@mr_hanie I agree with that...defence is played best with positionng...if you are in the right place, then it doesn;t matter how fast you can skate...you are there to make the play.
12 months ago on Deadline Day Recap: Nope, nothing was doing in Leafland
@djamon @Alec Brownscombe Which is what he is doing, trying too ahrd and not being himself!!!
@Bobsyouruncle I'm with you Brother!!!!
@Reversethecurse13 @Pent_House I agree there....that is a problem on this team...it is ahrde to play tough physical hockey when there is no one that can fight well...Gleason shouldn't be fighting with his concussion earlier this year.
@Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs @djamon They were just sending paperwork that made them both available to the Marlies for the playoffs...that's all.
@4evrblue @Burtonboy Come on guys, really...he played Kadri more than Wilson...Gardiner and Rielly he has played this year, despite their weaknesses...he has given guys chances, Holland on the first line even...it's not like he is totally oppossed to giving these kids time, but they ahve to earn it.
@Alec Brownscombe @loomx Hey Alec, no one said that they were NOT contenders, Nonis said NOT Favourites for the Cup...as we all have seen, when a team comes together anything can happen in the playoffs and we are going to be in them.
@Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs So you would tear your house down and sell the bricks, just to fix the leaking foundation of your house then eh? Makes total frigging sense to me!!!
@loomx @RickC1983 For what???? His scoring means more to the club right now as the kids mature into scorers...not a draft pick tht matures five years from now or more.
@Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs Don't we already ahve two stars and the possibility of two more becoming stars? Kessel And Van Reimsdyk...then your pick of Kadri, Rielly and Gardiner...not too mention Berneir and Reimer...take a ten pound vailium man and relax, this team has assets already!!!
12 months ago on NHL Trade Deadline Day: Is there anything doing in Leafland?
@loomx @ProfessorRance Franson was even +/- in the playoffs with six points, Gardiner was -3 with 5 points, Gunnarson was -7 with 1 point and Phaneuf was -6 with 3 points...so tell me how weak Franson and Gardiner were...both Franson and Gardiner played incredibly well...and they have a chance to play that way again this year in the playoffs.
@Loric76 @PEIleafnation Just a one year deal though...he's a UFA in the summer.
@Loric76 @Captain Morgan You just have to get lucky bud!!!
@Loric76 Moron for Moron...NOBODY wins that trade!!!!
I don't feel like we did something wrong today...anytime a team contacts Nonis, they want one of the young kids...it's like giving up your hot young wife for an old broken down one, with a chance to pick out a Mistress at a party, but there is 75 picks ahead of you, so you know she'll probably end up ugly too...all you gain is more time to sleep and watch hockey then!!
@Belfour20 That's a good point!
@rustynail @CanuckUKinToronto @Yaknowwhat I think it will go back up with a bit better economic numbers, just as it hs today with better employment numbers...the US economy is not all that great right now either.

@Greg Fenton @Leafs rule @mcloki It's not always the goalies fault though, especially if your team isn't putting the puck in the net...hopefully the coaches do put more of an emphasis on it this year in practices though.
1 year, 5 months ago on Toronto Maple Leafs’ Cody Franson Signs 1 Year Deal
@Mind Bomb @Captain Morgan @reenergized Yep...and Randy told him to put some Absorbine Junior on it and get back out there!!! LOL
@Mind Bomb @reenergized Didn't Kessel cut himself shaving and had to miss Carlyle's bag skates???
@Alec Brownscombe @Captain Morgan @Burtonboy The maximum that can be offerred by another team is 7 years, so if you wanna go that route then we match it.
@Mind Bomb @Captain Morgan He already makes 6.5 a year, so just a moderate increase really.
@Burtonboy @Captain Morgan @Alec Brownscombe A long term deal is 5-8 years....so it's not like they are insulting him.
@Alec Brownscombe @Captain Morgan Even if you make it 8.5, it won't hurt us....I still think that five years is in favour of both parties.
Let's see now...Leafs have 40 Million next year to sign players...Phaneuf at 7M for five years, Kessel at 7M for five years....Kulemin at 3M for 3 years...Bolland at 3.5 for 3 years and Franson at 4.5 for 5 years...that leaves 15M to sign Reimer, Ranger, Gardiner, Fraser, McClement and Mason....even more if we get rid of Liles contract (which I'm sure we will)....that's not so bad at all.
@GeorgeCastanza @Captain Morgan @Pent_House Yep...I think that we are better off not doing that sort of thing at this time!! LOL
1 year, 5 months ago on Fight Night in Toronto: Preseason Post Game #5 – Leafs 5 vs. Sabres 3
@Pent_House Yeah, Kadri says that he was going and Lupul grabbed him and it was too late to stop Clarkson.
@totalimmortal000 He did swing at him, but Kessel got his gloves up and are you going to wait to see if a man that big hits you first??? I SAY NOT!!!!
I could not believe the events of last night....Scott is an amazing idiot and his coach must be three times stupider than that...they have now marked themselves for every team in the league to watch them and play goon hockey against...their few skilled players are now marked with huge targets....really, really not bright!!!
Also, to give Kessel a major penalty for attempting to injure is ridiculous...slashing at someones shin pads and skates in order to saveyourself from being hurt is preservation, not initiating an attempt to hurt someone else....poor officiating, poor coaching and poor decisions all around, including Clarkson, where his ehart was in the right place, but he was not even needed in that fray!!!
@Jantz Too many guys are not the same after concussions...it is a devastating injury for some people and they can't shake that feeling of peril after it...I like Liles and agree with everybody that he is a classy and team orientated man.I just don't know fi this is the place for him right now...expecially at the numbers he is making. Having said that though, I'm glad Nonis didn;t buy him out and I hope we can find a team that he will enjoy playing for and being on to continue his career.

@MollySweats @Burtonboy @rustynail No way we trade Kuli...he is a beast in board play and great defensively...will pop more goals this year I do think too. We need him....not so much Liles and his salary (nothing against him), but we have others to take his spot, where as not much to replace in the way of Kulemin.
@dlb eh @rustynail While he is big and lanky, he is not the most graceful skater and being able to stop, turn and make quick cuts, as well as skate backwards are prerequisites for a good penalty killer....heart and attitude are great, some physical aspects are there, but the mobility is the issue.
1 year, 5 months ago on Morning Mashup: Kadri, Hodgson on opposite sides of RFA spectrum
@TheCanucksnaphook @dlb eh Thank you again!! Tehy do have some NHL experience though and would be bonafide all ups, correct?
@rustynail I just got this....are you serious? Is he serious???? Did we do drug testing on the coaches?????
@TheCanucksnaphook @Jmessih They were on two differnt rinks at the same time too though, right?

Thanks for this Phook!!!!
@.JVR. @Captain Morgan Let's hope so...get it done and get the big boy into camp....I truly grew to like him last year and I think he'll only get better as he goes forward.
1 year, 5 months ago on Live Video: Leafs Media Day
@rickpearce76 @.JVR. @Burtonboy Very good point...I'm sure there is insurance in the PTO agreement, but probably not nearly as much as a contract would be.
@.JVR. @Captain Morgan They might have had their lines in the water for other fish that they couldn't land...at least they know what they are getting with Cleary.
@.JVR. @Captain Morgan No, that's what I think he wanted, a four year deal at 4.5M...instead the Leafs offered two at less money, probably in around 2.5M per year....I think that they will need to make a move in order to get under the cap anyway you look at it.
@.JVR. @Burtonboy Don't forget that he has played with detroit for the last seven or eight years too...they might have just wanted to wait and see what was what before inviting him back.
@.JVR. I'm sure the four eyar deal was at about 4.5-5 million....I think that he'll stelle for the same as Gunnarsson right now on a one year deal of 3.15M. I don't like the Gunnarsson deal and i think we overpaid there for someone who is just adequate.
@Black_Hawk Yes he did at 3.15M per year.
@Great Dane Like I said earlier, Franson is still hitting his potential, so there is no way that you let him walk...he has size, offensive ability and can get nasty...we are talking about a big man who could end getting 60 points in a year from the point and not being a defensive liability...they are very hard to come by!!!
@Burtonboy @Alec Brownscombe Yes, I couldn't open that blog....what did he say?
@Leafs rule @Captain Morgan @ShotgunCharlie @Burtonboy I like that idea...I don't think the Canes are going to be that good either.
@Black_Hawk We could get a bit, but not as much as we could get once Franson reaches his true potential and that is on the verge of coming...besides, there is nothing that we need from carolina other than draft picks and they aren't going to help us right now.
@wendelsway1 @Captain Morgan @Xxxxxnew That's it....getting out of here, grabbing some brews and putting on the Stones....Sympathy for the Devil!!!!
