Cousins would seriously be thee best big man in basketball.
Man it's just so simple yet no one understands. Everyone is saying
that DeMarcus is selfish or Cousins doesn't play defense. Let me ask you
all something. Is LaMarcus Alridge a good defender? Is Blake Griffin a
good defender? Is Kevin Love a good defender? No none of these so called
"All-Stars" are good defenders. In fact, Cousins is probably just as
good as them on defense! Then why are all of them going to be All-Stars?
Because they all have defensive PFs or Cs playing next to them,
protecting the rim. Alridge has been with the Blazers for a while but
he's never been an Allstar. The only reason he is going to be one this
year is because he finally got a defensive C next to him in Robin Lopez.
Same for Griffin having DeAndre Jordan to help him defensively, and
same for K Love having Pekovic to help him defensively. Look honestly
it's not even Cousins job to be a great defender because he's never been
one. That's not what he's known for. Cousins is the leader of our team
and our go-to guy in our offense. His role is not to be defender, we
need to get a guy and put that defensive player next to him. Cousins is
already better than Alridge and Griffin and he can be the best if he had
some help on defense!
@vslsubYup that's all I could ask. If we stay close to the GSWs and LACs of today, can you imagine how good we can be with a stud like Joel Embiid or Noah Vonleh on our team? That's why I'm saying we play hard but then lose.
1 year, 1 month ago on Michael Malone tired of Sacramento Kings' inconsistency on defense
@al asifyouknowNow do I want effort from the Kings? Yes I do and in some of the games earlier this year they showed that like against LAC and GSW. They kept the games close and lost. And that's all I want from the Kings this year. I want them to stay close in each game then completely lose at the end. I want us to tank so we can pick up a high draft pick and actually get a star. If we play with effort and lose, and Cousins is an All-Star, then this Kings year is a success is in my books.
This is simple. It's the players that are on the roster that are to blame for the defensive struggles. And I'm not pointing to any specific player like Cousins, IT, or Jimmer. It's just the simple fact that the whole team is filled with players that don't really play defense at all. We have no shot-blocker or perimeter, wing defender. Absolutely none. Should the players show some defensive effort like the option saying Poor Basketball IQ suggests they're not? Yes they should. But still none of these players are known for their defense so I won't blame any of them for being bad. It's not their fault because they are still young and have not been taught the defensive principles of the NBA
Is it the coaches fault? No this is the roster he is stuck with.
If we had drafted Tony Snell or Jeff Whitney instead of Ray McCallum then we would have been a little better off. Of course they wouldn't change the entire environment, but atleast we could have a wing defender or shot blocker.
1 year, 1 month ago on Poll: What's to blame for the Sacramento Kings' struggles on defense?
@al asifyouknow I'm not following you. All I'm saying is Malone and Ranadive need to understand that this is going to take time. Not just make trades and then become a winner. Going that route of signing high-priced veterans is not right, just look at the Brooklyn Nets!
@al asifyouknow True he should demand good money. But I'm not looking to trade IT. I'd rather free Jimmer. Jameer is a veteran who's been to the Finals. He can help us with his veteran leadership. I honestly don't know if we will pay IT. Management is a bit unpredictable with their moves.
@al asifyouknowHow about trading Jimmer, Marcus Thornton and JT for Jameer Nelson and Glen Davis. This would atleast free Jimmer and give us a backup PG so IT doesn't have to play so much. Sure he's an expensive backup but he's getting paid the starter money while IT is getting paid bench money it evens out
Bro Mike Malone you gotta chill out man! And you
too Mr. Ranadive. A dynasty isn't built overnight (unless your the Heat
or Lakers). Heck, a winning team isn't built overnight. It's going to
take time. Not the first quarter of the season. Its going to take
multiple seasons, Kings managment. Slow the train down. I know you don't
like losing but you have to go through the flow and process in the NBA.
Stop ripping players up who are still young and learning or they're not
going to respect you. Why don't you just tank this season like I want
you to and then draft defensive studs like Noah Vonleh and then bringing
this hardcore winning attitude with another star on your team? This is
the season I want you to tank for the 2014 draft and here you are trying
to win. Ridiculous
I don't know if Orlando would bite but how about trading Marcus Thornton, JT, and Jimmer for Jameer Nelson and Glen Davis? We get a backup PG who can mentor IT and Big Baby can play the role similar to Landry while he's gone. Magic get a scorer off the bench in Thornton, solid big man backup in JT, and Jimmer who can play some PG for them. Works on ESPN trade machine!
1 year, 1 month ago on Sacramento Kings vets coping with specter of trade speculation
@billymackWell I absolutely hate the Maloofs and their cheap ways but I think the reason they gave an 8 mil contract to Thornton was cuz he was averaging around 21 pts after he was traded to us. Thats pretty good. But now he's just a volume shooter who plays no defense. When I've watched him, every time he touches the ball, he thinks he can make it from the spot he's standing and just shoots it and misses. But I've noticed when he drives to the hoop, he scores well. He just doesn't understand tho because thats how volume shooters like him and JR Smith are, they think they can make it from wherever they are standing on the floor. Real sad actually
I'm seriously so proud of the Kings! There taking it to the best teams in the West like OKC, LAC, and GSW and they're keeping it so close! I don't even mind losing cuz I want a high draft pick. Considering what we are doing these teams now, can you imagine what we can do with Jabari Parker or Julius Randle in our lineup? Loving the effort right now. Keeping doing exactly what you're doing!
As for defense, JT is absolutely the worst. He's a "power" forward but everyone blows past him and every time I watch him defend, he always ends up fouling! Always! Then he makes a confused face. Like c'mon man you just keep fouling.
1 year, 1 month ago on Sacramento Kings young athletes tested defensively
@Ken S You nailed it man! I mean look at the Kings yesterday competing to the end against a Warriors team loaded with stars! Sure we had to rally but atleast it showed fight. And same thing with the Clips game where we pushed it to overtime (even though they were missing their starting PG and SG).
All I want from the Kings is to show a competitive effort in almost every game and that's exactly what theyre doing. It's all about culture change right now. I wanted Cousins to average a double-double for the season and be among the top 5 in Rebounds and charges drawn. Have an All-Star caliber season. I wanted McLemore to show promise and make the Rising Stars Challenge and maybe even compete in the 3pt contest! And I wanted Vasquez to average around 8-9 ast per game.
I don't want wins this year because I want the Kings to get a high pick in the draft. If we are staying close with the Warriors right now can you imagine how much better we can be when he have a Jabari Parker or Julius Randle in our lineup!?
1 year, 1 month ago on CK Press Box Report: Golden State Warriors 115, Sacramento Kings 113
@theredzone7 You're absolutely right! There is no way we are going to swing the franchise around with minor signings in the FA (mainly because no one wants to play in Sac) and small trades. We need to build through the top of the draft by drafting a player like Wiggins (who is compared to T-Mac) or Jabari Parker (who is compared to Carmelo Anthony) to really turn this franchise around. Can you imagine how much better a lineup with Cousins, McLemore, and Parker is going to look with good role players like IT, Thorton, and Vasquez! Tanking is the way to go! I'm already use to losing. We just have to suffer through one more year, then Jabari or Wiggins or Randle will begin to turn this franchise around.

I hope Boogie Cousins makes an All-Star appearance but I think its gonna be tough considering all the other frontcourt players in the West and the record of the Kings. 1 year, 2 months ago on With the Sacramento Kings struggling, Jimmer Fredette gets another shot
I like Coach Malone a lot and I think he will last longer than the previous coaches the Kings have had but so far Malone is following in Keith Smart's path. I remember Smart saying to focus on defense in the offseason and when the regular season started last year, the team played average defense while the main issue was that the offense was lost. I think so far Malone has done the same because he kept demanding defense, that he didn't really give much attention to the offensive side of the ball over the training camp and preseason. I'm not losing faith cuz I know there's a long way to go but when I see the 76ers working their tails off and just playing hard, regardless of the talent, and winning, I wonder why the Kings can't do the same? Lastly I think Vasquez needs to play more and really establish himself as the main distributor and playmaker for this team. The team seems to want to run but he seems to be more in favor of slowing it down a bit. IT is playing great but it's not raising the overall teams play like I know Vasquez can.
1 year, 2 months ago on CK Press Box Report: Portland Trail Blazers 96, Sacramento Kings 85
@TomDeMatteoJr How am I, as a Kings fan who is just suggesting my honest opinion of what the Kings roster should look like, hating on JT? Any real fan can tell that Patterson and Cousins complement each other much better than JT and Cousins complement each other. Patterson can hit long range shots and can even step out to the 3pt line and hit shots. Putting him in the starting lineup next to Cousins would give Cousins more space to operate. Not to hate on JT as you might accuse me of Tom, but JT and Cousins are both better in the paint, so JT would take up space in the paint when Cousins is trying to put on the moves, which would allow the guy guarding JT to slide over and double team Cousins in the paint. Another thing to take into account is that Patterson and Cousins played together at the highly prestigious University of Kentucky, so they have chemistry with each other.
Another thing is who would be our backup center if JT and Cousins started next to each other Tom? Would it be the 6'9 Carl Landry? The 6'9 Patrick Patterson? Or the 6'6 Chuck Hayes? From a full team perspective, it makes more sense to bring in JT off then bench as the backup Center because he is 6'11.
I would not be surprised at all if JT was still put into the starting lineup even after everything I have just laid out for you, because he is actually the better defender between himself and PPat and that is what new coach Mike Malone is preaching. But my opinion is that Patterson would be a better fit next to Cousins and JT would bring a great big presence at the Center position from off the bench, especially because we are lacking anyone else over 6'10.

Exactly! If he wasn't so inconsistent he would be a serviceable option for a team that is lacking veterans. I think you're both right that age might be the deciding factor for Salmons.
1 year, 4 months ago on Poll: Which veteran will step up for the Sacramento Kings?
I don't understand why people think John Salmons is a bad player. The guy can score and if he commits like he use to in Chicago, he can play defense at an above average level. Yes he's certainly not flashy and he's madly inconsistent nowadays, but I still think he's one of the Kings top players and a veteran we can rely on better than Outlaw.
I love the McLemore pick! He can be better than GSW's Klay Thompson cuz he's got all the shooting Thompson does and he's more athletic! Vasquez pickup is a close second because the dude drops dimes everywhere!
Don't think the additions are over yet tho, I predict there's going to be a few more moves made!!!

Changes have to happen before the trade deadline! Here's what I propose
1) Figure out some way to dump Outlaw and Hayes
2) Sign Terrence Williams, James Johnson, Kris Joesph, and Darko Mililic. Honestly T-Will is a good all-around player and JJ is a good defender. Darko can block shots. Joseph can be a scoring spark. Only reason to bring these guys in is to fill out 3rd string

Completely agree with just about everything you have said! Great insight and totally the way to go!
1 year, 5 months ago on Poll: Assessing success for the 2013-14 Sacramento Kings
For me success would come from a culture change from coaching and good individual statistics from certain players. I wanna see Vasquez average around 8-9 assists. I want Ben McLemore to be a dominant 3pt threat and it would be great for him to compete in the 3pt contest in the All-Star game and maybe even win ROY! And lastly I want to see DMC become a double-double machine. Be a top 5 rebounder in the league, hopefully be a 20ppg guy, and maybe even lead the league in drawn charges and offensive rebounds!
I'm more interested in individual stats than overall team stats because our team is still filled with some players that need to go. I don't care if we finish with the worst record in the NBA, the worst defensive rating or whatever. As long as these 3 guys can shine then I know we are in good hands going forward. And if we are this bad, we will get a high draft in 2014 which will make our team better! I mean look at the Cavs last year, the players on theat team werent so great except for the one superstar Kyrie Irving. People would watch there games to watch him. I think if we can even get to a stage like that (with someone DMC) or hopefully better then that is success in my opinion!
I am a Kings fan but honestly I hope our team doesn't improve much at all from last season. Why? Because there are some great prizes that the Kings can get their hands on by getting a high lotto pick in next year's draft, the loaded 2014 draft! I do really want to see Cousins and McLemore take off, but I hope our record is bad so we can land a superstar in next draft. Trust me just one year of being bad, and then when we get that superstar, the Sacramento Kings will be headed in the right direction!

Its an honest toss up between Moute and Salmons. I know this sounds unprofessional but maybe we could switch some nights depending on the opponent? Like playing against LeBron or KD we could put Moute in to slow them down.
Or trade Jimmer Fredette and Moute for Arron Afflalo from the Magic. They get a PG, we get an undersized SF. It works on NBA ESPN Trade Machine!
1 year, 5 months ago on Poll: Who should the Sacramento Kings start at small forward on opening night?
@Cowbb I did happen to read the Rondo and Jenning rumors. The Rondo one isn't a good idea cuz he's coming off injury and we don't know how good he is without the Big 3. And I don't know if Rondo will like Sac. Jennings is ok but he's too much of a ball hog. I do agree that management will try to do something before we start.
I came up with a trade scenario that can bring a young up-and-coming player:
Trade Jimmer Fredette, Jason Thompson, Mbah Moute, and maybe a 2nd rounder to Toronto Raptors for DeMarr DeRozan and Aaron Gray.
1 year, 5 months ago on What might the Sacramento Kings do with their final roster spot?
O I totally hope your right man. I've even come up with some trade scenarios to land some decent guys. But will management do something to make this a year where we do not rebuild? And I dont think we should trade our 1st round pick from this upcoming draft cuz there are some talented players coming out. What rumors have you heard?
Sign a big guy like Chris Wilcox who is a solid, athletic guy or a veteran like Joel Pryzibilla who could provide a good locker room presence. I would take Wilcox cuz I doubt Joel would sign with a rebuilding team
