no. I'd trade Kessel.

The best goalies are consistently good.
Bernier has had an off-year but I don't see why that means we should trade him. I doubt he has particularly high trade value anyway.

If Philadelphia traded for a soft-winger like Kessel, the fans might riot

At this point, Kessel is a disgrace to the uniform. I've never seen a Leafs team as bad as this one and the problem starts at the top.

The coach kept hinting to the Nashville incident when two players went out partying during the playoffs.

Many members of the media are respectful.
Girls are nothing but trouble

and that's why Kadri is so immature. To do this in a contract year is extra stupid: stupid on stupid.
He could but he has to do it. And like the post above, he has to prove he's been mal-treated. But I don't think he is.
This is nothing too exceptional, imo. A 24-year-old out late, probably partying... every NHL'er does it. But very few miss practice, which annoys not ony mgt but also teammates. That said, this whole thing can blow over IF Kadri cuts out the stupid going forward.
as per the post above, this has gone on a long time.
Frankly I don't need to know all the dirty gossip - the team needs to be run as a team. If Kadri has a problem with his treatment he can file a grievance with the NHLPA. Until then, his silence I take as an admission of guilt.
I have no reason to think anything other than Kadri has earned this treatment.
MLSE has to end the culture of entitlement. Kadri's suspension is a decent effert in that regard.

Yeah I remember a lot of hatred for Sundin among a loud minority of fans.

If the Bell, Rogers and T wanted, they could let Shanahan call all hockey operations and run the team like a subsidiary. That's what I meant by insulation. Right now, he doesn't have that.
Its all part of my charm.
That could derail everything. I hope they are smart enough to insulate Shanahan and the managing of the team.
I think Shanahan is a shrewd political operator, even if he's short on experience. That could only help.
Yeah for sure. It would be totally different.
Instead of arguing the point, you are criticizing the source. Have you taken an university course on logic or do you hone it on blog sites solely?
You're missing the point. If BB doesn't get Phil, Leafs would be worse from 2011-2015 and we might have some decent star players. Instead we are talking about tradnig Phil and starting to draft star players for the next 5-8 years.
He happens to be right in this case because I agree. BB tried to take a shortcut.
lol. How's Kessel worked out? What have we won? Is Boston missing him?
Without Kessel we are worse and drafting higher. Maybe we actually have some some decent star talent.
As Don Cherry said "he tried to be cute".
@Anthony Petrielli @Burn_the_Loov_Boats
I've seen this before -- the dumbest analogy ever. Draft picks are lottery tickets that can be anything (including nothing). What we have isn't working. So trading away flawed players like Kessel make sense, even if we can't replace them in the short-run.
We needed 18 year olds. And lots of draft picks, too. Sortof exactly what we need now.
I agree 100%. I think it was a very astute political maneuver.
It didn't have to turn out this way, but it did. And BB's lack of foresight cost us. Fair critique? Fair has nothing to do with it.
He was supposed to build from the ground up while being competitive in the short-run. Bringing in Kessel favoured the short-term plan at the expense of the long-term (and more important) plan.
This is the most overrated angle to the Leafs' woes. In Rome, soccer fans have physically assaulted players who played half as bad as our players have. In Leafsland, we defend our players from the media even though they are proven losers who talk about trying yet don't. To some fans, talking about trying seems to be enough.
Regarding patience and a rebuild, Shanahan will be allowed to do this so long as he doesn't deviate from his plan. BB deviated from the plan by trading for Kessel and that ruined the timetable for success and worse, it ruined his credibility.
Furthermore, it is even more obvious now than when BB took over that the only way to acquire talent is through the draft.
The Leafs 'tried' to win this year and the ratings suck. What have they got to lose by trying a proven, successful strategy?
Why do you think that?
Kadri created this fracas with his irresponsible behaviour. Best center on a terrible, terrible team means little to me.
And to top off a player's cry-baby week, Kadri goes all junior-high. He's getting calls to wake up - isn't that unusual for a 24-year-old man? hmmmmmmm I wonder why he couldn't get up... and the night after one of the team's worst performances ever when you know the coach is unhappy and the media is baying for blood.
I'm with the coach 100%.

Smart enough not to buy the Kadri BS hook, line n sinker
I don't care about media fracas. This team is awful and deserves the negative attention.
Bozak over Kadri is irrelevant given its a dead season.
Best center on the team? Newsflash: this team sucks.
There's more to this than sleeping in. Horachek had his original media interview nixed by MLSE media relations.
@RememberSalming @leafmealone @Burn_the_Loov_Boats
Human? He's the only one on the team making this mistake. If Kadri wasn't a tool, he would be up on time like everybody else. Especially in a contract year, this guy is dumb as sh9t.
Have you not beein watching games?
Holy sense of entitlement! If you believe Kadri "just slept in" you're being naive. He's a tool.

I've never seen anything quite like it
I actually agree with Healy about Kessel.
and this is partly why RW is wrong. The team is much much better than it was when he took over in 08-09'
3 weeks ago on Ron Wilson: “Leafs Rebuild will take 7 or 8 years”
You assume winning a cup is his top priority. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I assume nothing.
Yeah, is it too much to ask for a modicum of gratitude for the $20m or whatever he made
haha, that didn't work out too well for BB.
We need a mgt group that isn't distracted by the media. Let the players take the brunt of the media. They're the ones who refuse to play hockey properly.
The guy is parlaying himself into fame and a probable radio/TV job. Remember when we all tied a can to his ass and kicked him out? Now he's after some revenge (and personal profit).
He's done that already. I'll wait and see what he chooses.
Why are people listening to RW? This guy has so many reasons to hate the Leafs its a joke.
and this time he's insured: win/win
