He was the first GM we've ever had who didn't trade a first round draft pick

Goats are honourable animals. They eat anything and can survive just about everywhere.

I think its silly and kind of embarrassing for all involved including the sport. The opponents have cheated but instead of being punished get rewarded with a fluke.

Those goals on delayed penalties should be disallowed, imo.
Shanahan runs a tight ship

There was a glowing review of Gauthier over at PPP. Apparently he's really improved his skating and his offence has come around.
lol. I don't think he wanted to be a Leafs that badly. He threatened to head to FA in 2012 and BB had to make him a large offer at the deadline.

Yes, I wonder if Shanahan will ice a team of journeymen next year and hide the prospects.
Fresh air is for losers!
When I watched, the video was divided into three parts. One is where they play "Freddy the Goat"
@Jay31 @Burtonboy @BoneChompski
With a personality like that, he must be an NHL star. Must. Be.
@Cameron19 @Jay31 @Axle_Goalie
I'm pretty excited about Hanifin but only through what I read. Calgary is built on four puck-moving d-men. Hanfin would give us three and a legit potential 1D.

There are lots of smart hockey pick available that would not cost us a pick
@leafmealone @BoneChompski @Jay31
I'm really not crazy about the idea of trading draft picks for management personnel.
Mirtle posted 21st is the best the Leafs can do. But he catchphrased "to the best of my knowledge" haha.
Its become confusing because what is on NHL.com is confusing. But Wikipedia has it the same as last year and last year the final four picked last.
I am now leaning towards same as last year. But even Mirtle seems a bit uncertain.
@zoidbergman @vinoa @Dangle_My_Berries
You tell Mirtle. This is also a rule change from last year. And I don't remember any announcements regarding a rule change.

This was likely posted before but I hadn't read it:
I'll be satisfied if Nashville gets eliminated by Chicago. The rest is gravy, baby!
It depends on the interpretation of the rule. "Division winner" -- is that in the playoffs or in the regular season? If its playoffs then nothing has changed since last year and the Leafs can pick 21st contingent on how teams finish.
We need all the regular-season division winners eliminated before the final four: Montreal, St. Louis, NYR and Anaheim. And of course, Nashville itself.
I like the Goat-Tracker
I'd be satisfied with 6th pick overall for Kessel but if we can get more go for it.
I think he's just coming into his own and management will want to see how far he develops.

Its like a cat. they love you but if you disappear and someone else (like say an ex-girlfriend) starts feeding them.... well... its easy to love the one who feeds.
Huberdeau led Florida in scoring. He was 2nd in forward ice time behind Barkov.
Coutourier is a center? Well hands down, I'd prefer him. Leafs should focus on d-men and centers.
@ProfessorRance @dlbu dlbu E
All the more reason he'd actually be available. They won't part with their best young players. These guys aren't prospects they are NHL'ers.
He's great but I can't imagine they'd let him go
@dlbu dlbu E
Florida said they won't trade their 'young guns' however you gotta give to receive. Huberdeau seems more likely to me than Barkov.
@dlbu dlbu E
Wingers are the easiest position to fill. Decent ones abound and sometimes elite ones become available via trade at a reasonable price.
I believe players not coming to the Leafs is more about the business of hockey than anything else. Stamkos, Tavares and now McDavid would cost a fortune in assets to trade for. So that's not happening. And the teams sign these players to big $$$ long before they enter free agency. A player is always one hit away from an end to their career. So the players take the money as soon as its offered. Doesn't leave much room for romantic homecomings :(
Chicago was nowhere after years of rebuilding... then they got Toews and Kane back-to-back... they were off to the races. It might not take six years.
Any prospect compared to Neidermeyer is OK by me.
I still believe you build teams from the net out.
I couldn't help myself :)
@TorontoMapleLeafs @MaxwellHowe @Mitch_S2
I tend to believe Cox: Leafs will take Strome or Hanifin.
This time is different! Hunter will have the inside track on Marner. If the Leafs pick Marner, then presumably its because they think (know?) he's special.
Hanifin is flying under the media radar.
More than half of prospects are listed as centers then become wingers by the time they enter the NHL. Kessel was listed as a center (and still is on NHL.com I believe).
Don't be fooled.
Marner is a winger
1C needs to be drafted but they can be found outside of the top 5, too. Bergeron, Krejci, Giroux, Getzlaf, Kopitar

Seems clear that by this interpretation that Nashville can only move down in the standings (up in order of draft selection) by ONE spot conditional on a team below them in point totals (not a division winner although this is a moot point) winning the Cup.
So 25th or 24th. An enterprising individual might want to ask Bob McKenzie, James Mirtle or Kevin McGran to get to the bottom of this.
Yeah, I've given up on answering this question.
It depends on whether the rules have changed since last year. NHL.com seems to suggest the rules have changed since last year. But I don't recall any rule change announcements.
It's so much easier to give in than to keep fighting...

Lupul told a story about how he wanted to watch NFL football on the coming Sunday. The Leafs lost (might have been that embarrassing Buffalo game) so badly he chose to stay in and watch it on TV.
Not being heckled when you buy groceries is a perk.

"Don't go away mad; just go away"
I wanted to key in on "winger"
