@Rangers_54 I understand how you would keep Richards on it.  Yes he is looking slow but he does have the ability to make beautiful passes.  However as far as G?  How can they possibly put him on the PP.  I would rather any other defense-men on this team be on our PP except for maybe Klein.  Seems silly to have a guy out their who is not only not an offensive defensemen but also has the potential to get beat in a foot race.

I feel like we really should aim for an A Plus guys.  I mean come on.

All of the grading jokes aside, I do not feel like I am being delusional when I say this article is spot on.  The fact is we made Doughty look silly more than once to start that game with speed.  We made the Kings look shaky by overwhelming them and getting multiple guys in for puck battles.  Not sure when happened in the third but I highly doubt we will see that third period rangers team again.  LETS GO RANGERS>

someone needs to sit Nash down and tell him that its not acceptable in the NHL in the Finals to not even get a shot off on a 3-1.  He is getting embarrassing to watch on the rush.  I appreciate his back check and all but on the rush he is looking lost.  G's game was too slow, he needs to find another level and move just a bit quicker.  I don't think Quick is all that dangerous right now.  His rebound control was awful but we didn't have bodies there to slam those second chances home.  Lets take Game 2 and go back to NYC on a high.  We can clearly beat these guys.

This is the sort of thing you see in movies.  They are going TO Montreal after they Execs turn down a very considerate and reasonable request to play a game one in Marty's home town on the eve of his mothers funeral.  All the players will be in attendance to their newest teammates mothers funeral.  This group will come out of Montreal and back to New York as the most together, synced unit in the league.

Fuck you NBC.  Other then Kenny Albert you have no idea how to even hire proper play by play and color announcers.  When we lift the cup I'll be watching on mute so I don't have to hear Pierre or Doc!  They should be ashamed.  They had their guys mentioning St. Louis mothers death about a hundred times, exploiting it for some emotional blips on their radar and then they pull this shit.

We lose this game because of our in ability to capitalize on golden opportunities.  It seemed like every time they scored they gave us a chance on the PP to take the game back and we did nothing.  Dialed it in for game six.  Ugly.  Simmonds is one of the most gutless players in the league.  He throws punches with his gloves on, cross checks the head a neck, and slashes any chance he gets.  I really hope AV puts Carcillo in and tells him to stay right near Simmons chirping.  The only problem with that is Simmonds would probably cross check Carcillo and Carcillo would get a minor penalty for falling.  The refs have been garbage.  Too many missed calls.  To many embellishment calls.  And can someone please tell me how Zucc got that roughing penalty.  He was crosschecked twice, knocked down, and then in self defense shoved a guy twice his size.  Joke.  LGR.   I have never applauded a player going down to injury but for the sake of the other athletes on the ice I hope Simmonds is collecting his teeth instead of hats on the ice after game 7.

the big question in the east for us is can we hang with Boston.  We have shown that we can take Pittsburgh, we can take Philly, we can take these Eastern teams, but Boston is what stands between us and one of those deadly Western teams.  If Nash goes to the net and doesn't back down from Boston's big boys, St. Louis remembers his St. Louis, and we get some contributions from Step, Zucc and Brass we have a shot.  But if you think we can roll through Boston on speed alone your mistaken.  We are going to have to pretend we are tougher than we are and get in some peoples faces.  It's not necessarily about being the big tough guy, but you have to act that part on occasion.  When your a pro athlete you should be able to handle yourself (I am thinking of Girardi, Staal, Boyle).  We have big boys who need to realize they are big boys.

@ObviouslyTwoPointsAreGreat @DubiLeetch @Say my Name  Patience is one thing this sather guy does not have.  He has no vision of what the team should be.  He built a tough guy team.  The team went to the EC finals.  He deconstructed the tough guy team for a faster more offensive team..... in a matter of two years.  I like more offense.  I like tough guys.  I am not saying Sather can't pull off a trade.  McD being his best. But he has no vision and no patience.  A perfect example is the way he handled the Gabby Torts problem.  Trade Gabby.  That signaled to me that we'd be keeping Torts.  Then the season doesnt end great and he decides to move Torts.  Well that is a move that a checkers player makes.  Its impulsive.  Teach this old guy how to play chess because that's what it takes to construct a team with all its moving pieces.

@DubiLeetch  that is what i was trying to say.  Obviously callahans skill set and point production is replaceable.  in fact in St. Louis we have a guy who should double callys production.  my point is when you trade your heart and soul guy and your team captain going into a playoff run you are waving a white flag.  and this shit about cally not being a leader is garbage.  richards was trying to get his guys going, or something with that comment.  i don't think its working because when you are a guy like rich and you talk the talk but go on the ice and can't back it then your message falls on deaf ears.

Nash made a beautiful pass directly to a the Wild.  The wind is out of the sails.  This is what a team looks like when you trade their captain mid post-season push.  Cally wanted too much, St. Louis is a better player, totally true, but that doesn't mean shit when you deflate the room like this.  You do not go on a run after trading your Captain.  In fact I would like to know if a team in any sport has ever won a championship after trading away their captain near the deadline.  Anyone have the stats on that?  Next year can't come soon enough.  Hopefully these guys get to work and stop looking around for the other guy to step up.

Its good that Richards knows how to talk because he does not lead by example on the ice.  I'd take St. Louis to be captain over this guy.  It should be G or Mc D.  This guy just put his foot in his mouth.  If you think that Cally didn't know how to be a captain you are nuts.  He led by example and the teams reaction to his loss makes it obvious that Cally was a loved captain.  They were willing to go out and battle for him.  Richards.  Shut. IF YOU WERE TO SUBTRACT BOTH PLAYERS FROM THIS TEAM RIGHT NOW WE WOULD NOT EVEN SNIFF THE PLAYOFFS.  TEAM CAPTAIN AND OUR BEST GRINDER BY FAR, AND A SHUT DOWN GUY WHO LOGS MAJOR MINS?  ITS THROWING IN THE WHITE TOWEL IF WE LOSE EM.

what has anyone seen from G to make them think that this guy is going down the tubes.  he had a rough start to the season while adjusting to a new system of play, which could be said of  almost every ranger.  he is a shut down guy worthy of a decent contract, which he will get.

the biggest problem with this article is that you seem to think that every rangers player is on the chopping block. the fact is we are on a very hot roll.  to say that we should judge a team based on an average performance is nonsense.  these guys are paid very well.  if they come out and put up an average performance every night then guess what....they don't have...wait for it...character.
if you think that mark messier didn't have that extra piece, that piece that goes just a bit beyond is natural skill and ability you are nuts.  its takes character to use those skills under pressure.  if you want to win you need guys like cally, and girardi.  who are you going to replace g's mins with?  do you really think trading a captain while you team if finally geling under a brand new coach with a new system is intelligent hockey.  we went the route of buying up skilled players and it did not get us anything.  wade redden had a lot of skill.  he has the character of dried up playdoh.  your evaluation of this team is way off.  we have a lot of skilled guys who are finally getting into a groove with this new coach.  if you think this team is not a contender, and not talented you have not been watching the hockey they've played the last two months.

yeah that makes zero sense. poliout has been an up and down player.  there is a reason he has yet to find a real home in this league.  on the other hand cally is a gutsy puts it on the line every night leader of this team.  if we weren't looking so good right now, and poliout wasn't playing his best id try to get something for him while his trade value is higher, because if the player he normally is comes back his value is almost nothing.

They are going to find a way to keep cally. He is too important to this team and they are going to well right now to break it up. Also Melrose is one of the worst in the biz. He's a joke. And lets cut the this is a business decision and we need to look at it like a business. Sather and Dolan have been doing that for a long time, doing anything and everything to sign aging superstars. What cally brings to this specific team is not replaceable. He's grown into a captain team and has instant respect from every teammate. If we can win one before the inevitable 6 year contract is up I don't care. One cup is worth paying an old man too much.

SAY WHAT YOU WANT ABOUT HIM BUT HES STILL LEADING THIS TEAM THAT YOU ROOT FOR IN POINTS.  YES HE IS OVERPAID BUT HES NO BUM.  AND YES TAVARES IS GREAT, BUT TO SAY THAT HE IS BETTER THAN RICHARDS IN HIS PRIME?  RICHARDS PUT UP 91 POINTS TWICE IN HIS CAREER WITH TWO SEPARATE TEAMS, HAS WON A CON SMYTHEE AND A CUP.  ITS A BIT SHORT SIDED TO SAY THAT ALREADY.  I DO THINK TAVARES WILL END UP BEING ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS OF HIS GENERATION AND PROBABLY SURPASS A CAREER LIKE RICHARDS BUT THE GUY IS A PRETTY GOOD HOCKEY PLAYER.

have any of the contract rumors been correct so far ?  they are not trading the captain in the first season with a new coach right when this team seems to be gelling and gaining some consistency.  they will sign ryan callahan.  i am broke this week so if anyone wants to take wagers on that fact let me know.

i say let em float.  when they look back at the end of the season and consider the stadium series, and the seriousness of this organization, the new coach, the more offensive style, and then they think about who is going to give them the money the want...teams like buffalo, they are going to lower there asking prices to stay in new york.  ryan callahan is the captain of the new york rangers.  you don't walk away from that like its nothing.

if we are talking about needing more scoring, and this team always does then how is richards a third liner.  hes on pace for a bit more than 50, plus what third liner puts that up reliably.  i agree his contract sucks, but brad richards is a quality second line centermen who makes guys around him better.

also right now Stepan is a secondary player.  Because he had a season where he was a major factor doesn't mean that is what he is.  He is no veteran that a coach should have a hard time sitting.  he's a kid.

6 months, 1 week ago on Why Not Jump Start Stepan With A Healthy Scratch?

SIT HIM. I am sorry but for a guy Richards age I almost understood the idea that because he missed camp he was underprepared, and not in game shape.  HOWEVER.  I do believe that Stepan is only 22 years old.  Not only should that not be an excuse, but as an athlete if you are holding out and missing training camp because of contract negotiations it is your personal responsibility to make sure that you are in as good, or even better shape then if you had been at that camp.  Yes mentally not being involved is a big deal, but these guys are professionals.  If you are arguing for more money you should be in tip top condition to help make the point that you deserve the cash. Maybe our expectations of Stepan are slightly elevated?  He has realistically had one very good season.  I hope he is the star we are hoping for but he has looked lazy and not very aggressive at all out there.

its not a horrible idea, but it is not going to happen.  Glen Sather, and Mr. Dolan are not the type to let a guy walk when the fans like him.  Unless hes Brian Leetch.  I say keep him.  Because if we let him go, Glen is just going to bring him back in five years when he is an aging superstar with a ring.

Messier would be a far better option.  He knows this organization.  And until Glen Sather put it in his head that he could be the coach, and then didn't give him the job (not that he should have) it seemed like Mess might be the next guy.  Having said that I would take Kevin over Glen. Or why not me?  Or Torts?  He has a history here ;)Glen Sather may be able to make a trade, and sign big names.  But big names want to come to NY.  The draw isn't Glen.  Its the building, and the team, and the history.  #ANYONEBUTGLEN

Both will be back.  Though I would much rather see Girardi go at this point than Cally.  Callahan will be paid because he is a fan favorite, not to mention that he is one of the hardest working guys we have.  Yes he is a bit injury prone but my guess is that in this new system he will break less bones.  I understand that he will still play his game and that does put him at risk but in a more offensive system he is less at risk.  You don't trade away your 27/28 year old captain when he is a reliable workhorse with a chip on his shoulder.  The guy is too valuable.  And while I do admit Girardi has had his first setback as far as this season goes, he is a good solid, shut down guy.  Who do you think we are going to replace a guy like that with?  Why do you think McD has the opportunity to spring into the play whenever he feels like it?  Because Girardi is covering.  I think he will turn it around.  Knee-jerk Sather needs to cool his shit and let this team have a chance to gel.

The biggest problem with this win, and I am very happy that it is a win, is that we took 40+ shots and could only put 1 in.  When you take 48 shots your goaltender should not have to be your number one star.  This team needs to focus more on quality shots.  I would be very interested to see how many Rangers shots are taken from the out side portion of the circles.  Too many bad angle shots, or opportunities that would have been goals had we been crashing the net.  All that aside, its nice to see them win a tight one, score late, and show some battle.  It was non-existent at the beginning of the season, but that feeling that we can win any given game is starting to return.
