@Greg Fenton I personally can't figure out if it's a personnel or systems issue. I'm leaning towards blaming Carlyle for the whole shots for/against issue, but the execution and effort doesn't look to be their from the players for 60 mins each night. So, idk...

@theacs1966 @vji67 @Komas Taberle @Murph2417 @deedrag Hahahah ok. If you seriously don't think Subban would make the Leafs better than JVR does, then I'm not sure you and I watch the same sport.
Also, simply trading a team's best players for another team's best players isn't at all how trades work. If each team's best players were of equal value, then why don't the bottom dwellers of the league offer their "best" players for Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Weber, Suter, etc? Hell, why don't we offer Kadri, a 1st and a prospect for Stamkos? Is that what you think is a fair price? I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, just trying to follow your logic. I feel like I have to stress that I'm a die hard Leafs fan because I'm sure I sound like a lunatic saying Subban is better than most of our team, but that's the sad truth right now. Here are the PPG numbers for the last 3 seasons:JVR: 0.61Kadri: 0.73Subban: 0.64Yea...and Subban is a d-man. So, you can bet your bottom dollar it would take one of JVR or Kadri AND a Top 4 D (most likely Gardiner) AND a Top Prospect (most likely Rielly since he's our only elite prospect). Don't forget that for giving up 3 promising, yet not entirely proven pieces, we get one of the best d-man in the league. The ENTIRE league.

@theacs1966 @vji67 @Komas Taberle @Murph2417 @deedrag ...I was agreeing with you up until this...
Kadri/JVR are not top players at their position. Gards isn't either. Rielly is still a prospect. So if we don't trade Kessel (the only true TOP player at his position we have), who is the top player you're referring to? Top 6, Top 4 & high prospect is a pretty reasonable (if not low) price to pay for a 24 yr old #1 dman who just won a Norris.
edit: look at what Philly was willing to pay for an older Weber. Four 1st round picks! Four!
@theacs1966 @vji67 @Komas Taberle @Murph2417 @deedrag I mean, the JVR - Schenn deal is a good example too. Especially because both were struggling and not really proven. However, PK is a "proven" performer and the only Leaf who is remotely comparable is Kessel. So, in a hypothetical world where MTL wants to get rid of PK (cause they all started hanging out with Rob Ford and smoking crack), the conversation either starts with Kessel or with a combination of Kadri/JVR, Gards and Rielly +.

@theacs1966 @vji67 @Komas Taberle @Murph2417 @deedrag Totally agree. Unless Montreal was absolutely crazy about our younger players, which I highly doubt.
@Komas Taberle @Murph2417 @theacs1966 @deedrag Exactly. It's either one superstar for another, or a package of our really good, young players. Nobody will ever trade one of the best players in the league for two spare parts like Lupul/Clarkson/Franson. Honestly, I love our team and players, but us fans have to take off the blue-tinted glasses sometimes and be realistic about the actual value of our players.
@Murph2417 @vji67 @theacs1966 @deedrag A 24 yr old Norris winning #1 d-man won't get traded for anything less than a Top 6 forward, Top 4 dman, & a really highly regarded prospect. That's objectively exactly what JVR, Gardiner & Rielly are no matter how much we personally love them as Leafs fans.
@Murph2417 @theacs1966 @deedrag I don't like PK as a person (with all the slew footing and whatnot, he seems like an arrogant asshole), but he just won the Norris Trophy and is 24 years old.
How in god's name are Franson/Lupul or Clarkson/Franson even remotely close to being worth a 24 year old Norris Winner? A more realistic package would be Gardiner + Rielly +JVR & maybe more for PK.
@deedrag We capitalized on mistakes like good teams do (e.g. Boston game 1 against us in the playoffs last year). The Pens capitalized on horrible reffing like a bunch of whiny bitches.

@GeorgeCastanza @vji67 In the comments here.
Who are all these dick cheeses coming out and saying we're an embarrassment to the league and not even an NHL team? Never seen them post her before.
@loomx @vji67 No, but the refs can make MULTIPLE QUESTIONABLE CALLS TO PUT YOUR TEAM DOWN 1-2 MEN AND THEY CAN ALLOW GOALS THAT SHOULD BE CALLED OFF. WHEN THEY DO BOTH OF THOSE COMBINED, NO TEAM IN THE LEAGUE CAN "OUTPLAY" THEM. Now fuck off and go back to the hole you came from.
@loomx You're an idiot if you think any team in the league could have outplayed the refs tonight.
the refs wanted to give Pittsburgh the game and they fucking did. what a fucking shit show this is.
Love the article and analysis on the actual hit. Too many people kept flipping a shit about Kadri "following through" with the elbow. That's not the case at all. He made contact and after Backstrom's head bounces away from Kadri's forearm, he lifts his hands up for the "what-I-didn't-do-anything" reaction all players have when running into a goalie.
Anyway, it would be BS if they try to make an example out of Kadri for such incidental, albeit reckless, contact.

@Alec Brownscombe Yea, that was not pretty for him. I don't mind as long as it doesn't mess with his confidence moving forward. Don't want to get caught up in one bad game.

@DeclanK Also, 2 of our 4 losses were close games (within one goal) and 6 of our 9 wins were at a 2+ goal margin.
@Pent_House @vji67 No worries! I'll do some googling!
