@Greg Fenton @MTK @Thedoor29 @Komas Taberle Hadn't heard this before and that is exactly what I'm talking about. I would wholeheartedly agree with that rule. I like fighting in the game at times but I'm not a fan or believer in a league full of tough guys esp. when they start attacking star players.
2 months, 1 week ago on Dave Poulin: CapGeek not really accurate, hints Kessel contract could develop soon
@Thedoor29 @MTK @Greg Fenton @Komas Taberle Agreed - I guess what I'm saying is a guy like John Scott doesn't belong in the league in the first place. Also (not that I agree with it) the funny thing is that the league is kind of saying that there is a rule about guys fighting certain guys by fining Rolston for "choice of player personnel".
@Thedoor29 @Greg Fenton @MTK @Komas Taberle Regarding Bernier - Miller skated to meet him and also dropped his gloves. Kessel didn't drop his gloves (or stick) and I find it next to impossible to believe that a guy who has a reputation for being soft, not hitting, not digging in the trenches accepts a fight with John Scott. That is laughable. Of course if I'm wrong about that then this is a different story.
@Thedoor29 @MTK @Greg Fenton @Komas Taberle I'm a bit hypocritical on the fighting thing and admit it. I'll be honest I'm not sure how you police those types of situations aside from eliminating a need for guys like John Scott that are there to do one thing. From a fighting perspective, I find the passionate fights that break out because of an issue on the ice are exciting and add to the game. I've never really gotten excited about two guys that shouldn't be in the league fighting at puck drop for no reason other than bc thats their job. I pay $28 grand with partners for Leafs season tickets to see players like Kessel, Lupul, Kadri, Clarkson guys that can play the game. Not guys like Scott and if I'm being completely honest - I'm not paying that money to see a bunch of Colton Orr's out there either.
@Thedoor29 @Greg Fenton @MTK @Komas Taberle He didn't break a rule and in that I think there is something terribly wrong.
@Greg Fenton @MTK @Komas Taberle My comment was never disagreeing with the suspension. I'm not disputing the fact that swinging a stick is against the rules of hockey, what I'm saying is that the situation between whistles vs. Buffalo was NOT at all hockey. IN MY OPINION that was basically a street fight and if I'm in Kessel's position I doubt I would do anything differently. If John Scott comes at me like that there is no chance in hell I drop my stick or my gloves and there is also no chance in hell I let him tackle me Bertuzzi style. At that point I'm scared for my well being and I do what it takes to get out of that situation. Kessel did what he thought it took to get out of the situation. The second slash and the poke (no I'm not calling it a spear) were a little over the top but again I would love to see all of these people calling Kessel a disgrace to the game and calling for 10, 20, 30 game suspensions are ridiculous.
Until the league starts policing tough guys like Scott for those types of actions we will see more and more of this. THAT is a disgrace to the game in my opinion, not a guy like Kessel (who I actually pay to see play hockey) defending himself (in whatever manner). Again just my opinion.
@Greg Fenton @MTK @Komas Taberle You have your opinion and I have mine - really thats all this is a debate on opinion. I just subscribe to the fact that in a situation where a professionally trained fighter with 8 inches and at least 70 lbs is coming after you all of the thought pertaining to right and wrong goes out the window. You don't want a stick in the mouth (or in this case shin pad) don't advance on someone like Kessel in that situation.
@Greg Fenton @MTK @Komas Taberle Have you ever had a 6"8 270 lb trained fighter tell you he was going to jump you then proceed to drop gloves and advance? Didn't think so, I haven't either. You want him to turtle Steve Moore style and hope that nothing happens? Do you think about how mad / emasculated he must have felt following that event - maybe mad enough for a second slash and a little poke with his stick??? I'm fine with what he did and would have been fine with a little more. You advance on people 8-9 inches smaller and 70 lbs lighter than you, you have whats coming to you as far as I'm concerned.
@Thedoor29 @MTK If they don't get him signed before the season this will be a MAJOR distraction in this market. Nonis / Claude HAVE to know this and get something done. If he walks we are fucked.
@Thedoor29 @MTK Haha didn't think about that. Blessing in disguise I should think. Although the agent would be handling that. Not sure Kessel would be involved much.
@Komas Taberle @MTK In all seriousness I don't get the Kessel backlash. I'm glad he did what he did and I would have been ok with a nice crosscheck to the jibs as well. Kid gets so much ridiculous backlash about how he's soft etc. Throws some slashes back at Scott and then tilts. What do you want him to do?
@Komas Taberle @MTK I'm going hard after Kessel!
Excellent news re: Kessel contract. In my opinion that should priority A at the moment.
Heading to the Leafs season ticket dinner tonight. Should be interesting given the events of the last couple of days!
@Greg Fenton @leafsince93 @Burtonboy I wish we could get Franson at 2.8. I think you are completely accurate in that the deal will look closer to McDonagh's contract.

@getstanley1 @MTK Doubt that Bolland will make upwards of 4.2 million next year and if those are his demands, unless he has an absolutely freak year, the Leafs should walk.
5 months ago on <!--:en-->With the bulk of the storm over, where do the Leafs stand?<!--:-->
@getstanley1 Bozak is most certainly our top line center going into next year and will be until we are able to trade for or sign a true #1. That being said if Bozak does not go the other way in a trade he is signed long term at 2nd line center money.

Having this in our top 6 next year gets me excited. I don't care if the guys scores 10 goals next year. Different element to our top 6 is huge.
5 months ago on <!--:en-->Leafs sign Jonathan Bernier to 2-year, $5.8 million deal (2.9m AAV)<!--:-->
@ProfessorRance @MTK @Cameron19 Light down the middle and strong on the wings - not ideal - but you do what you can with what you are given. Top 4 wingers as Kessel, JVR, Lupul, Clarkson - yea I will take that...
@Cameron19 This will be the hardest part about repeating last year - our division got a TON better over the past couple of days (with the exception of Buffalo). Love the Bruins moves, and Ott made the playoffs without Karlsson and Spezza - adding Ryan was an absolute stunner.
@WendelBark Agree on this 1 hundred percent
